Wild Elephant Valley

Here's my guide to watching elephants: I bought a round-trip ticket to the Wild Elephant Valley from the Xishuangjing North Gate Tourist Service Center one day in advance for 70 yuan, and the ticket from Fliggy for 52 yuan.

After entering, I walked on the plank road by myself. It was 2,280 meters long and there were not many steps. It was easy to walk. I only heard a roar when I went there, but I didn't see it. When I reached the top and just returned, I was lucky enough to see a family of more than 20 wild elephants. In addition, I saw a few monkeys on the two viewing platforms. The whole journey took only 1 and a half hours. Finally, I watched the elephant show near the South Gate and returned to Gaozhuang at 12:50.

The specific season and time for viewing are unclear, and I don't know whether I can see it by cable car. I personally don't think it's necessary to take the cable car. The cable car costs 50 one-way and 70 round-trip.

Finally, if you want to see wild elephants, just stroll along the plank road.

The South Gate entrance is reasonable, the only drawback is that there is no place to park. I looked for it a few hundred meters to the right of the road and parked where the elephants were crossing... Enter from the South Gate and take a one-way cable car. It is worth taking it. Don't take a two-way trip. The observatory saw a herd of elephants at 11 am, which was worth the ticket price. I walked with my children for an hour and a half to walk back to the elephant school. The performance was average. Feeding 20 yuan is not expensive.

I went to Manzhang Village in the morning and came to Wild Elephant Valley in the afternoon. The chartered car for the two places cost 200 yuan + toll fee 36 yuan.

I was lucky enough to see a group of wild elephants. In fact, the chance of seeing wild elephants on the cable car is not high, as they are almost blocked by the jungle. It is better to walk on the plank road. However, if you are walking with the elderly, you can still take the cable car, which is more labor-saving and convenient.

There is really not much to eat in the Wild Elephant Valley, and it is expensive and not tasty. A bowl of instant noodles costs 15, but this price is understandable in the scenic area.

The wild elephant show was quite interesting, but I also felt sorry for the elephants. The elephants in this elephant school were thin and seemed to have skin injuries or something.

There are two gates in the Wild Elephant Valley, one in the north and one in the south.



If you enter from the south gate, you must first walk along the first phase of the plank road, which is more than 900 meters long, and then walk along the second phase of the plank road, which is more than 1,300 meters long. The total length of the one-way plank road is nearly 2,300 meters.



Entering from the north gate is equivalent to reaching the middle of the park directly and directly to the second phase of the plank road.



There is a cable car in the scenic area that goes directly to the top of the observatory. If you take the cable car, you have to take it at the South Gate, and you can take the cable car up and walk back. However, according to the staff of the scenic area, it takes about two hours to queue up for the cable car because there are only two seats in a cable car.



We entered from the north gate and walked along the plank road towards the observatory, taking the second phase of the plank road, which was about 1,300 meters long.



Because we had children with us, we did not go to the first phase of the plank road, but only hiked back and forth on the second phase of the plank road. The total tour took about 2 hours.

I came to the Wild Elephant Valley during the Spring Festival. Although there were many people, there were also many wild elephants. I was lucky to see a group of wild elephants after walking for a while. The wild elephants were not afraid of people and even walked under the plank road where people walked to find food. During the Spring Festival, there were too many people taking the cable car and they had to call numbers. So I gave up the cable car and walked the whole way. However, the air was very good and comfortable walking in the primeval forest. Finally, I arrived at the south gate and watched the elephant show while eating. If you take the cable car, you can take a one-way trip. You can walk up and sit down, or sit down and walk up. You can also choose to walk back and forth. It is not far, just over two kilometers one way.

I personally have always been against animal performances, fearing that it would be unfair to them to keep them in captivity, but after watching the videos posted by the keepers of the Xishuangbanna Elephant School on TikTok, I found them quite funny and wanted to see them. In the end, I asked the staff, and they said that they have changed to collars now, as elephants are very smart.

