Bitahai

碧塔海

The highest lake in Yunnan Province. In Tibetan, it means "a lake covered with oak trees", which means that the oak trees along the lake are densely packed like green felt.
According to legend, a goddess accidentally dropped her mirror while dressing, and the broken mirror formed many plateau lakes. Bita Lake is one of the most beautiful lenses inlaid with emeralds.
The unique sight of "drunk fish by cuckoo" can be seen from June to July every year. The writer Feng Mu once described this scene. It is said that the old bear in the forest will also take advantage of the moonlight to catch the drunk fish.
There is also a plank road along the Bitahai Lake. You can walk along the plank road to the lakeside pier. There are cruise ships in the lake, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery around the lake.

Bitahai Nature Reserve is located in the east of Zhongdian County in the northwest of Yunnan Province, 25 kilometers away from the county seat. The reserve is centered on Bitahai, with a total area of 840 square kilometers. Bitahai is about 3 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide. In Tibetan, Bitahai is called "Bita Decuo". "Bita" means cow wool blanket, "De" means magic, and "Cuo" means sea. Bitahai is known as the pearl of the plateau. The lake surface is 3,538 meters above sea level. It is the highest lake in Yunnan Province. It was once a sunken area flooded by water in history. In the Quaternary period, the Tibetan Plateau was strongly uplifted to form its current plateau appearance.

The water of Bita Lake is clean and clear. There is a meadow on the shore in front of us. Above it, a little further away, are high mountains with snow-capped peaks. This scene makes me feel that this is not like China, but like the Swiss scenery promotional photos I have seen on the Internet. If the weather is clear, it will definitely be more beautiful.

The essence of Shangri-La is in Placuo, and the essence of Placuo is in Bitahai. It feels great to walk along the plank road along the lake.

The scenery is relatively monotonous, similar to the scenery of Dujuan Lake in Arxan National Forest Park, except that you can walk along the repaired wooden plank road around the lake for 3 kilometers. There are many small squirrels along the way that are no longer afraid of people, attracting many tourists to stop and feed them. There are docks at several tourist evacuation sites in Bitahai, providing the opportunity to pay to take a boat instead of hiking.

"Bita" in Tibetan means a place with oak trees. Bitahai can also be translated as a quiet lake. From the top of the mountain where we are, follow the wooden plank road to the foot of the mountain, and you will reach Bitahai. Stepping on the plank road and going down, you will enter a primitive pine forest. The forest is extremely quiet and the scenery is pleasant. After walking for about 40 minutes, the road becomes flat and you can see a meadow in the distance. At the end of the meadow is Bitahai, the lake water is green and beautiful. Compared with Napahai yesterday, this place looks more graceful and gorgeous against the backdrop of the pine forest, but I love the wild beauty of Napahai more. The tranquility is accompanied by a sense of mystery, perhaps because it is not the most beautiful season for Bitahai now. It is said that in June and July every year, when the azalea flowers bloom, people can see the spectacle of "drunk fish by azalea" in Bitahai. The leaves of azalea contain a slight poison. When they fall on the water and are swallowed by swimming fish, the fish float up as if they are drunk. The white belly is set against the petals, which should be a different artistic conception. Although Bitahai is located at the foot of the mountain, its actual altitude is 3,538 meters, making it the highest lake in Yunnan Province.

Bitahai is part of Pudacuo National Park, located in the east of Zhongdian County in the northwest of Yunnan Province, 25 kilometers away from the county seat.

"Bita" in Tibetan means a place with oak trees in clusters, and also means a tranquil sea.

The lake is surrounded by ancient pines and oaks, blocking out the sun. Bitahai is surrounded by dark green mountains, like an emerald inlaid in the mountains.

Due to the absence of any pollution, the fish resources in Bitahai are relatively well preserved. One of the fish actually has three lips! This is the "Bita heavy-lipped fish" named by Chinese biologists. It is a species left over from the Quaternary glacial period and has a history of 2.5 million years.

In May, when azaleas are in full bloom, petals of azaleas on the shore of Bita Lake fall into the water, attracting fish. After the fish swallow the petals, they become drunk and float on the water, forming a unique landscape on the lake. The famous writer Feng Mu once described this scene, and since then, the landscape of "Azalea Drunk Fish" in Bita Lake has become famous all over the world.

