According to legend, there's a cave on Shilian Mountain whose entrance resembles a tiger's gaping mouth. The tribe considered it an ominous omen, so they built a temple there, named Shilian Temple. Prayer flags dance wildly in the wind in front of the temple. Lotus-like plants grow on the rock walls from the foot of the mountain to both sides of the temple, extending all the way around the walls, creating a truly magical scene. Climbing Shilian Temple offers a panoramic view of Shuhe Ancient Town, making it a perfect spot for reminiscing about the past. During the Republican era, many people gathered around fires to read at night, hence the phrase "Shilian Night Reading."

Shilian Temple seems to have been built later, so it is a very new building.
Shilian Temple: Songyun Village lies at the southernmost edge of Shuhe's West Mountain, with Shilian Mountain behind it. A cave on the mountain resembles a tiger's gaping mouth. To awe the tiger's majesty, locals built a temple at the entrance, called Shilian Temple. One of the pillars is chained. During the Republic of China era, night schools were held here, where students would gather around fires to study, creating a scenic scene known as "Shilian Night Reading," one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Shuhe.
Built into the rock, it contains a cave, forming a natural stone chamber used for spiritual practice. Another hole in the roof allows for light to flow in. It's truly unique and rare. Stepping inside in slippers, one feels a sense of heaviness and stability, a sense of naturalness.
One of the eight scenic spots in Shuhe, the temple is built on the mountainside, with a high and open terrain, which is suitable for sightseeing and relaxing. It is also a place where scholars and poets go to climb high and enjoy the distant view.
It's not particularly big, but it's very quiet and worth a visit. It's located at a higher position, but because the surrounding trees are also very tall, you can only see a corner of Shuhe City, not the whole picture. It's recommended to go
I just took a quick look around, other friends who are visiting can go shopping on their own.
No tickets required!!!
If you want to see the panoramic view of Shuhe, you can come and see it, but to be honest, it is not very high and it is not the best place to take pictures. Shuhe is not big, so just come and see it when you are there. You will be disappointed if you come here specially.
Located at the foot of Jubao Mountain, the ancient Buddha statue sits in a natural cave, quiet and solemn.
Shilian Temple is hidden in a high place. There is no entrance for sightseeing. The doorplate is relatively small, so you need to pay close attention.
The only remaining traces of the ancient Tea Horse Road, the rest are gone...
This is a very remote ancient temple that few tourists visit because there are no obvious road signs. I asked in the surrounding shops and found out that I had to walk through the narrow alley to get there. If you have a short time in Shuhe Ancient Town, there is no need to visit this attraction.
Shilian Temple and Hali Valley are located in the northwest corner of the ancient town, on the southern foot of Jubao Mountain. Many people who come to the ancient town don’t pay much attention to them. After all, it is more remote than Sifang Street, Jiuding Longtan, Qinglong Bridge, Feihua Touching Water, Sifang Tingyin and other attractions.
Shilian Temple is located in Shuhe Ancient Town. Its main entrance is open, welcoming pilgrims from all directions. The temple grounds are small, with an open-air pavilion dedicated to the Shilian Kuixing God, who grants all prayers. Photography is prohibited, but if you accidentally take one, please donate some money to atone for your sin. The temple is home to only one monk and one staff member, who chants sutras. Inside, visitors must remove their hats and shoes, and photography is prohibited.
Shilian Temple is just a five-minute walk from the guesthouse where we stayed. It is a small temple that feels very quiet. You need to take off your shoes before entering the temple. It is a very pious place. The incense doesn't seem to be very popular. You can burn incense for free, of course, you can also pay a little according to your ability.
I quite like this small temple in Shuhe Ancient Town. It offers panoramic views of the town and a deeply reverent atmosphere. At the entrance, there's a platform where you can pay a fee and burn incense. You just need to register your name, address, and wishes, then light three incense sticks. Every monk you meet will clasp their hands, smile, and nod, which is very comforting.