The park is quite large, the restrooms are clean, and I saw a wild white-cheeked gibbon begging for food as I walked up the mountain. I didn't see any wild elephants, and I didn't have enough time to take the cable car. I think the elephant meal is worth a try, it's all fruits and vegetables, but it tastes good. There is a show on the right hand side of the entrance, it's just so-so.

The filming location of Dad, Where Are We Going? It is said that the probability of seeing wild elephants during the day is very small, but you can see the footprints of wild elephants clearly on the plank road of the Wild Elephant Valley. It is said that it is the dry season now, and wild elephants will come down to drink water at night, so they will leave footprints.

Before going to the Wild Elephant Valley, there will be an elephant show. When I saw these elephants, I was not happy at all. I felt that they were particularly pitiful. They had to roll people up with their trunks, be ridden, and be trained in various ways. Looking at their stupid looks, I really felt very sorry for them. I felt that they were not happy at all.

Looking down from the plank road in the Wild Elephant Valley, you can see a river and the footprints of wild elephants.

The scenery is beautiful, there are many elephants but they are all domesticated. I took the round trip cable car, but I didn't see any wild elephants. I was unlucky. The one-way cable car takes about 30 minutes.

The elephant show was wonderful, and there was even a painting session for the elephants, but I felt a little sorry for the elephants. There was an elephant feeding session before and after the show, and elephant riding and taking photos.

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is located in the Mengyangzi Nature Reserve of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, 22 kilometers away from Jinghong City. It is China's first national park with the theme of animal protection and environmental protection. The environment is very good, and it feels like a primitive forest everywhere. Look for traces of wild elephants on the high plank road. There are several gardens, butterflies, snakes, lizards, monkeys, birds, and elephant performances, which are quite rich in content. I didn't see herds of wild elephants. I only encountered one that was rescued and then trained in the wild. I was very lucky, after all, it was a wild elephant before.

Most people come to watch the elephant show, feed the elephants and take pictures. Wild elephants should not be seen now. You can walk on the plank road or take the cable car to the rainforest to herd elephants and get close to them. The elephants in the park look thin and not in good spirits. It feels very pitiful. The animal performances are also very cruel. You have to buy a fruit plate to enter the place where you feed the elephants. The small one is 20 yuan and the big one is 60 yuan. There are also some animals such as butterflies, peacocks, parrots, and a few not-so-exciting performances. Overall, it is a bit of a tasteless scenic spot.

If you just want to see elephants, you can go to the Wild Elephant Valley. If you want to watch a show, please refuse. I have read some knowledge about the domestication of elephants, which is extremely cruel. Later, I checked the detailed guide and learned that the Wild Elephant Valley has a project called "Rainforest Elephant Herding", which is to walk a distance in the rainforest with the elephants with the keepers. The keepers will explain the knowledge about elephants and you can have close contact with the elephants, not sitting on their backs or on their noses, but just getting close to them. Friends who hope to go to the Wild Elephant Valley can choose this project. At worst, choose to feed the elephants, don't watch their performances like us.

First: There was not a single wild elephant and none of us tourists saw one

Tips: It's a scam for tourists

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is located in a place called Sanchahe, north of Mengyang Town, Jinghong City. It is located in the south of Mengyang Nature Reserve, about 50 kilometers away from the capital of Jinghong City, and the transportation is very convenient. Wild Elephant Valley is named after the wild elephants. The total area is about 370 hectares, with a construction area of ​​more than 2,800 square meters and a water area of ​​8,000 square meters. However, if you can encounter a wild elephant at present, it is definitely harder than winning a million-dollar jackpot.

It was a pity that we didn’t see wild elephants, but the elephants in the elephant school were very cute.

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is located in the Mengyangzi Nature Reserve of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, 22 kilometers away from Jinghong City. It is China's first national park with the theme of animal protection and environmental protection.

