The large sign on the roadside is a distribution map of the Yi Ancient Town.
Dejiang City Tower is the eastern entrance to the ancient town. The water features a beautiful streetscape, but the water is too shallow and not very clean. The main gate of the Yi Ancient Town boasts a large memorial archway. The streets are lined with shops, but unfortunately, they are sparsely populated. This square, located in the heart of the town, is the venue for the evening Torch Festival. Torch-shaped decorations are everywhere. At nightfall, local staff dressed in traditional Yi costumes lead visitors in warm-up Yi dances.
The Yi Ancient Town is located north of Yong'an Avenue in the Chuxiong Economic and Technological Development Zone, west of the Solar Calendar Park, east of the Longchuan River, and south of the Chuda Expressway. It is a large-scale cultural tourism real estate project with ancient buildings as its platform and Yi culture as its "soul". It is a characteristic town that integrates cultural scenic spots, tourist distribution centers, urban reception halls and other functions. It showcases the architectural culture of the Yi chieftains in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi and other provinces and regions, and has become a bright city card for Chuxiong.
I came to the ancient town at the end of the Spring Festival holiday. There were not many people there. The goods in this ancient town are similar to those in other ancient towns. There is nothing special. There are many vendors selling beef jerky on the street. It should be considered a specialty here. I bought a bag. It was hard and chewy and tasted good.
The ancient town is relatively lively at night. Various stalls are set up. There are singers singing in the small square of the ancient town. There are Yi grandmothers dancing at the intersection of the street. There is a barbecue street in the ancient town. I went in to take a look. The hygiene inside did not seem very clean. Chuxiong is cold in the morning and evening, and hot at noon. I just walked around in the evening and went back to the hotel.
Yi Ancient Town felt like a paradise, much quieter than Bamei. Strangely enough, despite the higher altitude, the slight nausea gradually faded. In the morning, most shops were closed, and there were no more than 20 tourists. It was stunning. The Qingshui Canal even offered boating, which delighted my dad.
There are many stalls selling dried beef in the Yi Ancient Town. The authentic dried beef is made from beef.
Highland barley candy is delicious and very fragrant.
There is a sheep hanging in front of the barbecue stall in Yi Ancient Town.
Everything is freshly grilled and sold. The fresh lamb is delicious, but the pork PG is just average.
At night, the place is very lively, with food, drinks and entertainment all available. Some people started dancing around the square, and there was a lot of firewood in the middle, so I guess there was a bonfire dance.
It lacks the romance of Dali, the leisure and elegance of Lijiang, the beauty of Shuanglang, and the tranquility and pristine nature of Xizhou Ancient Town.
The newly built town is clean and tidy. There is a night market in the evening, and dancers in Yi costumes lead everyone in square dancing. It is a very unique place.
Check out the Yi Village Love Song. I fell in love with this place instantly!
During the day, people have the urge to calm down, and at night the Yi Ancient Town is like a beauty with heavy makeup, making people want to go dancing. Hahaha, the night view is beautiful, great.
Without further ado, here are a few pictures so you can feel it for yourself.
If you go during the day, I recommend staying until night to see the night view. Remember to bring your phone and charge it!
Yi Ancient Town ~ A friend opened a small bar there called "Player". It was very comfortable to live a leisurely life. We had Jianshui barbecue together in the evening. The Jianshui tofu was really delicious~~~
I'm late, so here are the pictures! A small pedestrian street is a great movie with just a few photos. There are really many beautiful scenes in the Yi Ancient Town. I recommend it.
Crazy call to the night view of Yi Ancient Town!!
Four words: Brilliant! Four more words: Worth a visit! After returning from Yi Ancient Town, I took some free time to sort through some old photos, which were filled with memories and beautiful memories. Hahahaha~ Just looking at the photos is enough to make you feel something. After visiting, you'll fall in love with this small town that feels like it's been dropped into a "Little Jiangnan" area.
In the evening, the Yi people dressed up to welcome tourists. I, a slightly introverted boy, actually danced happily with everyone. There were also folk artists breathing fire and playing with torches. There were also Yi Yueqin and Sanxian melodies in the corridor. Against the backdrop of the night view, I forgot all my worries.
Chuxiong Yi Ancient Town, with ancient town style.
There are small bridges and flowing water, and many bars. I won’t say more. I really regret not going to drink.
A great place to bring your family and children, where everyone's needs can be met. A great place to relax and have fun.
This ancient town integrates Yi culture and architectural culture. During the visit, I saw the locals wearing ethnic costumes and doing handicrafts, and I felt a sense of admiration. Cultural heritage should be passed on.
