After returning from Chongqing, I was bored and wanted to go somewhere close by. I looked at the map and realized I hadn't been to Chuxiong yet. Driving from Qujing, it took three hours to reach Dinosaur Valley. As soon as we got off the highway, we found the parking lot was full, so the staff told us to park in the open space near the amusement park, which was still under construction.

I recommend buying a ticket for the Great Ruins-Waterfalls. The ticket is originally 20 yuan, but it seems to be discounted to 15 yuan during the Spring Festival. First, we went to the Dinosaur Ruins. The pavilion on the left is a display of dinosaur fossils, and the pavilion on the right is called "Dinosaur Base Camp" which is a popular science museum about dinosaurs.

The Dinosaur Base Camp has three exhibition halls: "The Life of Dinosaurs," which features models of dinosaurs, some of which are animated; and "The Extinction of Dinosaurs," which features a 7-minute short film about the extinction of dinosaurs. Anyone interested in dinosaurs will likely know about this, so it's perfect for children. There's also a VR experience center, but I didn't have much interest in it and didn't go.

Here at the dinosaur ruins are some dinosaur fossils, a large number of them, very spectacular. Some are still in the soil and have not been dug out. At the back are the fossils of the Giraffe, which are so large that people standing at its feet are like ants.

Finally, we took a car to the waterfall. There was a restaurant there, but the food was terrible and tasteless. The waterfall was just down from the restaurant, and that was the end of the entire scenic area. There were some man-made waterfalls with dinosaur figures on top, some of which had their paint peeled off in the sun, showing they hadn't been maintained for a long time. Finally, we took a car to the exit of the scenic area.

There is also an amusement park in the scenic area that has not been built yet. The overall feeling is still average. The most interesting part is the big ruins. It is recommended to visit for 2-3 hours.

Opening hours: 09:00-18:00 Ticket price: 70 yuan/person for adults, 35 yuan/person for children

Parking fee: 10 yuan Battery car: 20 yuan/person

Transportation: Self-driving (80 kilometers from Kunming city to the scenic area, 1 hour drive, highway toll: 41 yuan)

The World Dinosaur Valley scenic area is arguably the world's most astounding dinosaur site in Lufeng. Tickets include access to both the China Lufeng Dinosaur Site and the Dinosaur Base Camp. Besides viewing dinosaur fossils, there are also rides similar to Happy Valley, though these are charged separately. Our main focus this time was on Dinosaur Valley, where the site still holds numerous unexcavated fossils, pristinely preserved in the soil. It's like stepping back in time to a world four billion years ago that once dominated the Earth, only to be frozen in time forever!

If you just visit the Dinosaur Museum like we did, you can finish visiting both venues in less than an hour, but if you want to play the rides inside, you will need a whole day. We took an electric car to quickly tour the amusement park area, which was a bit disappointing. The decoration and scenery materials were really simple. It could have restored the scene of Jurassic Park and let visitors experience it, but it looked like an ordinary children's park. The operator OCT should learn from the layout design of Universal Studios so that Chinese people can also have their own big park.

"To the north are the Terracotta Warriors, to the south is Dinosaur Valley." Dinosaur Valley is located in Lufeng County, Chuxiong, Yunnan Province, 60 kilometers west on the highway. As a 5A scenic spot, the service needs improvement, but for dinosaur enthusiasts, it's still worth a visit.

My child likes dinosaurs very much, so I went to see them specially. It is the discovery site of Lufeng dinosaurs. Many dinosaur fossils have been excavated there. It is a place where we can play and learn about science. It is also very convenient because it is next to the highway.

If you are not very interested in dinosaurs, then don't go. There is nothing there except two fossil halls. The fossils are mainly concentrated in the second hall, and the ticket price is more than 100 yuan, which is not worth it at all.

The park is divided into two major areas: the "Dinosaur Site Scientific Expedition and Sightseeing Area" and the "Jurassic World Tourist Area".

It is one of the areas in the world with the richest, most complete, oldest and most primitive dinosaur fossils unearthed so far, and is the hometown of Chinese dinosaurs.

Located in Lufeng County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, this 4A-rated scenic spot costs 120 yuan. I hadn't heard of it before, but I was on a tour group and one of the attractions was here. It displays a variety of dinosaurs, including some fossils. I'm not a big fan of this type of attraction; it's just average. But if you have children, you might want to bring them here.

World Dinosaur Valley recreates a lost Jurassic era.

There are several large sections inside, which are very shocking. There are also high-tech displays showing the life of dinosaurs at that time. The baby is very interested

There are dinosaur extinction experience areas, time and space spaceships, Jurassic Carnival, scientific research camps, Jurassic plank roads, etc. It is really awe-inspiring. The rise and fall of such a powerful group of creatures back then is admirable and sad.

I came to Roots to soak in the hot springs and stopped by Dinosaur Valley for sightseeing. I was pleasantly surprised by the real, tall and complete dinosaur skeletons, which were very shocking. The facilities and public services inside are quite good, and are no less than those of science and technology museums in first-tier cities. It is very suitable to bring children to learn about science and participate in interactive activities. If you come here on a non-holiday, there are not many people in the morning, but starting in the afternoon, there are groups of sightseeing tours.

A good place, worth taking the children to play.

By Asian fish |

I don't recommend this place. Unless you're a serious dinosaur enthusiast or traveling with your family, it's not worth the trip. The main issues are transportation and the attractions. More on that below.

1. Transportation

Personally, if you come by car, it's the best! It's convenient and right next to the national highway.

Secondly, it is convenient to come with a tour group.

If you come by car, it is really inconvenient!

