If Manting is the Dai King's back garden, then the Zongfo Temple is more like its soul. As soon as I stepped into the temple, I was shocked by the lifelike Buddha statues. The momentum was different from the temples I had seen before. It was even more magnificent and splendid. Listening to the chanting played over and over in the temple, I seemed to understand some of it. This ticket was really worth the trip...

Xishuangbanna General Buddhist Temple (Wabaji in Dai) is a sacred site of Theravada Buddhism in Yunnan. Founded in 615 AD, it serves as the headquarters of the Xishuangbanna Buddhist Association and a Buddhist temple of the highest rank. The main complex includes the Golden Dome Hall, the Agamuni Relic Stupa, and the Ordination Hall. The standing Buddha is a bronze statue cast in Thailand, its resplendent gilt decoration creating a unique contrast with the rattan-woven bamboo Buddha.

Historically, it served as a religious and political center for the Dai King's "Zhao Pian Ling" to hold oath-taking ceremonies and approve monk promotions. The temple houses a collection of palm leaf scriptures and other cultural relics. The second floor of the main hall houses one of the largest bronze Buddhas in Southeast Asia, consecrated by the Thai Supreme Patriarch. It is open to the public free of charge.

Its long history, coupled with the emergence of many eminent monks throughout the ages, has earned it a high reputation among Theravada Buddhists throughout Southeast Asia and is a holy place revered by believers in Xishuangbanna.

Xishuangbanna's Main Buddhist Temple is the center of Buddhist worship in Xishuangbanna and the highest-ranking of its temples. The temple boasts a majestic architecture with intricately carved beams and pillars. Key features include the Uighur Hall and the Buddhist Academy teaching building. Admission to the temple is free and connected to Manting Park (with a ticket gate at the connecting gate). Both areas can be visited separately, or as a side trip to Manting Park, entering the temple from the park. (Tickets must be checked again when returning to Manting Park from the temple.)

The Zongfo Temple is connected to Manting Park. The buildings inside are more concentrated and exquisite than those in Manting Park. Many girls took beautiful photos. I saw a white peacock spreading its tail, which was amazing.

Behind Manting Park lies the Zongfo Temple. While both are Buddhist temples, their styles differ. While the Grand Buddha Temple embodies grandeur and grandeur, the Zongfo Temple embodies refinement and elegance. Before liberation, the temple served as a sacred site for the supreme rulers and chieftains of Xishuangbanna. Even abbots of Buddhist temples from around the country would visit and discuss Buddhist teachings.

Square golden pagodas stand on both sides of the bluestone road, leading to the main hall in the middle called "Weihan". The main hall is decorated in gold, silver and red. The roof is made of purple-red tiles, the beams and walls are painted gold, and the spires are decorated with silver. The whole hall is shining with golden light, like the Buddha's light shining on all living beings.

The Dharma Protectors stand in a silver shrine. When you look closely, their faces are full of majesty, which makes people feel the solemnity and sacredness of Buddhism.

From the eaves to the railings and pagodas, every corner here offers a fascinating spectacle. Following the golden dragon handrails, we reached the second-floor Main Hall, where a bronze Buddha statue sits. This statue was cast in Thailand by Thai craftsmen and consecrated by the Thai Supreme Patriarch, with members of the Thai royal family participating in the ceremony. It is the largest bronze Buddha statue in Xishuangbanna to date, embodying the ancient and continuous transmission of Theravada Buddhism between China and Thailand.

The main hall of the Zongfo Temple is a perfect combination of traditional Dai craftsmanship and modern architectural culture. It has now become the largest and most magnificent building in the Theravada Buddhist area in the Yunnan border area.

Coming out of Manting Garden, next to it is the Zongfo Temple, which is one of the earliest temples built in Xishuangbanna. It has a history of more than 1,300 years and is called "Wabajie" in Dai language.

As with other temples, please do not make noise, take artistic photos, or wear revealing clothes when entering the lobby.

After visiting Manting Park, we exited through the back gate and arrived at the Zong Fo Temple, which didn't require an entrance fee. The temple's style was very similar to those I'd seen in Southeast Asia. It's small, so you can explore it quickly. Many visitors reenter Manting Park after their visit, so if you do, be sure to keep your Manting Park ticket. We then took a taxi back to the hotel.

The night before, I bought tickets online for Manting Park and Zongfo Temple. Both attractions are adjacent to each other, and the tickets are valid for both. I'd previously checked online and found a combined ticket for Manting Park and Zongfo Temple for 76 yuan, but when I bought the tickets, the price had changed, bringing the combined ticket to 36 yuan, saving me a lot. Then, I saw a combo ticket for Dafo Temple on another platform that was even more affordable, so I refunded my original ticket and bought a new one for all three locations. However, this ticket required manual pickup, requiring me to contact a staff member to exchange it instead of doing it myself. While this minor delay was a minor issue, the rest of the process was fine.

There are two entrances for entry. You can visit it separately, or you can enter from the direction of the park while visiting Manting Park.

The Xishuangbanna Main Buddhist Temple is said to have been built in the mid-seventh century by two Theravada Buddhist monks who came from Myanmar to spread the Dharma. It has a history of more than a thousand years and is one of the earliest Theravada Buddhist temples established in Xishuangbanna. It has a long history and profound Dharma affinity.

Approximately 700 years ago, the Xishuangbanna General Buddhist Temple was established by the Xishuangbanna Xuanwei as the highest-ranking Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna. It served as the venue for announcements of region-wide Buddhist activities, approval of promotions to senior monks, and oath-taking ceremonies for Xuanwei envoys and Meng Tusi. It was also a sacred site for the Xishuangbanna Xuanwei and his subordinate Meng Tusi leaders to worship Buddha, and for Buddhist temples from around the country to preside over pilgrimages. Due to its long history and the numerous eminent monks it has produced, it enjoys a high reputation among Theravada Buddhists throughout Southeast Asia and is revered by all believers in Xishuangbanna.