On the mountain, the view is not very good because of the trees around, but it is very quiet and it is nice to enjoy the breeze and the sun.
At the back of Shuhe Ancient Town, I climbed to the temple entrance. It seemed like the temple was busy that day, so I didn't go in. The steps leading up were quite steep, and the entrance was a bit off-center, so I didn't see the lotus-like plants growing on the stone walls from the foot of the mountain to both sides of the temple. Climbing up to Shilian Temple offers a panoramic view of Shuhe Ancient Town. However, a small hill behind it offers a better view of the entire town, as well as views of Lijiang city and perfect for watching the sunrise in the morning.
Located in Shuhe Ancient Town, not far from the center of the ancient town, it is very convenient to travel. The surrounding environment is very good
Shilian Temple in Yujiang. Lijiang. A great place.
The girl I was traveling with was quite particular about not allowing photography in the temple. It happened to be snowing when we visited, and the wintersweet buds were about to bloom, their fragrance tangible from afar. Walking along Renli Road, west of the ancient town, you'll find Shilian Temple. It's on a hill, a short climb, but not too high. Admission is free, so visitors are welcome to visit if they have time. It also offers a bird's-eye view of Shuhe Ancient Town. The view, with the snow-covered mountains in the distance and the azure sky beneath, creates a unique atmosphere. The temple grounds are small, with an open-air pavilion dedicated to Shilian Kuixing, the deity who grants all wishes.
Climb up to Shilian Temple and overlook the Shuhe Ancient Town. It is a good place to climb up and reminisce about the past. It is relatively secluded and there are few tourists.
It's okay, it's a small temple. We went there just with the feeling that we must worship in any temple, hehe,
I found that we didn’t visit many places in Shuhe.
In fact, many tourists don’t know about this place, so few people go there, because there is nothing special about it and the location is a bit hidden. I only went there when I went to Lijiang for the third time. It is suitable for those who like to walk around the streets.
It is one of the eight scenic spots in Shuhe. Standing outside the temple, you can see the whole picture of Shuhe Ancient Town.
This ancient temple is really special. Generally, few tourists come here. We also stumbled upon it while trying to find our way in Shuhe. It is worth a visit.
Finally found Shilian Temple. It was hard to find, but the temple is definitely worth a visit.
There was no one inside, only the sound of a monk chanting sutras. It was very quiet and peaceful.
I personally think this is a worthwhile attraction, even though I'm not religious. First, the Buddha is in a real cave, which gives it a very original feel. Remember to take off your shoes before entering. The temple is actually free, and being up on the mountain, it's quite cool. Third, the panoramic view of Shuhe from the top is magnificent. The only caveat is that there's a warning on the stone steps leading up to Shilian Temple about slippery terrain, so be careful.
When I went there, there was a lot of construction going on around, so I walked along the construction site and up a few steps, and came to a small temple. The temple was full of prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and my heart felt much calmer.
The shot of Shuhe Ancient Town, walking up the highest mountain, a quiet temple, Tibetan Buddhism. Remember to take off your shoes when entering the temple, and no photos are allowed.
Our route to Shilian Temple was to cross Qinglong Bridge, go straight, and then turn left at a T-junction. After a short walk, turn right and head uphill. Many alleys don't have names, so if you can't find them, just ask at the inns along the alleyways. Shilian Temple closes early, so be sure to visit at the right time.
An ancient temple, I wonder if the people inside are as peaceful as us.
There you can overlook the scenery of the entire ancient city, which is particularly beautiful. It is worth a walk!
Shilian Temple does not seem to be very famous and is not mentioned in many travel books, but this is also why it is not "bustled" by tourists. If you have nothing to do, you can walk in and take a stroll to calm your mind.
Behind Shuhe Village lies a small peak, upon which stands a small temple called Shilian Temple. When we reached it, there were no visitors. The temple is small, with a pillar chained to a point, supposedly to suppress a cave resembling a tiger's mouth. Many of the mountain dwellings have been converted into inns, and many are undergoing extensive construction. I suddenly had the urge to buy an inn and run it. That way, I could earn money while living a relaxed, undemanding life.