Bita Lake is the last scenic spot of Pudacuo. There is a plank road about 4 kilometers long. Young people can choose to hike. In addition, if you don’t want to walk, you can walk about 500 meters on the plank road, take a boat directly to the end of the plank road, and walk about 500 meters to the end.

In addition, Bitahai is famous for its rhododendron trees all over the mountains, but we went at the wrong time, so we couldn’t see them~

At the last stop, when we walked to the boat station, my companions chose to take the boat. I originally planned to sit for a while and then take the tour bus to the destination. Later, I remembered what the tour guide said.

In fact, the whole walk was really okay. It wasn’t very tiring and we had enough time.

There is a plank road along the lakeside of Bitahai Lake. You can walk along the plank road to the lakeside dock. There are cruise ships in the lake, and you can tour the beautiful scenery around the lake. However, the Bitahai and Militang scenic areas of Pudacuo Park have been closed since April 2017, and you can only take a tour bus to see them from a distance. I was very glad that they were still open when I went there.

By Carmen |

The longest tour time is about 2 to 3 hours. Since we spent a long time in Shudu Lake, the driver suggested that we take the bus to the main station and then go back to tour a short distance.

By cj4682 |

I went there in 2006. I was disappointed that the trail was closed this time. The scenery was really great. I was a little out of breath after walking 4.2 kilometers, but there were countless beautiful views. I hope friends who go there will ask in advance.

Bitahai and Shudu Lake are two beautiful freshwater lakes known as the pearls of the plateau.

By Qinling 007 |

It should be a very beautiful place, but I couldn't see it carefully. Private cars are not allowed to enter the scenic area. You can only take a sightseeing bus to stop at several fixed points. Tourists are allowed to walk back at the last point by themselves. I missed the places worth stopping to take pictures. The scenic area is not detailed enough. If you don't walk, you can take a sightseeing bus for more than an hour to see it.

Bita Lake is famous for its rhododendron trees that cover the mountains. In May and June, when the rhododendrons bloom, the petals fall into the lake. When fish eat the slightly poisonous petals, they will be temporarily anesthetized and float to the surface with their stomachs turned upside down. This interesting phenomenon is called "drunk fish due to rhododendrons". It is said that at this time, old bears in the mountains will also take advantage of the night to catch the drunk fish, which is the legendary "old bear catching fish".

In April, there are neither blooming flowers nor rare animals in Pudacuo. All that is left are the greedy little squirrels.

The pine nuts I brought with me finally came in handy. There were few tourists in Pudacuo during this season, and even fewer people chose to hike on this 4.7km section of Bitahai.

So we started to "play" with the squirrels without restraint.

The "food" in Pudacuo must be very good. These little guys are all plump and round from eating so much, and they are much more skillful than me in peeling pine nuts.

At first, they were still alert. Every time they took a pine nut from us, they would run away, turn their backs and eat it, then come back to get it. Later, perhaps because they saw that we didn't hurt them, or perhaps because they thought it was troublesome to run back and forth, they would just stay in our hands and bodies until they were full.

I went there in winter, and the ground was covered with dead grass, which looked yellow.

By Wang Dada |

Because a national protected animal was discovered, Bitahai Lake was closed and we could only look at it from afar from the observation deck. The viewing time was only about 10 minutes, which was not very interesting.

I went to Pudacuo in June. I didn’t catch the rhododendrons all over the mountain, but the green grass and blue sky were beautiful.

The third stop of Pudacuo National Park: Bitahai, which is also the last stop of Pudacuo Scenic Area, is about 4.5 kilometers. The tour time is about 1-2 hours. This section is mainly plateau lakes, high and cold numbers, and the original ecological environment is well preserved. Rhododendrons are everywhere, and squirrels and colorful birds can be seen everywhere. It is so beautiful

Bitahai is located in Pudacuo Forest Park. It is a natural lake with clear water and beautiful scenery.