Please forgive me for using the word "beautiful" to describe a temple. The buildings inside are really beautiful. They are not very big. If you walk quickly, you can walk through them in ten minutes. But they are really beautiful.

From the west to the east, you can reach Manting Park. There is no entrance fee to the temple. As for the scenery, it is quite unique.

By China-TravelNote users |

The building is exquisite and very stunning.

The Buddhist temple behind Manting Park is small in scale, but has a strong historical charm. There is no entrance fee. It is said that there are more locals there. It is connected to Manting Park. The scenery is not big and there are not many people. It is high up on the mountainside, with holy water and a white pagoda. I think it is a must-see attraction. It is located in the center of Jinghong City, about one kilometer next to the Splashing Water Square.

By Nagashino |

The building is very grand, and the Buddha statues have local characteristics, which are different from the Buddha statues in the mainland that are more like those in Thailand.

The Zongfo Temple is free to visit and is adjacent to Manting Park. It's small and compact, with the temple in the park and the park in the temple. It's very quiet, perhaps because we've missed the peak season. It feels great, like a temple should be...

The General Buddhist Temple is the center for Buddhists to worship Buddha in Xishuangbanna. The temple is located in a rectangular courtyard with the gate opening at the west end of the north side.

Nowadays, Buddhists still regard this temple as a holy place for worshipping Buddha. There are many pilgrims and tourists who come here to visit.

By Yang Shuhan-YOUNG |

The Zongfo Temple is located at the north gate of Manting Park, and you can also enter from Manting Park. It is not the main gate after all, but there are two different plaques hanging on both sides of the gate.

Walking into the Zong Fo Temple is like walking into a temple in Thailand.

The tall coconut palm trees are set against the blue sky, white clouds and golden roof, which is extremely beautiful.

Behind the main hall is a courtyard with a central Buddhist hall. Its red tiles and golden Buddha statues shimmer in the sunlight, a typical example of Theravada Buddhist architecture. This hall boasts a rich history: it was built in collaboration with Buddhist believers in Thailand, with a 260,000 RMB donation from the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 72nd birthday.

On the right side of the Buddhist hall are the monks’ offices and dormitories.

In front of the main hall of the Zongfo Temple stands a golden statue of Sakyamuni, seemingly three stories high, but actually only two. The upper portion of the hall is a Dai-style wooden structure, with a thatched roof and four eaves. Having visited many places, I've noticed that Dai architecture typically has four eaves, perhaps representing the highest level of elegance. The lower portion of the hall is a concrete frame structure, with a large, wraparound terrace and steps on either side.

I don't recommend staying in Manting Park; it's too remote. Behind Manting Park is the Zongfo Temple, a small, beautiful temple. No entrance fee required. There were quite a few people burning incense inside. The last pagoda is inside Manting Park.

In addition to its rich tropical rainforest and other plant resources, Xishuangbanna is also full of graceful ethnic customs and dazzling exotic architectural features. The Zongfo Temple can be entered directly from Manting Park without additional entrance fees. The Zongfo Temple is magnificent and has a more pious Buddhist atmosphere.

The Zongfo Temple is the headquarters of Theravada Buddhism in the Southern Taiwan. It is the center of all the large and small Buddhist temples in the state. The strong Buddhist atmosphere makes you feel more pious when you enter here. The temple is small and not very touristy, which makes it more suitable for pious worship.

I was staying at the K2 Youth Hostel next door, and had originally planned to get up early to see the empty Buddhist temple, but I was woken up by the sounds of people getting up before my time. I found that I had caught up with the ordination ceremony for young monks. Nearly two hundred young men were being ordained as young monks. Such a large-scale ceremony was particularly spectacular.

In the Dai people's concept, a man is considered educated only if he has stayed in a temple, so the Dai people will send their children to the temple to let them live a life away from the world for a while.

Xishuangbanna's Main Buddhist Temple is a central point of Buddhist pilgrimage, making it a must-see on any trip to the city. While its footprint is modest, it's considerably smaller than the mountainous temples dotted across the landscape. However, upon entering, the temple is a breathtaking spectacle, and the devout worshippers radiate a vibrant aroma of incense. As a signature indoor attraction in Xishuangbanna, a visit is a must.

No entrance fee is required to visit the Main Buddhist Temple, and you can even enter the Grand Buddha Temple in the center. You'll need to buy your own incense and other items. It's a fairly large temple. Walking from the temple leads to the back entrance of Manting Park. Tickets to Manting Park cost 43 yuan on Meituan. Whether it's worth it depends on your experience, but I think it's quite good. There are Dai architecture and a small Dai palace. The restrooms are located right at the main entrance!

The temple is small but majestic. It is connected to Manting and is very popular. You can ask for divination sticks without spending any money. Just donate some money for merit and you will feel at ease. I think it is good to come here just to see the temple. Among the Buddhist temples in downtown Xishuangbanna, we highly recommend the Xishuangbanna Main Buddhist Temple, located just behind Manting Park. Besides being free, the sight of this magnificent temple, gleaming against the blue sky of southern Yunnan, is a visual feast. The intricately carved, lifelike guardian deities are also worth savoring. Like tireless children, we lingered on every step of the temple, our longing eyes slowly glancing over the beautiful golden murals. Luckily, before leaving, we witnessed a group of yellow-robed monks coming to the temple to admire the scenery. The gradually darkening sky, though devoid of the fiery sunset glow, was shrouded in a round, yellow-orange, sparkling sunset that deeply moved us.