We went from Gaozhuang to the Wild Elephant Valley, which took about 20-30 minutes by car. It is recommended that you set off early. We set off at 7 o'clock. It was not hot at that time. We went directly to the scenic area to buy the cable car ticket to the mountain. It is not recommended to buy a round trip. The cable car takes about 30 minutes. At first I thought it was a joke, but it really took 30 minutes. It was very long. When we arrived, we went down to the oval observatory below. The staff inside was very enthusiastic and told us that you came at the right time. You can see wild elephants in April and May this year. As expected, we saw wild elephants. Be careful not to make noise when you see wild elephants, otherwise they will scare them away. There are no pictures taken by the camera on the phone. After watching, you can go down, you can see the elephant library, and then you can go to see the elephant show. I think the elephants are very pitiful, so I didn't go. You can ask the ticket office and they will plan the time for you. It is best to buy tickets directly at the ticket office.

Don't take the cable car. This attraction is so boring.

There is no shuttle bus to the Wild Elephant Valley at the bus station. I ran from Gaozhuang to the bus station and then ran back before I could get on the bus. There is a large bus at the Gaozhuang Tourism Service Center, which costs 35 yuan per person.

We went to see wild elephants, but we waited too long for the cable car.

Whether you want to see wild elephants depends on their mood. We didn't see any, but we saw a few wild monkeys. The elephant show at the end was quite interesting.

Overall it's very average. First of all, it's a design problem. After going up the cableway, people usually don't take the cableway down again. You can only walk down. It's really far. Although it's called the Elephant Observation Plank Road, it's really hard to see wild elephants. You can only see the big trees on both sides. Of course, the air is very good. As for the elephant show, it's really interesting, but it's equivalent to walking so far just to watch an elephant show. It's really not worth taking such a long car ride. I didn't see any wild monkeys. But one thing is that the cableway ride is only 50 yuan for more than half an hour, which is really cheap. In general, I suggest that friends just watch the elephants in Mengting, and don't go here.

I bought a one-way cable car ticket without thinking. The wild elephants in the Wild Elephant Valley are active at night and do not hide during the day. You can only see footprints. But the students of the Elephant School are still cute.

The South Gate is full of cars. Go around to the North Gate. The ticket is 60 yuan, and children and senior citizens are free. You need to take the cable car (40 yuan one way) and 50 yuan round trip. The staff here introduced that there is a special elephant ride, 280 yuan (one adult and one child), about an hour of jungle riding and close contact

The most memorable things about the Wild Elephant Valley are the elephant performances and the white-cheeked gibbons we saw while walking on the plank road. As the name suggests, you can see wild elephants in the Wild Elephant Valley! However, whether you can see them or not depends entirely on fate. Although we didn’t see wild elephants, the performances of the elephants in the Elephant School were still awesome. After the show started, the host asked the elephants to complete a series of actions: raising the national flag, saluting, sitting upright, using their trunks to hula hoop, selecting school beauties, using their trunks to throw darts to pierce balloons, playing football, etc. The elephant show was over in about thirty minutes. You can take photos with the elephants at the Elephant School for 30 yuan per person. The staff will let the elephants use their trunks to roll you up for photos.

You can see pythons at the entrance of Wild Elephant Valley and take photos with them. There is a butterfly garden and a bird garden further in. Going down from the bird garden is the plank road. It is the best place to see wild elephants here, so you can pay attention to both sides of the plank road when you are playing. It was on this plank road that we met a little monkey - a white-cheeked gibbon.

The Butterfly Garden and the Bird Garden are pretty good. The butterflies are all very big, but there are really few birds in the Bird Garden. The Elephant School is also good, and the performances are wonderful!

There is nothing special. There is a bird park with many birds. The butterfly valley is also a shed with many butterflies and lizards. There are only a few snakes. There are two plank roads. You can't see any wild elephants at all.

The huge and cute cat was working hard and well-behaved to show all kinds of cuteness. It caused a lot of laughter. I came to Banna for three days. To be honest, it was not until that day that I saw faces from all over the world and the crowded scene. I was so excited that I couldn't help but squeeze into the crowd. I finally felt like I was in a tourist area.