Depart from Kunming, take the Northwest Bus Station (36 yuan without insurance), tell the driver to get off at Dinosaur Valley, then get off and wait for the bus to Dinosaur Valley (5 yuan, very close, obviously a rip-off for outsiders). It is not recommended to walk there, as there are large trucks next to the national highway, so safety first!

On the way back, I took a bus from Kunming and transferred to Lufeng for 15 yuan (there were minivans soliciting passengers at the entrance of the scenic area). I met a bus from Kunming on the way and it still charged 15 yuan. It was obviously a rip-off. 30 yuan back to Kunming

2 The scenic area itself

The scenic area is divided into three sections. The first section (my personal highlight) features dinosaur fossils and information. Honestly, it's quite impressive, with impressive design and impressive design. Otherwise, the second section is completely shoddy, filled with artificial structures like waterfalls and restaurants (which can be ignored). Finally, the third section is the amusement park, and I'm confused as to what it has to do with dinosaurs. It seems the park is intended to be family-friendly, but they haven't put any effort into it. The amusement park could be designed to be more dinosaur-friendly. It's just like any other park in China, with no real attractions. Kids might enjoy it, but adults won't. It's a small area with maybe five or six attractions. Again, some of the attractions require a fee. There are electric carts for 20 yuan, but I don't think I'd have to use them. It's not a long distance, but in hot weather, it's better not to bother with them.

Not recommended at all

By Jared |

The scale is relatively large, especially the large site~~The number and volume of dinosaur bones are much larger than those in Zigong! The environment is also well built, a must-go for family trips!

By Dell |

The publicity plan is not good and has no appeal.

By The Earl traveled around |

The scenic area is well planned. The koi under the bridge are very beautiful. The dinosaur display inside is also very real and complete.

By That year I was obsessed with the memorial service |

It is recommended to go in the summer, especially the summer vacation, which will give you a different feeling. You can also go to the hot springs after playing.

By That year I was obsessed with the memorial service |

Don't go! I'd never heard of this attraction before, and I hadn't seen any stunning pictures on forums. As a Yunnan native, I've been to every attraction around Kunming, and I figured I'd miss this one, so I decided to go there on a whim this weekend. Honestly, the transportation is incredibly convenient. I've never seen an attraction so close to a highway exit, and there aren't many like it in China. The entrance is quite grand, and the entire area is quite large, so... that's why the entrance fee is 120 + 15 = 135. Well, it's clear the developers spent a lot of money. The dinosaur museum is indeed quite good, with dozens of complete dinosaur fossils, presumably all authentic. It's second only to Changzhou and Zigong. However, only the dinosaur museum at the first stop is worth visiting; don't bother visiting any of the other sites. The museum itself is worth a visit between 20 and 40. The 135 yuan entrance fee went to two other attractions. The second attraction was a waterfall, artificial. The problem was, it wasn't open when we went. It was just a tall, artificial rock formation. The bus didn't even have to stop; it was just a slow drive and a minute of watching from the bus was enough. The third attraction was an amusement park. Haha, it wasn't fun at all. The facilities weren't as good as Haigeng Park. And the main thing was, no one was playing there, so there wasn't enough space for a group to go. We just watched it in the scorching sun. There's an indoor (covered) amusement park next door, but it's optional and not very popular either. That's all I needed to do: the dinosaur museum took about 40 minutes, and the other two took a combined 20 minutes. The 135 yuan ticket... If you haven't been there, don't go. I've been to a lot of attractions both in China and abroad, and this is definitely the second worst attraction I've ever seen. (The first is the Kunming World Expo Park, which I think is undeniably the best.) :)

I have to admit, I was drawn to this site from the highway. It was that massive building with horns on its head. Not for the dinosaurs, but for that big building... The dinosaur site is magnificent. It's like the Terracotta Army in the north and the Dinosaur Valley in the south—a pretty fitting description. The core attraction is that one pavilion, and the rest, the electric cart shuttles, are simply a way to expand the area. But isn't just seeing the dinosaurs enough? You've expanded it so much, filled it with fake dragons, and added a children's playground—it completely undermines the spirit of scientific exploration. Oh, and the ticket price is quite steep, especially for the electric cart. The electric carts are a major highlight of my entire Yunnan trip!

While in Dinosaur Valley, I kept pondering this question: if the former overlords of the Earth are now being viewed as fossils by us, will humans, the overlords of today, one day be viewed by other species? Compared to dinosaur fossils, such large-scale discoveries are relatively rare, so if you're interested, you should visit.

Dinosaurs, the rulers of prehistoric Earth, have been discovered in numerous locations. Major exhibits featuring them include Zhucheng, Shandong; Changzhou, Jiangsu; and Lufeng, Chuxiong, Yunnan. During my first visit to Yunnan, Chuxiong's World Dinosaur Valley hadn't yet been completed, but the second visit to Yunnan Dinosaur Valley was already a first stop. The World Dinosaur Valley is located in Lufeng County, Chuxiong, Yunnan, demonstrating the importance the locals place on this attraction, with a dedicated highway access. The excavation site at the Lufeng Dinosaur Valley site reveals a 160-million-year-old Early Middle Jurassic dinosaur fossil site, slanted at a 25-degree angle, 15 meters high, 40 meters wide, and 100 meters long. This is the world-renowned Early Middle Jurassic dinosaur fossil site, discovered in 1995. From October 1997 to October 1999, paleontologists from China and the United States conducted five excavations in two phases, digging two exploratory pits covering an area of 512 square meters. They unearthed 12 dinosaur fossils in varying stages of completion, four snake-necked turtles, and fossilized rock stems of fish scales, fish bones, snails, ostracods, and bivalves. These fossils were named the "Chuanjie Dinosaur Fauna," dating back to the Middle Jurassic Period.
