Shangri-La Grand Canyon

香格里拉大峡谷

The Balagzong Shangri-La Grand Canyon Scenic Area is located at the junction of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet provinces. It is within the Hongshan Scenic Area of the "Three Parallel Rivers" Scenic Area and is the core scenic area of the Hongshan Scenic Area. It is said that the Blue Moon Canyon described in "Lost Horizon" is here.
Formerly known as the "Birang Canyon," the Shangri-La Grand Canyon now comprises two scenic areas: the Nixi Baragezong Canyon and the Geza Birong Canyon. Rock paintings dot the cliffs on either side of the canyon, mysterious symbols left by the local inhabitants that remain undeciphered. Once a daunting prospect, the Grand Canyon is now accessible through the scenic area's plank roads, where visitors can gaze at the rushing river and the green waves lapping against the shore, experience rafting through the canyon, and visit pristine ancient Tibetan villages.

Recommended itinerary for Shangri-La Grand Canyon tours

1-Day Itinerary — Balagezong (Shangri-La Grand Canyon) One-Day Explorer

Short and focused: spend a full day exploring the dramatic Balagezong (Shangri-La Grand Canyon) including the main viewpoints, glass skywalks and a quick stop at nearby Nixi pottery if time allows.

  • Meet / Depart: Gather at Dukezong Ancient Town north gate. Tourism shuttle buses depart Dukezong in the morning (typically 8:30–9:00 depending on season) and take ~1.5–2 hours one-way to Balagezong; round-trip shuttle fare from Dukezong is commonly around ¥60.
  • At Balagezong: Use the scenic-area shuttle buses to reach viewpoints (site shuttle included in ticket). Allow 4–5 hours to walk/view the glass skywalks, echo wall, Tibetan cultural village and short boardwalks inside the reserve.
  • Optional afternoon: Return bus to Dukezong (~1.5–2 hr). If you have time and energy, take a taxi to Nixi Pottery Village (≈ 30–60 min by road depending on route / taxi availability).

Accommodation / Food: Return to Shangri-La (Dukezong). Eat Tibetan noodles, yak hotpot or momo in a guesthouse or local restaurant. Stay in a Tibetan-style guesthouse in Dukezong Old Town for atmosphere.

Souvenirs: Balagezong: postcards, small canyon keychains; Nixi Pottery: hand-made pottery and clay wares; Dukezong: prayer flags, prayer beads and yak-dairy products.

2-Day Itinerary — Canyon + Cultural Highlights

A relaxed two-day plan: full day at Balagezong and a day exploring Shangri-La’s Tibetan culture (Songzanlin Monastery + Dukezong Old Town + Nixi pottery).

  • Day 1: Balagezong as per the 1-day schedule. Morning departure from Dukezong at ~8:30–9:00, return late afternoon.
  • Day 2 Morning — Songzanlin Monastery: Taxi or private car to Songzanlin (about 20 min; no reliable direct city bus for many visitors — taxi is fastest and convenient). Allow 1.5–2 hours to tour.
  • Day 2 Afternoon — Dukezong Old Town: Walk Dukezong’s streets, visit prayer wheels, shops and local tea houses (short walk from Songzanlin by taxi back to town ~20–30 min).

Accommodation / Food: Stay in Dukezong. Recommended meals: Tibetan yak stew, butter tea breakfast, and a Tibetan set dinner with local barley wine. Many guesthouses serve simple home-style dinners.

Souvenirs: Songzanlin: religious items (small prayer wheels, thangka reproductions); Dukezong: embroidered garments, jewelry, local wool scarves.

3-Day Itinerary — Canyon + Culture + Pudacuo National Park

Combine the canyon and culture with a full day at Pudacuo (Potatso) National Park — excellent for lakes, forests and easy boardwalk walking.

  • Day 1: Balagezong day as above (shuttle from Dukezong).
  • Day 2: Songzanlin + Dukezong + Nixi pottery (taxi or short coach rides).
  • Day 3 — Pudacuo National Park: Take a public bus from Shangri-La Bus Station (buses depart around 08:00–10:00) or join a local day tour; taxi one-way ~40 minutes (≈ ¥80) if you prefer private transfer. Expect 4–6 hours roaming Shudu Lake and Bita Lake connected by eco-shuttles/boardwalks.

