Shuhe Sifang Street

束河四方街

The central square is only 30 meters long and wide, but it extends into many streets. It is one of the oldest markets in Lijiang Basin.
In ancient times, pedestrians holding lanterns would walk along the banks of the Qinglong River at night, just like fireflies on a summer night, hence the saying "fireflies at the night market".
Today, Sifang Street Square is filled with shops with simple and artistic decorations and ancient buildings. It is full of local flavor and suitable for taking photos.

Sifang Street in Shuhe Ancient Town has five roads leading to all directions. It is surrounded by water and is a market at noon. It is one of the oldest markets in Lijiang Basin.

In ancient times, Shuhe's Sifang Street hosted a night market. People strolled along the street, much like modern urbanites, stopping at random to explore, eat, and play their favorite games. Marketgoers, their hands raised, wandered along the banks of the Qinglong River, like fireflies on a summer night, creating a scene known as "Night Market Fireflies," one of Shuhe's eight scenic spots. The square is surrounded by shops, their ancient wooden facades, the mottled stone pavement beneath their feet, and the elderly sitting idle, all highlighting Shuhe's quaint, natural character.

The center of the ancient town is surrounded by small shops, and it is inevitable to run into a few couples taking wedding photos.

Anyone who comes to Shuhe Ancient Town will come to Sifang Street, because this street is the central area here. My wife and I came here to take wedding photos, which attracted the attention of many tour groups nearby.

Entering Shuhe Ancient Town, you can walk there. Sifang Street is not big, located in the center of the ancient town. It is quite lively, with many shops and tourists, and it is bustling.

By Traveler |

The best time to take photos is in the morning when there are fewer people.

The closer you get to Sifang Street, the more crowded it gets. I guess because it's the heart of Shuhe Ancient Town, ancient people had a pretty easy time figuring out street names. They simply called any area in the heart of the town Sifang Street. There are plenty of shops selling African drums on Sifang Street, but only one has truly managed to create an African-themed atmosphere.

I ordered a drink here with my brother and listened to the singers singing folk songs on the second floor. It was a very pleasant afternoon!

Overall it is quite commercial, with some nice little shops, so it's ok to go in and have a look.

Fortunately, there is no entrance fee, and it is nice to sit in the bar at night.

By Momo☀️ |

The rain-drenched Shuhe Ancient Town also has its own beauty. Standing under the eaves to shelter from the rain and listening to the songs from the bar opposite is also a wonderful memory.

Ancient towns across the country are like this, bustling with street vendors! It's just much less crowded than Lijiang Old Town, with only a few people sparsely populated in the central area of Suhe Ancient Town. The benefit is that shopping is less crowded, less tiring, and less bustling, making it a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The river pools above Suhe Ancient Town create a relaxing atmosphere. The water in Suhe Ancient Town is derived from snow flowing down from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain... It's incredibly clean! The pure snow water complements the aquatic plants in the water, creating a refreshing and relaxing atmosphere.

By Time is singing |

It is basically a miniature of Sifang Street in Lijiang, but Shuhe is not as crowded. Some small shops have good things and the prices are more reasonable than those in Lijiang.

There are many inns in Shuhe, and there are also many lively places to eat.

The old wooden facades, painted dark red, and the mottled stone pavement beneath your feet outline the ancient town's simple and natural character. In the morning, there were still few tourists on Sifang Street.

By Eric |

If you have visited Lijiang Ancient Town or Dali Ancient Town, there is no need to go to Shuhe. It is far away and you must take a bus to get there. It is not necessary for independent travelers.