Yi Ancient Town was a new discovery on my trip to Yunnan. It's a must-go on the way from Kunming to Dali, and while it's rarely known, it's easy to miss. But once you've been there, you'll know it completely blows away Dali's Old Town. The architecture is truly unique, inspired by traditional Yi villages, and the evening fire ceremony is truly captivating. It's a unique town, beautiful by day and stunning by night.
A newly developed modern ancient town in Chuxiong City with good accommodation conditions.
This is my second time here. The first time, the infrastructure was still being improved, and I knew right away: there was something to do. Sure enough, this time, I came for the Torch Festival. Perhaps because it was a festival, the crowds were huge, and the streets of the ancient town were ablaze with things to see and do. The aroma of barbecue wafted through the streets, enticing me, especially the lamb skewers, freshly cut and grilled. My first meal was at Yifuxuan Local Cuisine Restaurant, a top-rated restaurant on Dianping. The two popular dishes were authentic, with the meat flavorful and the mushrooms chewy. Afterward, I strolled along the main street, offering a wide variety of food, drinks, and entertainment options, perfect for couples and those in between. Tired of shopping, I stopped at the 1984 Bar. It wasn't crowded, and the owner was very friendly. Listening to the guy across the street playing Cinderella on guitar and watching the river shimmer, brought back many memories. It was wonderful. A word of caution: Because the area is relatively new, most hotels aren't fully integrated with booking platforms. Be sure to call to verify your reservation after booking, or you'll end up having to deal with the owner when you arrive, which can ruin your trip.
I walked around inside for a bit, but found that it had been completely eroded by modernization and was no longer interesting.
Yi People's Ancient Town is a comprehensive local town that combines tourist performances, food, and handicrafts. Like most newly built ancient towns, its architecture is postmodern, but its unique character lies in its local culture. If you encounter a market or ethnic festival, there are also evening folk dances, which you can participate in.
The square dance in the evening is the most ethnic, so be sure to participate and feel the atmosphere.
There are many bars and snacks in the ancient town at night, but it is very quiet in the morning. You can stroll around the ancient town and buy some local specialties, but they are all man-made landscapes.
Originally a stopover on the way back to Kunming from Dali and Lijiang, it became our family's most acclaimed destination on this Yunnan trip. We were most satisfied with our accommodations, shopping, and food. We stayed at the Dianjunwang Hotel, located near the ancient town. The price was affordable, the quality was high, and the breakfast was excellent. In the evenings, we could go shopping and even join in the bonfire parties. It was the perfect place for a relaxing family road trip.
When I went there at night, there were many people dancing the left-foot dance around the fire at the entrance of the ancient town, which was quite fun. As I walked in, it was very similar to many ancient towns, with a strong commercial atmosphere. You can come here during the day, the quiet and clean ancient town has its own unique flavor.
First, I have to mention the locals! They're incredibly warm and attentive, and unlike some cities, they won't ignore you or give you the wrong directions when you ask for directions! A huge thank you! We went there during the Torch Festival. If you're interested in attending the Torch Festival, I recommend going to Shilin, which is more unique and lively. It's a small city, so it's a bit crowded! We went to Yiren Ancient Town, a huge commercial street that takes about two hours to walk around, and even longer if you stay longer! There's a snack street, but it's all barbecue and smoky! Across from Yiren Ancient Town, on the right, about 500 meters away, there's a mutton hotpot restaurant that's incredible. Even I, who never eats mutton offal or mutton soup, devoured it! The lamb liver is also great! I didn't see the name, but the wooden tables were packed. If you're in Yiren Ancient Town, don't miss it! The Torch Festival in the ancient town takes place at the Bimo's house, off the main street, so be mindful! There's a 40 yuan entrance fee, and I bought a pinewood torch for 10 yuan! Dancing around the torches didn't quite live up to the atmosphere, but let's still experience it! Overall, the mutton hotpot is highly recommended! For the rest, enjoy a leisurely stroll after finishing the hotpot!
Yi Ancient Town is a Yi ethnic cultural tourism area offering dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment. Built on the site of the former Dali Kingdom's Dejiang City during the Song Dynasty, it's a brand new "ancient town." While no entrance fee is required to enter the ancient town, the Yi tribe attractions within do require one. The scenic area is large and beautifully landscaped, reminiscent of the charming Jiangnan towns with their small bridges and flowing water, and is not often visited. Visitors to Chuxiong are advised to stay in or near the ancient town and explore it during their free time in the mornings and evenings.