Accommodation / Food: Consider one night near Pudacuo if you want an early start; otherwise return to Dukezong. Food options near the park include simple cafes and packaged picnic-style meals; in town, try trout and Tibetan dairy specialties.

Souvenirs: Pudacuo: natural products (local honey, dried mushrooms), eco-textiles; Balagezong & Dukezong: same as above (pottery, prayer flags).

4-Day Itinerary — Leisurely Discovery (Canyon, Park, Monastery, Villages)

Slow travel version: deeper exploration with extra time to visit nearby villages and viewpoint hikes without rushing.

  • Day 1: Arrive and settle in Dukezong; light walking and acclimatization.
  • Day 2: Full day Balagezong (Dukezong shuttle early AM; return late afternoon).
  • Day 3: Pudacuo National Park (bus or taxi — depart 08:00–10:00; return mid/late afternoon).
  • Day 4: Songzanlin Monastery (taxi ~20 min) + Nixi Pottery Village (coach or taxi, allow ~1–1.5 hr transit). Use this day for souvenir shopping and a relaxed walk through Dukezong’s lanes.

Accommodation / Food: Mix of guesthouse nights in Dukezong and one night in a countryside lodge if you visit nearby villages. Try multi-course Tibetan banquet one evening (some restaurants offer cultural performances).

Souvenirs: Pottery and ceramics from Nixi; monastery items; locally woven textiles and silver jewelry from village markets.

5-Day Itinerary — Canyon + Park + Cultural Circuit + Day Hike

Five days lets you add a moderate day hike or visit a nearby natural spot (easy hikes around the canyon or short outing to grasslands/river viewpoints).

  • Days 1–3: As per the 3-day plan (Balagezong, Songzanlin/Dukezong/Nixi, Pudacuo).
  • Day 4: Day hike near Balagezong—ask at the canyon entrance for recommended trails (short local trails and several viewpoint walks accessible by the scenic shuttle). Allow half to full day with shuttle assistance.
  • Day 5: Leisure, local markets, or short drive to nearby pastoral areas for photos; taxi/van hire for half day recommended (negotiate inside Dukezong; typical local half-day rental varies widely by season).

Accommodation / Food: Stay all nights in Dukezong or split one night at a countryside lodge to enjoy sunrise over the valley. Try local Tibetan breakfasts (tsampa/barley porridge) and trout dinners common in the region.

Souvenirs: Locally made wool blankets, yak wool hats, authentic Nixi pots, natural food products (honey, dried herbs).

6-Day Itinerary — In-Depth Shangri-La Region Exploration

Use six days to slow down, include all main attractions plus extra cultural experiences (home-style visits, handicraft workshops, extended hikes).

  • Days 1–3: Balagezong, Songzanlin, Dukezong/Nixi and Pudacuo (see above).
  • Day 4: Arrange a pottery workshop or a guided visit to a Tibetan family (book via a local tour desk in Dukezong).
  • Day 5: Longer day hike or private half-day van to local grasslands and lesser-visited viewpoints around the county (private van hire recommended — discuss price and mileage with driver beforehand).
  • Day 6: Free day for markets, rest, or revisiting favorite spots in Dukezong; prepare for departure (bus/flight information if leaving via Diqing Shangri-La Airport).

Accommodation / Food: Consider splurging one night at a higher-end lodge near the park (for views and comfort). Try more regional specialties (mutton stew, barley wine) and sample tea houses in Dukezong.

Souvenirs: Hand-made pottery, woven textiles, local teas, preserved fruit and cured meats (pack for travel if allowed), small religious artifacts.

7-Day Itinerary — Complete Shangri-La Immersion

A full week to fully immerse: canyon, national park, monasteries, villages, workshops, multi-day hikes and optional short trip toward the northwest if desired (Deqin/Meili area is possible but requires an additional day of travel — keep local altitude and road time in mind).