By Mamie |

Shuhe's Old Sifang Street, near Qinglong Bridge, is the heart of Shuhe's old town. Five streets radiate from Sifang Street: one westward, along the Qinglong River, leading to Renli Village; one eastward, leading to the headquarters; one southward, leading to the Shuhe New District; one northward, leading to Jiuding Longtan; and another northward, leading to Zhonghe Village. Under the vast night sky, a torch blazed eastward, then westward. Soon, a string of torches appeared eastward, and then westward, forming a chain. The two banks of the river came alive, string after string, forming a sea of torches that illuminated the sky like daylight. Shuhe's Sifang Street instantly transformed into a festive, carnival-like event. The bustling night market offered food, drinks, entertainment, and fun, seemingly gathering all the joys of the world. Bonfire parties were held every night, with everyone dancing and singing together, a truly delightful occasion.

When visiting Lijiang, I recommend you stay two days each in Dayan and Shuhe. Although Shuhe is smaller than Dayan, the scenery is quite good and it is worth staying for two days to slowly explore.

Sifang Street is the center of Shuhe Ancient Town. Every ancient city center of the Naxi people has a Sifang Street, and Baisha also has one. It is said that it was built to facilitate public activities such as meetings and conferences.

Shuhe's Sifang Street has become a commercialized area, with numerous shops, but the architecture is still quite nice, and you'll often see young people taking wedding photos. A visit to Shuhe is a must.

By I am so poor |

The commercialization is basically catching up with an ancient town in Lijiang. Sifang Street is the center of the ancient town. It is nice to stroll on the stone road. There is a clear stream flowing in front of every house. You can go upstream along the stream to see more things and buy less things!

By Winter velvet flowers |

In Shuhe Ancient Village, commercialization is quite strong, and most of the places are bars.

By Trailblazer |

Shuhe Ancient Town is not as noisy as Dayan Ancient Town. There are local residents. Things are also cheaper than Dayan.

By ____ escape |

Located inside the Lijiang Ancient Town, Sifang Street is a relatively large square. Compared with the more densely packed alleys in the ancient town, it is integrated with the Lijiang Ancient Town.

By Classmate Lao Wang |

Compared to the bustling and noisy Lijiang Old Town, Shuhe Old Town is more peaceful and tranquil, making it more suitable for a leisurely stroll with just a few people.

By Secretly flirting |

Such a tiny place can be considered a tourist attraction. Just for this reason, I also gave 3 stars to the fountain downstairs in our community.

By Edwin |

Like Lijiang, this place has all the square streets, alleys, small bridges and flowing water, but they are all smaller, so they look very delicate.

By HoHsiungs |

Compared to Lijiang Old Town, I think Shuhe Old Town is better. It's less crowded, quieter, and the scenery isn't bad either. It's right next to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the drive from Lijiang Old Town takes about 10 to 20 minutes. The food in Shuhe Old Town is similar to that in Lijiang Old Town. There are a few wedding photography spots there, so you can check them out. The owner was very kind and let us in, which was quite a sight.

It feels better than Lijiang. It takes about half an hour to get there from Lijiang Bus Station. Compared with Lijiang, it has less commercial atmosphere. It is good to feel the style of Yunnan.

Sifang Street is a must-visit when visiting Lijiang. It is full of flowers and you need to walk slowly and look carefully.

By What JK said |

It is similar to Sifang Street in Lijiang, a crossroads of an ancient street. It is quite lively.

By Emily🌻 |

This Sifang Street is obviously much smaller than the Sifang Street in Lijiang Dayan Ancient Town, and there are not as many fancy performances, but the torches at night are still quite nice.

By Big Dream |

A good place for shopping. But the ground is a bit bumpy when walking on it.

The taxi fare from Lijiang city to Shuhe Ancient Town is 30 yuan. Sifang Street is inside the ancient town. The ancient town is older, less crowded than Dayan Ancient Town, and the commercial atmosphere is also weaker.

Shuhe Sifang Street is the central market in Shuhe Ancient Town, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province. Several roads connect it in all directions. Smaller than its counterpart in Lijiang, Shuhe Sifang Street is less crowded with tourists and less commercial. Residents relax here, creating a tranquil and unpretentious atmosphere. Sifang Street is a relaxing place to sit and savor the tranquility and beauty of this small town.

