After a week of cloudy and rainy days, today, I saw the long-lost sunshine in the botanical garden. At this moment, the botanical garden has distant mountains, ripples on the water, swaying palm trees, and green grass... Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in Menglun Town, Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, more than 40 kilometers away from the city. This is also the only way from Kunming to Mohan, the border port of Laos. The tropical botanical garden is located on the bank of Luosuo River, a tributary of the Lancang River, and surrounds its beautiful gourd-shaped peninsula. The annual average temperature here is 21.5C and the climate is humid. It was founded in the 1950s by Professor Cai Xitao, a famous botanist in my country. After nearly 60 years of construction and development, it has become a comprehensive research institution integrating scientific research, seed preservation, and popular science tourism. From Jinghong City, you can take a minibus for 21 yuan to get directly to the main entrance of the botanical garden. The botanical garden is divided into two parts, the West District and the East District; the West District is mainly a botanical garden with more than 30 classified gardens. The East Zone is much larger than the West Zone. It is a tropical rainforest of more than 800 hectares. You have to climb mountains to get in. Therefore, older tourists usually only choose the West Zone. The Botanical Garden ticket is 80 yuan per person, half price for those aged 60-70, and free for those aged 70 and above.

The car first took us to the Mengsheng Botanical Garden and the Shuisheng Botanical Garden, which are adjacent to each other. There are Thai Victoria and water lilies here. The Victoria's leaves are as big as a lid, lying flat on the water, like a large bathtub. It is said that even a child lying on it will not sink. The lotus leaves cover most of the water surface of the pond. The water surface is like a mirror, the lotus leaves are lazy, but there is not a single blooming lotus! I wonder if we are here at the wrong time, or if the Victoria does not bloom at all? Standing on the bank of the pond with only lotus leaves but no lotus, you certainly won't see the artistic conception of "straight inside and outside, no vines or branches, fragrant and clear, and standing tall and clean". Think about it, if Mr. Zhou Dunyi saw the Thai Victoria without lotus, what would he write? Water lilies are much smaller than Victoria amazonica. The lotus leaves are densely packed and cover the entire pond surface. The flowers are pink and white. "They are graceful and shy, just like pearls, stars in the blue sky, and beauties just out of the water. The breeze brings wisps of fragrance" (Zhu Ziqing's "Moonlight over the Lotus Pond"). Its leaves are not like those we often see, standing upright and above the water. At this time, the leaves of the water lilies are also lazily floating on the water surface, with flowers and leaves mixed together, covering the clear water in the pond.

Compared to the laziness of Victoria regia and the flat surface of water lilies, the dragon (palm) and banyan trees on the shore look like sturdy warriors, protecting the "jewelry girls" around them. The weeping fig and bodhi fig are majestic and tall, standing between heaven and earth, with broad crowns that block out the sun; the roots are coiled like a dragon; the aerial roots are intertwined, and from a distance they look like long beards fluttering in the wind. In the water and on the shore, one stands and the other is flat, complementing each other, and the beauty is amazing. The Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is very beautiful and worth a visit. I feel that the planning of the park is quite perfect. It is the largest botanical garden in China with the richest collection of species and the most plant-specific parks. It can be exaggerated to say that there are scenery everywhere. The camera is absolutely beautiful. I think you must come to this place to see it when you come to Xishuangbanna. It is recommended to visit in the morning because it is hot in the afternoon. If you visit the West District, you can spend about four hours to stroll around and immerse yourself in it. If you are in a hurry, take a battery car for about 2 hours. The East District is large, so you need to have enough time.

We arrived at the botanical garden at around 9:20. It was drizzling and the ground was wet. I was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and a skin jacket and was shivering from the cold.

The botanical garden is really big. I entered the garden at around 9 o'clock and walked until around 4 o'clock. I suggest you buy a ticket for the scenic area tour bus. I didn't take the bus or the tour guide, so I walked a lot of unnecessary and repeated roads. Of course, I also walked all the marked attractions and unmarked remote routes.

I didn't see any ripe bananas, but there were many fruit trees. It seemed that these could be picked. See the guides written by previous people.