Looking for wild elephants. Under the plank road, you can see many huge elephant feet and vegetation trampled by wild elephants, but no wild elephants. According to the elephant ranger, there are only 300 wild elephants in the country, 280 of which are in Yunnan and 100 in the Wild Elephant Valley in Banna. Now it is the rainy season, and there are many water drinking points for wild elephants. Now it is estimated that wild elephants will only appear here once every three to four days. Well, we don't need to regret this kind of thing that can only be encountered but not sought. Let a gibbon that suddenly appears become our new source of happiness.

It's worth it, the butterfly garden is really good! Generally speaking, you can't see wild elephants. If you are lucky, you may see two or three by the river. The elephant school is particularly exciting. Some elephants can paint, some can play football, and some can even pick beauties (*＾ワ＾*). It is recommended not to take the cable car up and down, because many of the original scenery of the tropical rainforest along the way cannot be seen. It is best to take the cable car up the mountain and then walk down the mountain. In this way, you may see wild elephants. If you don't see wild elephants, you will see wild monkeys, wild squirrels and other wild animals, just like us. When you walk down the mountain, you can see the real scenery of the tropical rainforest, which is more beautiful than the original forest park. It's worth a visit. You only need to buy one ticket to enter. There's nothing to do with taking the cable car or seeing wild elephants. The farther you go, the farther you have to walk back. You can just watch the performances in various venues and the surrounding rainforest. There's no need to take the cable car. You can't see anything. It costs an extra 70 yuan. It's even more burdensome to buy a round-trip cable car. You can't see anything. After sitting back, you have to walk to see the performance. It costs more money and time!

The Wild Elephant Valley is actually worth a visit. Not only are there elephant performances, but you can also see wild elephants. Both the elderly and children like it very much.

The Wild Elephant Valley is not big. There is one path up and one path down, so you won’t get lost.

The elephant school is actually just about watching elephant performances, but the elephant performances are cleverly incorporated into the class sessions.

The Wild Elephant Valley is actually a park that uses wild elephants as a gimmick. In addition to the Elephant Academy, there are some other small gardens in the Wild Elephant Valley: Lizard and Snake Garden, Butterfly Garden, Bird Garden... There are no wild elephants in the Wild Elephant Valley, only performances by domesticated elephants, which are full of routines. It costs money to ride elephants, feed elephants, and take pictures... Using elephants to make money, I hope this money is used to help these animals... The same goes for parrots, parrot performances, and taking pictures for money...

In addition to these gardens, I encountered a few monkeys on the way, which was quite interesting. A white-cheeked gibbon swung down from a tree to drink water, picked up an apple core from the trash can, and swung back. Two slow lorises lay leisurely on a tree and slept, looking very lovable.

We didn't take the cable car because many people said that there was nothing to see except the trees for half an hour. We didn't walk the trail because it was too tiring. There were many stairs and the elderly and children couldn't walk. The route we played was the snake garden-bird garden-butterfly garden-elephant show. Why was it in this order? It was almost 10 o'clock when we arrived. If we rushed to watch the 10 o'clock show, we couldn't get a good seat. Although the butterfly garden is in front of the bird garden, the chartered driver said that there are more butterflies at noon when it is hot, so we went to the bird garden first after visiting the snake garden!

The main purpose is to see elephants. There is an elephant school where you can watch elephant performances. There is a show at around 11:30 at noon and also in the afternoon, but I didn't pay attention to the time.

The tour route is as follows: after entering the main gate, turn right and visit the plant area, butterfly garden, and bird garden. There is also a parrot show in the bird garden, which starts as long as there are 30 people. There is a cable car in the bird garden that can reach the place where wild elephants live. However, there are very few wild elephants when you go there. It is said that wild elephants appear frequently around the Spring Festival, so you can try your luck.

The cable car ride is quite long, and it is open-air, about 20 minutes one way. There is not much scenery along the way, just green trees and blue sky. Then take the same cable car back, walk back to the elephant school, and start the elephant show. The show is quite exciting. In addition to the usual football kicking and nose hula hoop, there is also painting, which is really good.