The commercial atmosphere is very strong. The whole town feels like an amusement park has been moved here. I didn't go into the Yi tribe, but I heard that the light show is quite nice. I don't recommend going there during the day. I personally think it's a bit boring.
It's more of a shopping street than an ancient town. Arriving at 6pm, there were hardly any tourists, but once it got dark, the square was suddenly filled with people. The only fun thing was the bonfire dance! From 7pm to 9pm, some Yi women led the dance, and half of my class joined in. We danced for an hour, haha. When the bonfire was finally lit at 9pm, they charged 15 yuan for a small torch to enter and watch the dance. We danced so hard inside that we didn't even have to leave.
Yi People's Ancient Town is located north of Yong'an Avenue in the Economic Development Zone of Chuxiong City, Chuxiong Prefecture. It's a newly developed area that offers food, accommodation, and sightseeing. Many shops sell Yunnan specialties.
It is recommended to travel by bus in the city! The museum must be visited. For the rest, you can look at my long picture, your own strategy, selfless contribution
This was a place the tour group hadn't visited, but since we were there for the first time, we were all excited and asked the locals for recommendations for a unique ancient town. The lighting was beautiful at night, and the street vendors were unique, including many ethnic costumes. We bought embroidered shoes and wooden bowls and chopsticks.
If you have plenty of time in Yunnan, you can go there. The scenery is beautiful and the weather was also very good when we went.
Chuxiong Prefecture is home to a large concentration of ethnic minorities, so its charm is inevitably tied to the culture and unique characteristics of these minorities. The Yi Ancient Town is located in Chuxiong City. I've been there a few times during the day. It wasn't crowded, and most of the shops and stalls were closed. But honestly, it was a lovely place to wander around and even felt like a good place for a relaxing retreat. It's worth noting that this area is entirely man-made, and the shops mostly sell silver jewelry, jade, ethnic clothing, accessories, and handicrafts. Food is often Yi-style, like mutton, dried beef, roasted ash tofu, and fried potatoes. Today was a beautiful day, the first of Chuxiong Prefecture's five-day state holiday. I arrived by bus at 6 PM. I heard there were Water Splashing Festival activities during the day... I originally thought I'd have to go to Xishuangbanna for that ╮(╯_╰)╭, but I missed it. The evenings are bustling! In the square, music plays from large speakers, and people gather in circles to do the left-foot dance. There's also a bonfire at the Paimen gate! The atmosphere is so captivating, even just standing there and watching makes me feel happy and upbeat! I heard from locals that it's usually more crowded at night, especially during ethnic festivals. Haha, last year during the Torch Festival, we actually passed by the Yi Ancient Town. The main road outside was packed with cars, and everyone wanted to go in and enjoy the excitement, but when we got in the car and looked through the gate, it was packed, and everyone was scared away! So, if you want to experience the charm of this place, you have to choose a good time to come, haha~
I stayed at the Gufeng Inn that day, in a deluxe standard room (118 square meters). The room was clean and looked fairly new, making it quite comfortable. It faced the street, but vendors were still playing music until 11 p.m. I especially loved the vegetarian restaurant that was part of the inn! Wow! It was fantastic! They had about 20 or 30 dishes. The buffet was 15 yuan per person, and inn guests got a 20% discount, so it was 12 yuan. I slowly ate my vegetarian dishes and listened to the music, and I felt so much more at peace.
As for the rest of Chuxiong Prefecture, I've only visited three counties. My first stop was Yongren County, where I had a delicious dish called crispy pork. It's really fragrant! If you're passing through or visiting, give it a try. The locals also produce a lot of fruit, like pomegranates, strawberries, and cherries. In Mouding County, you can buy beef jerky. The beef is really fragrant and the price is very reasonable. I personally recommend the semi-dried variety, which makes it more appealing. It's around 100 yuan per kilogram. In Yuanmou County, I visited the Yuanmou Man Museum... Do you guys remember our junior high history class? 😁 (Most of my classmates back then were naughty kids. We never tired of pointing at the Yuanmou Man's head and saying to our deskmate, "That's your grandfather!")
Yi Ancient Town, a very nice place, no tickets required, and there is a Torch Festival performance at night
The Yi people's ancient town and Yi people's tribe are crowded at night, with a variety of delicious night market stalls and barbecues.
This is a new imitation of an ancient town, but judging by its layout, it's a good replica. In a few hundred years, it could become a real ancient town. The main attractions of Yi Ancient Town include Wangjiang Tower, Peach Blossom Creek, Deyun Square, the Ancient Theater, Miyilu Square, Meige Square, Torch Square, the Yi Tribe, and the Tusi Mansion.