  • Days 1–4: Balagezong, Songzanlin, Dukezong & Nixi, Pudacuo (as above).
  • Day 5: Pottery class / village visit and slow photography day in town.
  • Day 6: Extended walk/hike near Balagezong or private day trip to scenic pastures; hire a private van for flexibility (negotiate price in Dukezong or via hotel concierge).
  • Day 7 (Departure day): Last-minute shopping in Dukezong, transfer to Diqing Shangri-La Airport or long-distance bus station — airport taxis are generally available from town (allow 40–60 min depending on traffic and weather).

Accommodation / Food: Mix of guesthouse nights and one or two nights in a comfortable boutique lodge. Taste both simple Tibetan home cooking and restaurants offering fusion Yunnan cuisine; don’t miss local butter tea and highland barley snacks.

Souvenirs: Everything listed above plus higher-end handicrafts (silversmith jewelry), framed thangka reproductions (carefully package for travel), specialty teas and preserved local mushrooms.

Notes & Practical Tips (transport & timing):

  • Balagezong shuttle timetable and round-trip fare from Dukezong: buses generally depart Dukezong around 8:30–9:00 (seasonal variation) and take ~1.5–2 hours; round trip shuttle about ¥60 — plan to use the scenic-area shuttle once inside.
  • Pudacuo National Park buses depart Shangri-La bus station in the morning (common departures 08:00–10:00) and taxis cost approximately ¥80 one-way (≈ 40 min).
  • Songzanlin Monastery is best reached by taxi/private car (≈ 20 minutes from Dukezong).
  • Nixi Pottery Village is ~30–40+ km by road from Shangri-La depending on route; coaches and local buses serve the village or hire a taxi/van for convenience.
  • Altitude & weather: Shangri-La is high altitude — allow time to acclimatize, drink water, and avoid strenuous hikes on your first day.

If you’d like, I can convert any single itinerary into a printable day-by-day schedule with exact shuttle times for the dates you’ll travel (I’ll look up the latest daily shuttle departures and availability).

Shangri-La Grand Canyon,

Located deep in the folds of the Hengduan Mountains,

The last second was still a plateau lake,

Quiet as a virgin hidden in the mountains and forests,

The next second, the waves surged and the torrent fell straight down.

This is a scene that happens every day in the Hengduan Mountains.

Regardless of day or night or season.

There are many such plateau lakes in the Hengduan Mountains.

Looking down, it looks like an emerald forgotten in the depths of the folds.

It is a magic mirror of the night sky.

My Yunnan Travel Notes: I'm Waiting for the Wind to Come - Yunnan Lijiang/Lugu Lake/Shangri-La Travel Notes http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/17066239.html

The best place to overlook the Shangri-La Grand Canyon is on the Echo Wall/Glass Canyon Plank Road Observation Deck in Balagzong.

The drive from Shangri-La to the Balagzong Grand Canyon takes about an hour and 40 minutes. I found the scenery along the way quite beautiful, consisting mostly of high mountain canyons. However, the scenery in Balagzong is relatively monotonous (it's all around the canyon), the tour takes a long time (5-6 hours), and the ticket price is quite expensive, so I personally think the value for money is average.

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon is also called "Balagzong". The park is located more than 80 kilometers northwest of Shangri-La County. Because one end of the canyon is named "Shangge" and the other end is named "Lila", it is named Shangri-La Grand Canyon.

The first time I saw the Grand Canyon, I felt pretty good, but after traveling along the Yunnan-Tibet line and the Hengduan Mountains, I felt like there were Grand Canyons everywhere!

By Journey of Young Heart |

The scenic area has built a plank road along the direction of the canyon. Along the plank road, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Grand Canyon, and then drift down the river by boat. This is a classic way to play the Grand Canyon scenic spot.

About half an hour later, we reached the end of the plank road and felt the clear spring flow from Balagzon. Yes, this is the true color of the water in the Balagzon Grand Canyon. Before and after the rainy season, the water in the entire river is so clear.

Nearby, you can see Mani piles piled up by tourists everywhere. In Tibetan areas, Mani piles can be seen everywhere and are a symbol of good luck.