Many flowers have not bloomed in this season, especially orchids. By the way, the suspension bridge is actually a very stable iron bridge. I even walked around it to take a look. I thought it was a shaking bridge.

There are many supply points in the scenic area, so you don’t need to bring dry food.

The Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is divided into two areas: the East and West.

The West District is more developed and has a larger area, so you must visit the West District.

There are shuttle buses in both areas to travel between various small attractions.

The first attraction when entering the park is this lotus pond. You can spend a whole day taking photos around this place.

November is not the season when large lotus flowers bloom, but that cannot stop the freshness of this pond.

On the other side of the lotus pond is a palm grove.

But the Hundred Flowers Garden is very large and it is easy to find a place without people. Children like the plant maze in the Hundred Flowers Garden. The Exotic Flowers Garden has dancing grass, pitcher plants, mimosa, etc. If you come in winter, the dancing grass will not move until after 3 pm. The National Tree Garden is not interesting. Others such as the Banyan Garden, the Hundred Bamboo Garden, the Arboretum, the Cycad Garden, etc., have fewer people and also have a rainforest feel. The Botanical Garden is the most beautiful in April and May, but even if you come in winter like me, you can still see a lot of flowers. The East District includes the Tropical Rainforest and the Green Stone Forest Scenic Area. There are fewer people in the Tropical Rainforest and it feels great. There are more people in the Green Stone Forest, and you have to climb the mountain, and the experience is not as good as the tropical rainforest. In addition, a night tour is especially recommended, where the guide takes you to the Botanical Garden at night to find insects and watch the stars. Children especially like this activity. There is a night tour reservation phone number on the Botanical Garden's official account. If it is the peak season, you need to book a few weeks in advance. The Botanical Garden ticket is only valid for one day (if you go to the Botanical Garden during the day, you don't need to buy another ticket for the night tour that night). We had to buy new tickets the next day. The battery car can be purchased separately for the West District and the East District. We went to the East District the next day and only bought the battery car ticket for the East District. We had to walk to the West District and East District transfer station to take the East District battery car. The journey was not as far as imagined. We walked and strolled from the west gate to the transfer station, which was okay. If you want to go to the tropical rain forest, you have to tell the battery car driver. If you don't tell him, he will directly drag you to the Green Stone Forest Scenic Area.

This place is also quite far from the city, and it is super big inside, with various ways to play. You can sign up for the kind of in-depth tour and night tour with professional explanations. For a layman like me, just following the circle and seeing all kinds of plants is enough to open my eyes. The tour guide also did the full explanation, which was not easy. I was so excited at the time that I forgot everything when I came out. I suggest watching Man and Nature repeatedly, haha. This botanical garden should be visited by most tourists who come to Xishuangbanna. It is indeed worth a visit, but it was too hot that day and I didn't want to visit it later. On the contrary, the tour guide brother has to explain so professionally every time, which is not easy!

As a 5A scenic spot, the environment is very satisfactory. It is one of my favorite attractions in our trip to Banna. The view is wide and the plants are everywhere. You can take big pictures at will. The botanical garden is very large, so you must buy an electric car. The main ticket plus the electric car of the West Garden is 125 yuan/person, and the whole garden needs another 50 yuan. There are 4 stations in the West Garden, and the East Garden is a more primitive forest park with 2 stations. If you only visit the West Garden, it will take about 3-4 hours, and the whole garden will take 5-6 hours. However, the scenery is similar. You will be very tired after visiting the West Garden. If you are not particularly interested in plants and forests, the West Garden is enough to play.

I booked the night tour about two weeks in advance. If you book it a few days in advance, you won't be able to book it. The customer service said that they would call and add WeChat to pay at noon on the same day, but they didn't add it at noon on the same day. I took the initiative to contact them and they immediately added my WeChat. 300 yuan for 5 people was paid by WeChat. We met at 8 o'clock. The tour guide suggested that we wear long sleeves and long pants, but it was a bit stuffy because of the rain, so we wore long pants instead of long sleeves.

Tickets purchased online cannot be used the next day, so you have to buy them at the ticket gate and you can enter the next day with your payment receipt.

Our tour guide, who is a Dai, will use a flashlight to show us the insects.