It's quieter than Lijiang Ancient Town, which is okay.

By Casual Years |

Although we arrived in Lijiang on a day that was neither a holiday nor a weekend, we were still caught off guard by the surging crowds in Lijiang. Small bridges, flowing water, and the plateau Jiangnan are the portrayal of Lijiang's Sifang Street. However, if you want to experience it in detail, it is best to go in the early morning when there are few people and it is quiet. At night, the whole street is lit up with red lanterns, and the voices of guitar singers can be heard from the bars. There is a high platform on the left side of the entrance to the ancient city, called the Observation Tower. Climbing up and looking into the distance, the panoramic view of the ancient city is presented in front of us.

By Qi☀️Endless joy |

Shuhe Ancient Town lies at the heart of all Lijiang's scenic areas, serving as a hub for visiting Lijiang Old Town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Lugu Lake, the First Bend of the Yangtze River, and the Three Parallel Rivers Scenic Area. Traveling north from Lijiang Old Town along the main road east of Zhongji Lake for about four kilometers, you'll find a dense cluster of villages at the foot of the mountains on both sides. This is Shuhe Ancient Town, known as the Land of Clear Springs. Xu Xiake once traveled this path while visiting Zhishan Jietuo Forest. In his account, he wrote: "Crossing a stone bridge over a dry stream, I gazed westward toward Zhonghai Lake. Willows shrouded the waters, and a large settlement towered above. This is Shiheyuan." "Shihe" is the ancient name for Shuhe Ancient Town.

Standing here, you can feel the historical prosperity of thousands of years ago.

By The return of the south wind is also a day |

Well, to be more specific, it's the commercial street in Shuhe Ancient Town. Unlike other commercial streets, this one is incredibly picturesque! There's a stream running down the middle of the road, crossed by small bridges. The shops on either side are deliberately decorated in an artistic style, making this a truly beautiful commercial street filled with artistic flair.

Whether it's dining, coffee, or showing off, everything is catered for here. Every shop will tell you they have a five-star rating on Dianping, but I'm not sure. Specialty shops offer free shipping for any price you pay.

By Findy |

Compared with other places in Shuhe Ancient Town, it is a more lively place and belongs to the commercial area.

By Ning Xiaoning |

Compared to the commercialization of Lijiang Ancient Town, friends can actually come to Shuhe. There are fewer people, and the flavor of some ancient towns is good, especially in the early morning and evening, there will be very different scenes.

By Han, Wei |

Shuhe is far more peaceful and leisurely than Lijiang Old Town. A cup of coffee, a song, and an afternoon make you sigh that life is enough. Visiting Lijiang's unique shops, taking away a bookmark, and setting foot on the Shuhe Old Town's stamp, I want to come again with my future love. How can such a beautiful scenery not be shared with others? Relatively speaking, there are fewer people, and the flowing water is very clean. Personally, I feel it is much better than Lijiang Old Town.

By Milulu is lost |

Shuhe gave me an average feeling, so if you don't have enough time, I don't recommend coming here.

By GILI |

If you have time, you can go and have a look. It seems that there have been big changes.

By There is no wind without waves, I blow and blow |

I successfully caught a cute creature in Shuhe Ancient Town!

By LOLO |

When you go to Lijiang, you absolutely have to visit Shuhe. Why? Because after leaving the commercialized, crowded Lijiang, you'll feel truly at ease in Shuhe, a tranquil ancient town. There were very few people there when we arrived, and there weren't many people there even when we left. However, Shuhe is also becoming more commercialized. The two cups of coffee we ordered at the cafe were incredibly expensive, and even more importantly, they were so weak, like they were diluted with water, with only a hint of flavor to tell you it was coffee...

By Relax with the wind |

Shuhe is quieter than Lijiang Old Town and has more of an ancient town atmosphere. It is worth a visit.

By 💋 Lele |

There are souvenir shops, snacks and Naxi singing and dancing performances nearby in the ancient town.