We took a sightseeing bus to the second attraction - Tongtian Gorge. It was still the magical nature, and the mountains reaching into the sky took our breath away.

The plank road snakes up along the cliff, circling between the valleys like a giant dragon. We climb up the "dragon spine" to explore the mysterious power hidden deep in Tongtian Gorge.

I found a stream of clear water in the Tongtian Canyon. It must be the snow on some snow-capped mountain that melted and flowed into this deep canyon. The water hit the rocky mountain and made a crisp sound, which echoed in the canyon like a beautiful music.

The scenic area requires a tour bus to enter, and exploring all five attractions takes about five hours. The entrance fee is approximately 210 yuan, and the entrance gate is quite impressive. The Shangri-La Grand Canyon was built over a decade ago. The tour guide explained that it was built by a villager who gained experience while working away from home. It used to take villagers about ten days to go down the mountain to buy groceries. The village, with a total of about a dozen families, has now relocated to the foot of the mountain. The canyon is spectacular, and there's even a glass viewing platform, perfect for those with a fear of heights.

By breeze |

The plank road is 2,500 meters long, with a stone tablet like this every 500 meters. The tour guide said that the water of Gangqu River was very clear and drinkable before, but now it may be because of the recent heavy rain that the color of the river has turned green.

The scenery is beautiful and has local characteristics. It is definitely worth experiencing!

By Snow and ice |

The Balagzong Grand Canyon is a 1.5-hour drive from Shangri-La, a 3-hour round trip, passing Napahai and Yila Grassland. The scenery along the way is nice. The ticket is 150, the round-trip bus is 50, and the scenic area electric car is 60. It is a unified price, and it is up to 10 cheaper online. The rafting is 120 yuan, and it is 90 on Qunar.com, but it must be booked two hours in advance. I personally do not recommend it. It is only a five-minute journey and not exciting. The local farmers are stiff and there is no need to consume. The scenery is not spectacular, and there are many legends. The electric car has to go through 32 bends, which feels like a roller coaster. The altitude is not high and there is no need to bring oxygen!

By Posada |

I passed by it when I chartered a car. It was quite spectacular. You can get off the car and take a look.

Note: Avoid visiting during the summer or rainy season, as there is a risk of flying rocks, landslides, and mudslides.

By Shangri-La in Tibet |

This is the real Shangri-La, with deep canyons and an altitude drop of over 1,000 meters, where only a sliver of sky is visible. It is a kingdom of plants and a great place for rafting.

What impressed me most this time were the Shangri-La Grand Canyon and the thousand-year-old village - Bala Village.

I heard that the scenery will be more beautiful in late autumn in October, so I will come again then.

By Tibetan Dream |

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon is a natural attraction in the Balagzong Scenic Area.

I really like this line from a travel guide: Shangri-La is in heaven, while Balagezong is on earth. I can't go too far to heaven, but I can explore Balagezong. Balagezong is truly beautiful, with the beauty of Pudacuo (the Shangri-La Grand Canyon), the sacredness of Songzanlin (the Shambhala Pagoda and the thousand-year-old Bodhi tree), and the Tibetan culture of the thousand-year-old village of Bala. It is ancient, vicissitudes of life, and simple, so peaceful that the sight of it brings peace to my heart.

By GILI |

There are many canyons here, some of which are very deep, and where the water flows rapidly, you can only hear the sound but not see the flow.

By Xuan Xiaotu travels around the world |

The scenery is beautiful, and the sky and the earth are one color. People don't want to leave after coming here, and they will come back again next time if they have the chance.

By Glamorou$ |

The canyon is very large, the water surface is very wide, and the water flows fast. You can't take a boat, but the sound of rushing water waves echoes through the canyon. It seems that the ticket price is 250

By Moon |

When driving from Daocheng to Shangri-La, you pass through here. The road is very narrow and dangerous, and there are no guardrails, so you need to be careful when driving.

By Murphy Hou |

If you only visit for a day, you can only see a small part of the scenery. There are tour guides in the scenic area. The story of the thousand-year-old Bala Village is very interesting. It is a good attraction.