By There is no such thing |

The most beautiful impression of Shangri-La is staying at Bita Lake in Pudacuo National Park. Pudacuo in Tibetan means to save all living beings and reach the lake on the other side of the sea of suffering. There are mirror-like alpine lakes, beautiful pastures with abundant grass, wetlands with blooming flowers, primitive forests where birds and beasts often appear, and Shudu Lake and Bita Lake, known as the pearls of the plateau. Stepping onto the wooden plank road of Bita Lake, the layers of mist in the forest, the rays of light from the sky and the sparkling waves on the lake complement each other, making the beauty hazy and distant. The trees beside the plank road grow in various shapes, some sink into the water, some stand in the middle of the plank road, and some extend a branch horizontally, and you have to bend down to pass through. The trees are full of "tree beards", which are called Usnea, a white parasitic fungus and a biological phenomenon unique to Pudacuo. As we walked, the clouds and fog cleared, the sun came out, the wild ducks in the water grass poked their heads out from time to time, and the little squirrels in the forest also came out, holding a pine cone and savoring it with relish, as if no one was around. At the end of Bita Lake, a stream brought together the trickling water, and on both sides of the stream spread a large meadow, on which a group of horses were leisurely eating grass, and a little horse was nestled beside its mother. Standing on the meadow and looking back at Bita Lake, Bita Lake was connected to the green meadow, like a piece of sapphire jade lying quietly in the embrace of the mountains, and the colorful mountains and forests around it dressed Bita Lake in gorgeous clothes.

With an altitude of 3,538 meters, Bita Lake is called "Bita Decuo" in Tibetan. "Bita" means cow-hair blanket, "De" means demon, and "Cuo" means sea.

By RT. |

The third and last stop of Pudacuo Park. The sea here is very clear and blue. In the end, due to time constraints, we took a boat here. The scenery felt better than walking beside it. In the end, there was also a large grassland full of yaks. The scenery was great!

By Gabriel's Rain |

Maybe it's due to the season, the scenery is not that attractive

By Sakuraishita |

This is the prototype of "Lost Horizon". There is no artificial transformation here, and the mountains are covered with virgin forests.

Bitahai is part of the Pudacuo Scenic Area and is also the most spectacular one. Take the scenic sightseeing bus from the entrance of Pudacuo Park, and the last stop is Bitahai. There is a 4.2-kilometer-long sightseeing plank road here. It is very exciting to hike at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters. If you don't want to hike, you can also take a bus directly to the entrance of the scenic area, but you will miss the beautiful scenery along the way.

Bita Lake is the highest lake in Yunnan Province. According to legend, a goddess accidentally dropped her mirror while dressing up, and the broken mirror formed many plateau lakes. Bita Lake is one of the most beautiful mirrors inlaid with emeralds.

In winter, part of the lake is frozen, and the trees by the lake appear yellow and green, which is very beautiful. The entire hike took 1 hour and 10 minutes.

By Vicky |

The cutest thing is the little squirrel that is not afraid of people. It comes down to eat when you feed it. The photos don’t look that good due to the bad weather.

By Giant vetch in the reed marsh |

The water of Bita Lake is much clearer than that of Shudu Lake. It is clear, green and beautiful! There is a rare fish called "Bita Heavy Lip Fish" left over from the Quaternary Glacial Period in Bita Lake, which has a history of 2.5 million years. Every May, the azaleas bloom by the lake, and the petals blow down the lake. The fish will jump to the surface of the water to eat the petals. Because the azalea petals are poisonous, the fish will float on the water after eating them. Everyone thinks they are dead, but they are not. After a while, they will wake up. This is the "Azalea Drunk Fish" marked by the lake. When the bears in the forest see these fish floating, they will jump out to eat the fish. This wonder also has a name, but I forgot the name!

By edge |

Plateau lakes, meadows, herds of cattle, horses, sheep, cuckoos and drunken fish, a place without any pollution, mysterious and sacred, dare not blaspheme. Here, no matter how you frame it, it is a natural beauty. This is also the only place in my photos that I didn't process...

Everyone says that Pudacuo is the classic of Shangri-La and Bitahai is the classic of Pudacuo.

Therefore, it must be recommended.

In Pudacuo, it seems like returning to the primitive, the feeling is very quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. It is worth a visit

By “I” June |

Bitahai and Shudu Lake are both part of Pudacuo National Park, but you still have to choose the right time to go, otherwise the scenery will be greatly discounted. May and June are a window period, when the rhododendrons on the shore are in full bloom, which is beautiful!

The third stop of Pudacuo is Bitahai, which is the highest lake in Yunnan. The 4.4-kilometer plank road must be walked anyway (in fact, walking on the wooden plank road is not tiring at all). You can't see drunken fish along the way, but the scenery is intoxicating.