There are relatively fewer fireflies in July. The tour guide said that you can see groups of fireflies in May and June, but I am satisfied to see them. Fireflies with one light strip are female, and those with two light strips are male.

After arriving at the scenic spot, we first took a battery car to tour the west area. The first stop was the Victoria amazonica where Ma Yun stood to take pictures. It was not the right season now, so we could not stand on it. Later, we visited several areas in turn, listening to the guide's explanation while visiting. There were many tropical plants that we had never seen before, which was quite interesting. The hot air balloon area was very suitable for taking pictures, but no one was riding it when we arrived.



There is a restaurant at the transfer point between the West District and the East District. There are some simple meals here, such as hot and sour noodles, grilled sausages, etc., which can be used for a simple lunch. More tourists choose to bring their own dry food, and there are seats for rest at the transfer point. After lunch, take an electric car to the Green Stone Forest in the East District. As I said in the first chapter, the Green Stone Forest is just a mountain climbing in my opinion. The scenery is average and there is nothing to see. Then take an electric car to the Valley Rain Forest in the East District. Here you can follow the guide to walk around and see some wonders of the rainforest. The journey is not far and it is suitable for all ages.



The tree in the fourth picture below is a Tetraspermum truncatum. Its trunk base extends out some huge wing-like structures, shaped like board walls. These are large board roots, which are spectacular. The first picture shows the common plant strangulation phenomenon in tropical rainforests. This tree has been strangled. In the botanical garden, you can also see different landscapes in the early, middle and late stages of strangulation. The second picture shows a plant growing on another plant, which is very interesting. In the third picture, when I took a photo with my mobile phone, the phone automatically identified it as a "waterfall", which is indeed a waterfall of the tree. These photos are just the tip of the iceberg of the wonders of the tropical rainforest. I really recommend following the guide and listening carefully to the explanation to visit the original tropical rainforest. It will definitely be an eye-opener.

On the first day in Banna, I chose the [Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences] route. After all, I have studied landscape design for 4 years and have a familiarity with trees, flowers and plants. Especially when I came to the botanical garden in the tropics, I could see many rare plants that I had only seen in textbooks before.

There are also shuttle buses to the Botanical Garden at the north gate of Gaozhuang. The information I checked said that the Botanical Garden is very large. I was worried that my visit would not be scientific and reasonable, and I would take too many detours and waste time. In the end, I chose to join a one-day tour with a group.

The Botanical Garden is divided into two parts, the East and West. You can choose whether to take the electric car (you definitely have to, you can't walk). The West District (pictured below) is an exclusive protection area classified by plant families, such as Gramineae, aquatic plants, Palms, vines, etc. There is a relatively fixed tour route for the scenic area bus. You can take a bus to play for a while, and then take a bus to the next stop. The East District is mainly based on the protection of the original tropical rainforest. The plants in it are no longer classified by family, retaining the original tropical growth environment, and the area is also larger. So if you want to have fun, it will take at least half a day. If you are interested, you can also stay in the only hotel in the Botanical Garden, "Wanglian Hotel".

I have seen netizens recommend the night tour of the Botanical Garden before, and I also experienced it this time. The fee is 300 yuan for a tour guide for less than 5 people, and then you need to pay for the tickets separately. If you don't visit the daytime ticket, you can still use it the next day. If it rains and the activity is cancelled, the fee can be refunded.

The night tour is all on foot, and it is very physically demanding for families with children, because they basically have to hold their children all the way. The tour guide only uses a flashlight to explain everything he sees. This is really attractive for children living in the city.

I saw all kinds of small insects at night, birds sleeping together, and the national first-class protected animal giant gecko. I also saw diamonds (spiders) all over the ground, flashing fireflies, and a sky full of stars.

The night tour was also a big challenge for the children. In the end, they were unable to watch the entire show and were carried back to the hotel by their father.

A must-see attraction in Xishuangbanna, but if you go to Wangtianshu, you can skip this place. Wangtianshu is far away but more authentic. There are many artificial ones here, but it is also a must-see place.

When you step into the botanical garden, a vibrant green world appears before your eyes, with lush trees, green grass, and gorgeous flowers. It is beautiful and magical. Looking around, there are tall trees and scattered shrubs everywhere. Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden is worth a visit!