Lijiang Ancient Town is quiet and comfortable! There are not many people. What Lijiang has, Shuhe has. I personally prefer Shuhe Ancient Town.

By Li Lingna |

It's a beautiful ancient town, which is said to be built later and used for filming. Unfortunately, I didn't go inside due to time constraints. It is said that the film "Longmen Escort Agency" was filmed inside.

By Jiangdong |

It’s a quiet town, but I didn’t know that I could hire a car to go there, so I just followed the advice of my fellow villagers and took the bus. As a result, I walked a long way to get to Shuhe.

By JO |

When I went there in 2012, it wasn't a holiday, so I really enjoyed it compared to the bustling Lijiang. I wonder what it's like now. Back then, we rode horses all day along the Ancient Tea Horse Road. It was fun and not tiring. The Naxi men who led the horses were playful and welcoming. I still remember that afternoon sitting on the grass overlooking Lijiang, the sunlight filtering through the faint trees. It's a wonderful memory.

By Xiapu Linsheng |

Shuhe Ancient Town is famous for its tranquility. Compared with Lijiang Ancient Town, the commercial atmosphere here is not as strong, and there are not as many tourists as in Lijiang Ancient Town. Many people prefer to choose to stay in an inn here.

By Enjoy Travel |

Shuhe Ancient Town, where the "Longmen Escort Agency" is located, is a famous ancient town in Lijiang area, on par with Dayan Ancient Town.

By Travel on a dandelion |

I passed by Shuhe, brushed shoulders with the sunset, ate yak beef and a plate of Jianshui tofu, and quietly ended this beautiful day.

By mocmoc |

I like Shuhe more than Lijiang. I like the quiet beauty. I will stay in Shuhe next time.

By Wei |

After visiting Lijiang Ancient Town, I stayed for a day to go to Shuhe. The things are basically the same, but there are fewer people and it is not too crowded.

By Jijiuer |

Not as fun as Dali. Not as exquisite as Phoenix, just average.

By Sunny Day Travel 78 |

I prefer Shuhe to Dayan. It is not so noisy, but not deserted either. The architectural pattern is similar to Dayan, but it feels more ancient. It is a good place to wander around and relax.

By Joyce |

We drove from Kunming to Lijiang and first arrived at Shuhe. The driver said that it would be quieter here than Dayan Ancient Town, and there were not many people on the streets. I felt that the quiet time felt good. It is indeed much quieter than Dayan and not so lively. It is enough for leisure.

By I want my own taste 🔅🔆 |

Although Shuhe Ancient Town is not that prosperous, it is really pleasant. It is not very big. You can visit it twice a day. It is also a special experience to go out for dinner at night. There are dogs and flowers everywhere. I like it very much.

By Wandering around |

Things in Shuhe are very cheap. I suggest you buy things in Shuhe if you want to buy them.

By Wei Lan |

Compared to Lijiang Old Town, Shuhe Old Town is quieter and less bustling, making it more suitable for leisurely touring and savoring the scenery. Find a teahouse, drink a cup of tea, chat, read, listen to music, and enjoy a leisurely, slow-paced life.

By yang |

After arriving in Lijiang, we rented bicycles in Lijiang Old Town that afternoon and rode to Shuhe Ancient Town. Although the distance isn't very far, the UV rays are very strong, so those who choose to ride should pay attention to sun protection. Shuhe Ancient Town lacks the bustle and bustle of Lijiang Old Town and is more peaceful. It's very pleasant to sit down here and enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring the scenery outside the window. When you first enter Shuhe Ancient Town, there are grilled black goat and yak skewers at the entrance, but it's hard to tell whether they are real or fake. Also, there are two or three very cute large dogs standing in front of the small shops here. It's recommended not to take pictures, as there is a fee. The ancient town is much more lively at night than during the day. Under the bright lights, it is very romantic to enjoy delicious food.