It's not as famous as Dali, but there are many people at night. There are no fast food restaurants, only some dry food and snacks. Every day at 8:40, Yi people and tourists sing and dance around the torches. Coming to the ancient town is to experience the local customs. It's still very good.
It's right next to my house... Although it's a newly built ancient town, it's still nice to come and take a walk when you have nothing to do.
It couldn't be more beautiful. Take the train from Kunming to Chuxiong, and take a taxi for 10 yuan. It's very convenient. I highly recommend it and want to go again.
It's very commercialized and feels like a newly built building. There's nothing special about it. However, the locals dancing ethnic square dances at night is quite nice.
Located in Chuxiong, Yunnan, the Yi People's Ancient Town is less famous than the Old Towns of Dali and Lijiang, but it's also incredibly charming! The town boasts numerous attractions, including the Wangjiang Tower, an ancient opera stage, Torch Square, the Yi Tribe, and the Tusi Mansion, all steeped in the rich cultural heritage of the Yi people. At night, the Torch Square is bustling with bonfires and crowds of people dancing the "left-foot dance." The town also boasts a wide variety of local delicacies, including Yunnan-style beef jerky, ethnic barbecue, and ginger candy.
There's also a Korean street in the back half of the town. It's packed with imported Korean goods, as well as Korean restaurants, snack shops, and cosmetics stores. It's a great place to browse! If you don't walk along the main street, you can still enjoy the tranquility of the town: the breeze, the small bridges, the flowing water, the green trees, and the retro buildings—it's as beautiful as a painting!
The most popular time for Yi Ancient Town is during the Torch Festival! Every year on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, Yunnan's Torch Festival is at its busiest. People from all over the country flock to the town during this time, and there are many events taking place there. The Yi tribes offer a variety of activities, including bonfire parties, river lantern releases, performances, knife-walking, torch-swallowing, and even the "Left Foot Dance" (a dance performed by thousands of people).
In short, the ancient town can be said to be as quiet as a virgin and as agile as a rabbit, and it looks good with light or heavy makeup!
It's a very comfortable place, you just need to stay longer to integrate into it.
It is not as good as Lijiang, but it is less crowded, quieter, has big water wheels and rivers, and it is a nice experience to visit the ancient town when it rains.
All the ancient towns in Yunnan are similar, there is nothing special about them.
This is a newly built ethnic ancient town, a 4A scenic spot, no tickets are required, there are few tourists, it is also nice to take a walk after dinner
I arrived at the Yi Ancient Town early in the morning. It was not yet 8 o'clock, so no vendors were out and no tourists were around, so I was able to capture the rare silence. However, they were already selling breakfast, such as steamed dumplings and porridge.
The Yi people are not only here, but also in the Stone Forest, where there were quite a few of them. Yi men love to eat barbecue and drink at night, and they are said to fight... So if you want to fight, you should do it here at night, and don't wander around aimlessly.
This ancient city was built in imitation of other ancient cities. There are very few people, but the scenery is still good.
After getting off the bus and asking the locals, we learned that it was actually just ahead, just a few steps away. Amidst the brilliant lights, we saw a tall archway with the four large characters "Yi People Ancient Town" prominently displayed.
It was almost 8 p.m. when we arrived. Entering the ancient town from the archway, we found it bustling with activity. A broad road stretched straight ahead, with no end in sight. On either side of the road stood open-air stalls, each displaying a dazzling array of goods, many featuring local Yi products. Behind the stalls, a series of shops lined the streets, allowing visitors to enter the shops from side paths. Although the ancient town looked new, its layout was orderly and spacious, demonstrating the meticulous planning and extensive development of the area.
The lights on the stalls and shops illuminated the entire road like daylight. The place was bustling with people. We wandered from stall to stall, and our eyes were not enough to see everything. We were so infected by the joyful and lively atmosphere that we wanted to go shopping here.
In the afternoon, we arrived at the Yi Ancient Town, which was bustling with activity. Numerous shops specializing in Yunnan specialties, such as Panax notoginseng powder, tea, and jade, were selling a wide variety of Yi handicrafts. There were also Yi performances, including bamboo dances and wine tastings, all open to visitors.
The Yi Ancient Town is not very large. Although it is called an ancient town, it is not very ancient. Half a day is enough. In this case, we can only bask in the sun and take some photos.
The Yi Ancient Town is not difficult to find. It is just a nice left turn after exiting the Chuxiong East Expressway.