If you are lucky, you may encounter wild elephants. Since it is a wild elephant rescue park, the ecological environment is very good and the air is rare and fresh.

The elephant show here is similar to the one in Dalian Zoo, except that the elephants here can draw, and they draw better than I can.

When watching the elephant show, everyone was sitting down, but some elderly people in front of them always stood up.

The six of us hired the inn's car, watched an elephant show, and touched a python. We felt a little uncomfortable with hiring a car because the driver and tour guide always urged us to hurry up and visit more attractions, but children are not like adults. They just want to play in one place for half a day. The most important thing for us to come out is to relax and play. As for how many attractions to visit, everything is up to us. So everyone felt that the first day was not fun enough, so they decided not to hire a car on the second day and take a taxi by themselves. You can make your own decisions on your own time.

It turns out that it’s cheaper to take a taxi yourself!

The scenic spot is not far from Xishuangbanna, and the ticket price is acceptable. Whether you can see wild elephants depends on your luck. The folk song and dance performances and the elephant school are worth seeing. Arrange your visit time and don't miss it.

They are probably well-trained elephants. They can do almost anything. After the performance, the trainer will give them a banana.

The staff at the park also gave each elephant a name. They would come to you with a small basket to ask for money. If you gave them money, you could take some bananas to feed them, and you could also take a photo with them...

I was really fooled by the name... I thought I could see elephants in the jungle at any time. Later I realized that seeing elephants depends on luck, which is similar to winning the lottery, and even if you see one, it is still full of danger. I didn't see any elephants, but I did see a lot of little monkeys:)

The performance was average. It was similar to other places, but better than Manting Park.

The cable car is really far away, and it takes 5 miles to walk down. The scenery on the road is okay, a little worse than that of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but the viewing path on the way back is very new, much newer than the East District of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. I heard a lot of animal calls on the cable car, which were very far away, but very clear. The valley is really quiet.

On the way back, we saw a group of wild elephants in a distant pond.

There are few species in the butterfly house, the bird park allows you to get very close to the birds, and the lizard house has a big python! !

Banna is a worthwhile place to visit. The attractions in Banna are far apart, but I recommend going to the Wild Elephant Valley, which is more worth visiting than the Wild Botanical Garden. Because it is winter, many plants are gone. There are also fewer butterflies, and there are not many animals in the Bird Park. The most regrettable thing is that I didn't see wild elephants. So, the ladies and brothers who go there must seize the time to see the wild elephants. When we arrived at the observation deck, we could only take a look at the elephant shit and then went back.

The main thing is the various elephant shows. The chance of seeing wild elephants is small, but wild monkeys are running all over the mountains.

In fact, I really don't like seeing animals being domesticated like this. Their "wild" genes cannot be expressed, and they are locked up in cages for their entire lives. The older I get, the more I feel that zoos are places that children should not go to. They are basically prisons for animals and an unreasonable existence.

Wild Elephant Valley is a very suitable place to bring children, with primitive forests, elephant shows, wild gibbons and macaques.

The construction of the scenic area is like the old park in the early years. The elephant performance is pitiful. There is no harm without buying and selling. Tell me, would the elephant prefer the freedom of being deprived of food and clothing in the wild mountains or being abused and well-fed?

I just hope that the Elephant School is no longer a place for humans to entertain elephants. If we want to truly protect them and their living environment, we should educate humans to understand elephants themselves and respect them. I also want to complain about the Elephant Kiss awarded to the school beauty of the Elephant School. Did they ask the girl if she was willing? It's ridiculous that you have to accept it if you are selected. So let it be.

I saw a short film about elephant training in Thailand a long time ago. It exposed the various cruel methods used on elephants in the process of training them for riding. After watching the film, everyone said that they would never ride an elephant again.



So I chose to come to the Wild Elephant Valley, thinking that I would see groups of unrestrained elephants and baby elephants living freely. However, after walking on the plank road for an hour, I didn’t see any wild elephants, only a few monkeys.