By Princess Auspicious |

The plank roads of Tongtian Gorge and Shangri-La Grand Canyon are both suspended in mid-air, giving the impression of walking on the edge of a cliff. On one side, the canyon's sheer cliffs flanked the crystal-clear Gangqu River, while on the other, rubber boats drifted down from upstream, waving to those on shore. At the end of the plank road, you can choose to return the same way you came, or raft back to Pier 2 and take a bus back to the Shuizhuang Reception Center, which offers a completely different experience.

Also known as the Balagzong Grand Canyon, it was recommended by the local driver we found. There were many promotional signs in Shangri-La. Later, we went there in half a day. We were not disappointed. The only drawback was that we went in a different season. The water was no longer turquoise but the yellow water of the rainy season. But I still recommend it, especially the two sides of the canyon are like ink paintings, and the highest scenic spot is really a paradise.

Because one end of the canyon is called "Shangge" and the other end is called "Lila", it is named Shangri-La Grand Canyon. The Balagzong Grand Canyon in Shangri-La has magnificent scenery. The Gangqu River was squeezed to the bottom of the valley at an altitude of only more than 1,000 meters by the neo-orogenic movement, while on both sides of the river are magnificent peaks as high as 4,000 to 5,000 meters. The Balagzong Snow Mountain at the end of the canyon, with an altitude of 5,545 meters, is one of the three sacred mountains in the Kham area.

At dusk, we hurried to Shangri-La. The winding mountain roads were nerve-wracking and exhausting. After winding through mountains and rivers, we turned a sharp bend and suddenly saw Haba Snow Mountain, bathed in the sunset, and the abysmal Shangri-La Grand Canyon. It was our first time to see the golden mountain in the sun. Although we hadn't reached Meili yet, Haba had already given us enough surprise and emotion. The entire sunset lasted only five minutes, making the 100-mile journey worthwhile.

I've always loved booking tickets online; it's so convenient, the service is excellent, and they offer shuttle service. I think the ticket price is very reasonable. Let's talk about the attractions! It's a pristine scenic spot, with canyons, palm trees, and the beautiful Gangqu River. The blue sky and white clouds are stunning, and the most captivating scene is the moving dance of Tashi and Dolma. The Tibetan food served at the Tibetan home visit was particularly delicious. After watching the Tibetan family's performance, there was a bonfire party at the water village. We couldn't help but dance together as they sang and danced...

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon is a tourist attraction that has been developed for several years. Its development was a monumental endeavor. Originally, there was no road, but Sina Dingzhu, who emerged from the mountains, built a paved road connecting his hometown to the outside world. I truly admire this. The ancient village, once a secluded paradise, now has access to the outside world and a chance to experience something new. The Balagzong Grand Canyon is also a developing attraction. Its two canyons, with the Gangqu River sandwiched between them, create a poetic scene with its high ravines and turbulent currents. The 2.5-kilometer cliffside plank path offers numerous rest areas, and the width is just right, allowing you to experience the feeling of walking on the edge without feeling intimidated. At the end, you can also experience the thrill of whitewater rafting, drifting amidst the turbulent waves and absorbing the tranquility of the canyon. A light drizzle fell during the rafting, refreshing the air and bringing a touch of romance. The stress accumulated during work can be released in this canyon. The crisp echoing sound brings a sense of comfort and relaxation. Quietly experiencing the deep silence of the Grand Canyon, it was a perfect trip that I still remember vividly.

By Weird Girl |

I went to Yunnan with a tour group, so it was a bit of a rush, but our first stop was Tiger Leaping Gorge. The gorge was full of turbulent water and was worth seeing. Visiting the Tujia people was also a good choice.

It's much more convenient to visit the Grand Canyon first by visiting Shangri-La and then signing up for a one-day tour. Regarding booking, many local accommodations can assist with bookings, or you can book online yourself. We asked the hostel owner to help us. The drive to the Grand Canyon is picturesque and beautiful, but the road is winding and can be a bit motion sickness-prone. If you're prone to motion sickness, take some motion sickness medicine beforehand. The Grand Canyon is relatively undeveloped, with few people inside, so many attractions are well-preserved. Perhaps due to its remote location, many facilities are less well-maintained. Our guide provided explanations along the way and also led us on a mountain hike. It was summer, and the canyon was incredibly cool. The water, flowing down from the snow-capped mountains, was incredibly cold. The stream meandered through the valley floor, its water crystal clear, and the towering peaks on either side offered a truly immersive experience of the natural beauty.