You can see the panoramic view of the ancient town, and the field of vision is very broad. When entering Shilian Temple, you must take off your hat and shoes, and photography is not allowed.
I heard that Shilian Temple is not far from the inn and you can see the panoramic view of Shuhe, but when we went there it was blocked by trees.
It takes a short hike up the mountain to reach the Shilian Temple where our class was studying, so there were almost no tourists. From the temple courtyard and the back door, you can overlook Shuhe Ancient Town. Although it's not a complete view, it's still worth a visit.
Usually there are not many people, it is suitable for older people to visit. There are not many attractions, but the environment is very elegant.
A relatively small and ancient temple. I went there with my friends before and there was no one there. I still felt a little scared, haha
The environment inside is quite good and quiet. There is also a tea room where a master can give guidance.
The temple is built into the mountainside, and inside is a stone cave enshrining a Buddha statue. It's very cool and peaceful inside. We stood there for a while before realizing there was someone praying next to us. How quiet must it be for none of us to notice there was someone inside?! Standing outside the temple, you can overlook the entire Shuhe Ancient Town.
The temple, a Tibetan Buddhist temple, looked rather run-down and deserted. But the scenery was truly breathtaking. My biggest feeling at the time was that I was truly living on Earth. The vastness of the place made me feel as if I were seeing the entire planet. Under the blue sky and white clouds, everything was so beautiful and peaceful that I couldn't leave.
Just next to the inn, just wander around, I like the ancient buildings here, it gives people a very quiet feeling
There are not many people, no tickets, the place is a bit remote, it is better to buy a Shuhe map, Baidu map is still not easy to find. There is no food nearby, not many people, it is quite deserted.
I like Shilian Temple! I heard that things here seem to have changed, and Master Danzhen (I don't know if it's these two words) has also left. I don't know if this temple still exists.
Shuhe is where I can truly calm down, or more precisely, in Shilian Temple.
Shilian Temple is quite hidden, and I almost missed such a great place out of worry. Fortunately, I was brave enough.
A small Tibetan Buddhist temple with some history, built on the mountain, with a cave inside that houses a Buddha statue.
One of the Eight Scenic Spots of Shuhe, this place is a favorite destination for scholars and writers. It was once a private school during the Republic of China era. It was later converted into a school after the May Fourth Movement. You can experience the cultural atmosphere of Lijiang.
Located in the Renli Fourth Community on the top of a mountain in Shuhe Ancient Town, Old Town District. Every time you chant the Buddha's name in this secular world, a lotus will blossom for you in the Western Paradise.
There are few people visiting Lotus Mountain behind Shuhe Town. After passing Shilian Temple, you can climb to the top of the mountain and have a panoramic view of Shuhe Ancient Town and Dayan Ancient Town.
It's in a small alley in Shuhe Ancient Town. It's a little mysterious and hard to find, but the scenery is pretty good.
Shilian Temple is located on a hill. I arrived there after a leisurely stroll. I was struck by the sight as I reached the top. The temple itself is quite small, but the main building is a cave-like structure, housing several Buddha statues. The moment I took off my shoes and entered, I felt a profound sense of peace. Many prayer flags hung outside the temple, their vibrant colors faded from the sun and rain, yet they possessed a unique tranquility.
The scenery is beautiful and worth a visit. I will definitely go there if I have the chance.
I also happened to pass by it while strolling with my mother, but the sign didn't seem to be like this! It was difficult to walk inside. It was full of decoration materials and stones, and it was dusty. But I still climbed up with my mother. You can see the panoramic view of Shuhe in the courtyard. It is also free. The temple is very small. Out of respect for the temple, I only took a photo of the prayer flags in the courtyard. It was still quite touching.
I recommend a visit, it has a unique flavor in Shuhe Ancient Town.