The Yi Ancient Town's favorability has risen to Friendly
There weren't many tourists, the green water was quiet, and we felt great. Many people say that the Yi Ancient Town is "not ancient enough", but we are just ordinary casual players and don't plan to graduate from a perverted archaeology major.
The food was delicious and the fun was great. Someone even tried to cheat and wanted to stay for one more day. In the end, I had to tempt her with delicious food at the next stop to convince her to go on the road.
Chuxiong's Yi Ancient Town is also quite nice. Those who have been to Lijiang might be a bit tired of the aesthetics. At night in the Yi Ancient Town, enjoy the Yi dance.
I took a walk around the Yi Ancient Town. To be honest, it is a man-made landscape and not very interesting. If there were festivals, it would probably be very lively.
I have visited almost all the famous ancient towns in China. The only feeling I have is that all the ancient towns are more spiritual at night than during the day.
As night falls, the Yi Ancient Town becomes even more bustling. You can see all sorts of unique snacks and gadgets. People come and go, making it quite lively.
The Yi Ancient Town is actually composed of some antique buildings built later, but the neatly arranged houses still look quite comfortable.
The entire style of the Yi Ancient Town is actually an imitation of Lijiang, but unfortunately it is not an ancient town but a completely man-made new town.
But if you go during the Torch Festival, it's quite lively. The Yi Ancient Town is a bit bigger, with lots of food and drink. But there aren't many attractions.
The Yi Ancient Town is more of a new town than an ancient town. It was obviously funded by the government to develop the tourism industry. Yiwu's small commodities are sold along the streets, which is very different from Heijing.
There is a taste of water town here. It is very nice. The town has an ancient charm that makes people feel comfortable.
If you've been to Lijiang or Dali before, it's very similar. It's not overly crowded, but it's lively and not as deserted as the guidebooks make it seem. They have a speciality there: roasted dried bacon. You should definitely go there if you can. It's quite good, though a bit pricey at 20 yuan per liang. We only bought a small piece.
Yi Ancient Town, with its imitation-class architecture. Behind it is a Burmese street, specializing in jade and jadeite. The Yi Ancient Town's landscape isn't what we're interested in, but that doesn't mean we won't remember it. The Yi Ancient Town, with its artificially carved landscape, is also peaceful.
The main route through Yiren Ancient Town is quite wide, lined with vendors. You can drive in the town, so be careful when visiting. Accommodation is not expensive, with the cheapest being 40 yuan and the average being around 80 yuan. There are also plenty of snacks to try.
The Yi Ancient Town does not have a long history and rich culture. It is just a tourist attraction that was developed later. However, I have always felt that ancient towns across the country are probably the same, with sunny inns, shops, small bridges, flowing water and stone roads.
The streets and buildings there are all antique-style, newly built and under development, and many shops are still looking for tenants... It's a perfect time to be here, to see the beautiful scenery instead of the crowds... I'm really worried that in a few years, this place will become another Lijiang...
Walking into the Yi People Ancient Town, the winter sun was as warm as ever. The ancient Yi residential buildings, with their blue bricks and gray tiles, came into view. It was a truly classical sight.
It's quite lively there at night. Since it's late, many shops are closed. There are many small shops here, very ethnic.
The Yi Ancient Town is so commercialized and just average. I bought a cup of Pao Lu Da while I was walking around, and I regret it so much. It's made like this: a little milk + a lot of water + coconut flakes + bread slices. It really cost me ten yuan.
The town is relatively quiet, there are no people in the bar, and all the houses are newly built with a good layout and are quite tidy.
Feel the ordinary life of the local people and experience the rhythm of life of the Yi people. The traces of Han culture are still visible everywhere. But the ancient town is very charming.
TIPS: This place is incredibly sparsely populated; the facilities are excellent, and the roads are clean. Surprisingly, the roads aren't paved, which was a joy to pull with suitcases. However, it didn't seem particularly special, perhaps because we didn't look closely enough. [It's said that at night, the Yi people dress in their finest attire, sing Yi tunes, and perform the left-foot dance. There are also fire-throwing and torch-playing activities in the square. There are also other activities during the Torch Festival.]
Recommended play time: 1-2 hours
Recommendation index: 3 stars
The memorial archway in Yi Ancient Town is very impressive.
The road inside is a very flat stone road, unlike other ancient cities or towns. It is clean all the way and there are not many tourists.
In addition to the various city towers, the Yi Ancient Town is also famous for its Tusi Mansion and Yi tribe. Due to time constraints, I really just took a photo and checked in before leaving.