It's fun. I will definitely come again next time.

A complete rip-off! The first attraction after entering the scenic area was Bala Village, which was described as a thousand-year-old ancient village. However, upon arrival, it was a construction site with no distinctive architecture to be seen, and we were only allowed to stay for 20 minutes. At the second attraction, the Grand Canyon, the tour guide only gave us an hour and 20 minutes for a round trip, telling us we couldn't wait. The canyon itself wasn't particularly impressive; the scenery didn't change much on either side, and we couldn't get down to the river, so we just had to walk around. The third attraction involved a mountain hike, but the tour guide told us there was nothing there. We climbed a bit, figuring we'd see what we'd paid for, but we got off after it got boring. Overall, this attraction felt like a scam, with no sincerity, and completely not worth the trip!

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon has a dedicated shuttle bus service from the ancient city to the scenic area, running several times daily and offering affordable prices. The canyon itself is well worth exploring and taking photos! Tickets are relatively cheap, costing 210 yuan, including the shuttle bus. Within the scenic area, you can explore the plank road and the Sky Ladder, which is said to have over 600 steps. The rafting and village activities are also very enjoyable!

A dedicated shuttle bus service is available, taking 1.5 hours one way and costing 50 yuan per person round-trip. A guided tour is included with your ticket. This scenic area, which only gained access to electricity in 2008, boasts excellent environmental protection and is well worth a visit. Lunch is not provided, so please bring your own food. The main attractions include Bala Village, the valley plank path, and Tongtian Gorge, with its 666 steps.

To get from the Old Town to the Grand Canyon, you need to charter a car. There is a small travel shop next to the Old Town parking lot that can arrange a carpool to the Grand Canyon. It is recommended to buy tickets and rafting boat tickets online, which will be much cheaper.

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon may be visited by fewer people, so when I looked up information online before, there was not much introduction. After we got there, we found that no matter whether you are traveling independently or in a group, you have to participate in the "half-day tour" organized by the scenic spot, which means that the tour guide will follow you throughout the whole trip and you have to come out within the specified time. In fact, this scenic spot is the same as Pudacuo. There is a shuttle bus that takes you to a place and you can get off to visit. The difference is that at Pudacuo, you can get on and off the bus freely at any time, while here in Balagzong (the Shangri-La Grand Canyon), the tour guide will set a time when you get off the bus, asking you to follow the group and come back within half an hour, etc. Most of the tourists who went with me were the type who took pictures at the appointed time and left, so it can be said that this is the only place where I had a superficial visit during our trip to Yunnan.

The shuttle bus to the scenic area stops at three locations. The first is Bala Village, a small, once-isolated village. The second is the plank road below, which is quite long. The tour guide stipulated that we had to walk the plank road on the way there and return within an hour and twenty minutes. On the way back, we could choose to either retrace our steps or take a rafting boat. Later, we almost understood why the time limit was so short. We had walked quickly all the way there and only had half an hour left to get there. If we wanted to return the same way, we would have to walk even faster than we had come. We were already a little tired from walking all the way there, so we chose to take the rafting boat back.

We went during the off-season, and the rafting cost 200 yuan per person, lasting about 20 minutes. The tour guide explained the high price because the kayaks had to be carried in individually. However, I think the price was reasonable, and if you have more time on this plank road, I think many people would just walk back the same way.

The famous Shangri-La Grand Canyon is said to be very beautiful in the summer.

By Follow me everywhere |

The Shangri-La Grand Canyon is located in Bala Village, Nixi Township, Shangri-La County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Locally known as the Balagezong Grand Canyon, the canyon is beautiful, with a plank path for easy access. However, only a small section is open to the public, and the entire route is accompanied by a guide. Our guide, a local university student working part-time, even helped a colleague retrieve his glasses after he had dropped them in a dangerous area.