This is the essence of Xishuangbanna. I didn't take any photos here. But I visited here three times. You should go there more often. The food is not very delicious. I think the food is still in Mangshi. But it is lively.

A must-visit place when you arrive in Xishuangbanna. It is recommended to go during the day!

If possible, it is best to stay at the only Wanglian Hotel in the park, which will be very convenient for you to visit.

The Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is almost one of the must-visit places for tourists to Xishuangbanna. There are a lot of people, but when I went there in February, the flowers were not in bloom. I suggest you go when the flowers are in full bloom, then it will be beautiful.

People from Northeast China can go and see it because there are not many plants in Northeast China, but people from the South will definitely regret it! ! ! It is the most disappointing attraction I have in Banna!

1. Tickets are super expensive! We arrived at 3pm. I read in the guide that tickets for the East and West Districts are 50 yuan each. We only wanted to visit the West District, but the ticket seller said that no matter which district you enter, you have to buy an 80 yuan ticket. Because we don’t have enough time, we can only take a battery car to visit the West District, which is 130 yuan per person! I checked online and the lowest price is 124 yuan! Think about it, if it is a national-level scenic spot, a botanical garden costs 130 yuan. It is big inside, but it is big and empty. It is not as good as the Xiamen Botanical Garden (ticket is 30 yuan). For students, if they take a battery car, it costs 90 yuan per person. How can a scenic spot that popularizes knowledge for the people be so expensive? ? There are very few people. It is not the peak season and the park closes on time at 6 o'clock. You can't take the battery car. It gets dark later in Banna at night. It doesn't get dark until 7:30. It happened to be very cool at that time. It was very hot before. Why can't it be 7 o'clock?

The West District was visited on foot for 4 hours, and the East District was visited by electric car for almost 1 hour. It was quite a good deal to visit both districts while keeping the physical strength under control. The ticket was 80 yuan, and the East District electric car was 50 yuan, which was more reasonable than the package price.

This is the most amazing attraction in my trip to Xishuangbanna. Because I went to the Rainforest Valley before, I gave up the east area for hiking and only visited the west area. Of course, the ants are also quite big. When walking, try to avoid some fruit-bearing trees, because the fruits are all covered with big red or black ants. When returning to Jinghong, you can wait directly at the West Garden Gate, and there will be a bus to pick you up there. Or you can go out from the suspension bridge and take a bus back to Menglun Town Bus Station. This road is not far, and you can also buy some food. I took a bus at the bus station for 23 yuan, and the gate of the garden was 25 yuan. I got off at Gaozhuang, and it should take an hour. When I went there, I bought a ticket at Jinghong Bus Station for 24 yuan, and it took one and a half hours.

The huge botanical garden has all kinds of exotic flowers and plants that you can't imagine. There are flower gardens, palm gardens, etc. The Victoria amazonica is a special feature that starts to bloom in early August. Children can also sit on it, but they have to pay extra. The scenery in the scenic area couldn't be better, I like it very much.

The area is full of various pictographic rocks and lush rainforests, forming a rare spectacle of "forest above and stone forest below", so it is called "Green Stone Forest".

The Green Stone Forest Scenic Area is the original habitat of many rare and endangered animals, such as the double-horned hornbill, gray leaf monkey, peak monkey, gibbon, etc. It also has rich tropical orchid resources. It is a demonstration base for the return and comprehensive protection of these rare and endangered animals and plants.

In the botanical garden, there is a small pavilion next to the museum on the left hand side when you get off the electric car at the first stop. There are many students sketching in the small pavilion.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences is about an hour's drive from the city. In fact, most friends recommend taking a tour bus, but the number of tourists during the Chinese New Year... everyone knows! So we walked in.

How can you miss the only 5A-level scenic spot in Xishuangbanna? The scenic area is divided into two parks, the East and the West. Because the area is too large, tourists must take a battery car. Most of the West Park is artificially transplanted and trimmed, so it is very beautiful and the best place to take pictures. The play time is about 3 hours. The ticket for the botanical garden is 104, and the battery car is 50. The price is a little expensive, but it is worth visiting.