In the so-called elephant school, there are seven or eight trained elephants for tourists to ride, take pictures, feed, take pictures, perform painting, and dance. Looking at those elephants repeating the same actions every day, I feel so pitiful. There is no expression in their eyes, only numbness.



The whole valley is very small, there is really nothing to see, the lizard pond is empty, there are one or two butterflies in the butterfly garden, the rest are butterfly specimens for sale, and there are only a few unknown birds in the bird garden. Even a water lily pond is the most beautiful scenery, feel it for yourself. Overall, it is far worse than Bifengxia Wildlife Park.

I am still in Xishuangbanna. I went to the Wild Elephant Valley the day before yesterday. I was really disappointed. I strongly do not recommend going there. It is not commercialized. There are three performances in total. The first one is a bird performance, but there are trainers on both sides who let the birds fly to your hands, and then they are only allowed to take pictures of you so that they can collect money. If you take pictures yourself, they will quickly recall the birds and strictly prohibit them with an ugly face. The second one is a folk dance performance. The theater is very small. All the food and drinks are sold next to it. Basically, they are serving the sales points next to them. The last one is an elephant performance. There are some small surprises, but there are also elephant riding fees that are always going on next to it. During the performance, you can only ride an elephant in a small circle at the back of the performance venue. After the performance, you can ride a little further. It costs 80 per person. The first time I wrote this thing is because I have been playing in Xishuangbanna until now. I feel that the commercialization here is too serious and I am a little disappointed with this place. I just think the botanical garden I went to this morning is good at the moment. Let's talk about the specific botanical garden~

In general, the Wild Elephant Valley is worth going to, but the hygiene is not very good. The order of our visit yesterday was elephant show-rainforest theater-snake lizard garden-butterfly garden-bird garden-plank road-Asian elephant museum. Personally, I think the most worth seeing are elephant show, rainforest theater and Asian elephant museum. 1. Elephant show. It was very happy to watch the elephant show for the first time. I know that elephants are very smart, but I was still surprised to see them trained so cute. Although I know that elephants must have suffered a lot in training these movements, each place has its own folk customs, and the performance did provide us with joy; but riding an elephant is not recommended, at least I don’t ride an elephant myself. 2. Rainforest Theater. You can eat while watching the show here; the girls inside are very beautiful, especially the head shaking dance, which is sonorous and powerful. We all feel quite shocked. At the end of the theater, everyone will be invited to dance together. I suggest everyone to go and have fun. It is very interesting. Go out to play to let yourself go. There is no point in hiding. Go on stage bravely. 3. Snake lizard garden. I am not interested in taking pictures with pythons and animals like lizards, so I won’t comment. 4. Butterfly Garden. There are all kinds of butterflies in it, but for those of us who grew up in the countryside, we are used to seeing them, so it’s not that strange. We walked around for two minutes and then came out. There are four parts of butterfly evolution in it, and those with children can teach them about science and broaden their horizons. 5. Bird Park. It feels like I didn’t see anything, and the birds didn’t perform much. It was just a few staff members holding the birds and looking for people to take pictures one by one, and then charging them. 6. Plank Road. There are all kinds of plants on both sides of the plank road, which is worth experiencing. On the plank road, we saw macaques, gibbons, and two sloths, but they were sleeping and we didn’t see them from the front. Due to time constraints, we only walked half of the plank road. The other half said that if you are lucky, you can see wild elephants traveling. If you have enough time, it is recommended that you finish the walk. Maybe you are the lucky one who can see the wild elephants parading. 7. Asian Elephant Museum. This is the most meaningful and shocking place for me, because I prefer places like museums, and people who don't like them may find it boring; because there are only a few elephant models and a wall full of African elephant introductions, which explain the Asian elephant from all aspects, including origin, age, various organs, sexual development, human-elephant conflict, and human-elephant harmony. If you look carefully, you can understand that the Asian elephant species is one of the only two species of elephants in the world; if you come here for the first time, I suggest you take a closer look, after all, we are visiting the Wild Elephant Valley, and we should learn something when we go back.