As a Shangri-La native, I think Balagzong is a must-see destination in Shangri-La. It boasts snow-capped mountains, canyons, rivers, and ancient villages. It's simply stunning.

As a Shangri-La local, I think the Baragezong Grand Canyon is a must-see attraction because of the grand canyon, the thousands-year-old Bara village, and the sacred snow-capped mountains. It is worth a visit.

The Gangqu River in the heart of the Shangri-La Grand Canyon has been squeezed to a depth of just over 1,000 meters by the new mountain building process, while majestic peaks rising to 4,000 to 5,000 meters on either side stand out. I was so fortunate to have experienced the true beauty of the Shangri-La Grand Canyon this time; the excitement it brought me completely dispelled any fatigue.

I feel pretty good, especially like Bala Village, a secluded wonderland!

Zhuoma, who is in charge of the explanation, is very professional. Autumn should be the most beautiful season. The blue river water in winter is also very beautiful.

There's a scenic bus to the Balagzong Grand Canyon, accompanied by a guide. The flowing water is enlivened by the blue sky, white clouds, and sunshine. The scenery I've visited would have been less impressive without the sunshine.

The return journey was still full of scenery, especially the section of Shangri-La Grand Canyon, which now feels a bit like the Xihai Grand Canyon in Huangshan, shrouded in clouds and mist, and is very beautiful.

It's a very beautiful place. It's a pity that the bus driver didn't stop. It's a bit like the Xihai Grand Canyon in Huangshan. You can charter a car from Shangri-La Ancient Town to come and see it.

I passed by this place while riding in the car. I just passed by and stopped to go to the bathroom. When I got off the car, the air was very fresh. There was heavy fog outside. The trees were tall and straight. There were yellow and red wildflowers on the roadside, which formed a strong contrast with the whole mountain. The picture was super beautiful.

At present, the development is indeed average. Although the area is vast, there are only three scenic spots to visit. The service level of the tour guides is average. The toilets in the scenic area are also very dirty. The hardware and software facilities are very average. In short, I personally think it is not worth it.

It gives people a very quiet and comfortable feeling. I feel a little disappointed to see that Tongtian Gorge has no water.

The road is too difficult to drive on and it takes a long time to turn in. Many cars along the way turned back halfway through the journey.

There are not many people, and the scenic area has special cars for pick-up. The mountain road to Bala Village is enough to make people scared, and only the professional drivers of the scenic area dare to drive up. People sitting in the car dare not look down.

It's a beautiful place, evoking a sense of paradise. Strange light and shadows, jagged rocks, and the canyon are everywhere. The Balagezong Gorge remains isolated, with no electricity or roads. The villagers are simple and sincere. A 28-kilometer treacherous mountain road is the only way for Bala Village to connect to the outside world, and mules and horses are the only means of transportation. The villagers, mountains, water, and various creatures of the canyon have coexisted for centuries, creating a tranquil and peaceful environment (this quote is from Baidu Encyclopedia). Today, Bala Village is sparsely populated, with only a few households. It's hard to imagine how their ancestors found this place and thrived there. The road to Bala Village officially opened in May of last year. It's the most dangerous road I've traveled since entering Yunnan, with countless 360-degree bends, winding like a giant python all the way to the mountaintop.

Located in Nixi Township, Shangri-La County, on the side of National Highway 214, you need to charter a car to visit. There are many alpine plants.

The Balagzong Scenic Area has only been open to tourists for a short time. Because the mountain roads are steep and the roads are difficult to repair, it was only partially open when we went there. We only visited some of the scenic spots. We were not taken to the truly beautiful attractions at all because the roads were blocked and the car could not pass. However, the ticket said that these attractions were included, so we felt it was a bit expensive...

We hiked the plank road and admired the canyon gallery (not really a gallery, but a natural mountain wall).

It’s like a natural ink painting, that’s what Canyon Gallery means.

I captured the eagle in flight, I was so happy!

There is fairy mist everywhere, and there is always a sense of ethereality.

Balagzong! We walked across a long bridge over 6 kilometers to the end! The water here is beautiful! It has two colors!