By Dreamed of a bowl of small moon |

Bita Lake is 4 kilometers long, and you can take a boat for 3 kilometers. However, if you have enough time and energy, it is not recommended to take a boat. After all, you can enjoy more of the unique scenery of Bita Lake by walking.

Try to walk as much as possible in Pudacuo Park. I was traveling with a tour group and had to be at the meeting place at a specified time, so I chose to take a boat. The tour guide said that every wild vegetable in the park grows naturally.

Pudacuo National Park mainly consists of three scenic spots: Shudu Lake, Bita Lake and Militang Subalpine Pasture. Bita Lake is the highest lake in Yunnan Province. The lake is surrounded by gorgeous rhododendrons, birds are singing and flowers are blooming by the lake, and fish are swimming on the shallow shore. Looking out from the rhododendron sea, on the vast meadow, herds of cattle and sheep are leisurely wandering on the meadow dotted with flowers, and the lake and grassland complement each other.

Bitahaisu is known as the Pearl of the Plateau. The first feeling when arriving here is that it is super beautiful (please forgive my lack of words). It is a very quiet, primitive and elegant place with especially fresh air. The trees here are covered with "beards". It is said that this is a sign of highly pure air. The longer and more beards represent the higher purity of the air here. There is also a sea of rhododendrons, which look completely different from those in places with low altitudes. They are pink and purple, and the plants are relatively tall. I looked at them for a long time and didn't know what they were. Later, I asked the tour guide and found out that they were plateau rhododendrons, which have a unique style. I came here in midsummer, so I still wore two long-sleeved shirts because the sea waves here are relatively high, so the temperature will not be very high in midsummer. I suggest that you bring a coat, first to keep out the cold, and second to protect against the sun. For friends who love beauty, a shawl is also a good choice, and it should be a slightly thicker one. In addition, the tickets for most scenic spots in Yunnan Province are made into postcards, which are of great commemorative value. I suggest that you collect them or send them to relatives and friends!

The ticket price of 258 yuan for Pudacuo includes 120 yuan of transportation fee. In the park, you must take the park's bus. You are not allowed to get off the bus and enter the woods at will. The journey by bus is divided into three sections, which seems to be more than 60 kilometers. There are two sections of wooden plank roads at the parking spots, with a total length of about 8 kilometers, which is enough for you to get close to nature. We played in this natural oxygen bar for a full 7 hours. Everyone once again showed their "crazy" potential. We hurried out in the second half. After playing for 7 hours, we were still not satisfied with just a park. This shows the magic of Pudacuo.

Bitahai is a lake in Pudacuo Park in Shangri-La. The name alone sounds beautiful. Bitahai is about 3 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide. Bitahai is known as the pearl of the plateau. The lake surface is 3,538 meters above sea level. It is the highest lake in Yunnan Province. It was once a sunken area flooded by water in history. In the Quaternary period, it was strongly uplifted with the Tibetan Plateau to form the current plateau appearance. Because of the fear of altitude sickness, I went there in a group in mid-October. The ticket for Pudacuo is 258, which includes the scenic area battery car. You can choose to take the battery car in the park, take a boat (50/person) or hike around the lake. It happened to be foggy when I went there, and the scenery was amazing. There are many squirrels on the plank road that are not afraid of people. It is said that they love Defu chocolate the most. It takes physical strength to circle the lake. The altitude is high. If you are worried about lack of oxygen, you can buy oxygen cylinders (15-20) outside the scenic area and bring them in. The small bottle in the scenic area costs 60. You can prepare some food because there is no place to buy food on the way. The scenery of Bitahai is different in different sections, including forest plants, meadows, and lakes. The overall value is very beautiful, and the scenery is different in each season.

For those who love to travel, it is strongly recommended to slow down and don't miss the scenery along the way~

The hiking time here is about two hours. Before coming in, you should prepare sunscreen and heatstroke prevention items (hats and sunscreen) in advance, and bring more water. The water in the scenic area is five yuan a bottle. You must drink a lot of water for a long hike.

Many people ran out of energy after more than an hour of hiking at the previous scenic spot. The altitude here is more than 3,000 square meters. If you come to this place for the first time, it is not recommended to walk fast or run, as it is easy to get altitude sickness. I saw a child about five or six years old on the road, vomiting all the time. The altitude sickness is very strong~

I didn't want to go there at first, but after I went there I realized it was really worth it.

The water is very clear and you can see underwater plants up close, just like in Lashi Lake.
