The ticket price for Yuantong Temple is 6 yuan per person, and there is a discount of 5 yuan per person during the Spring Festival. This is really a conscience deal. After buying the ticket, you can get a set of incense and candles for free at the entrance.

Unlike other Buddhist temples, after entering the mountain gate, the path leads straight downhill along the central axis, rather than uphill. The Yuantong Hall is located at the lowest point of the temple. The entire temple is centered around the Yuantong Hall, with a pond in front and winding corridors on either side connecting to the opposite hall, creating a unique style of waterside pavilion-style temple and pond courtyard.

By olive tree |

The ticket price for Yuantong Temple is 6 yuan, and children over 1.2 meters tall must buy a full ticket.

The further you go into the temple, the lower the terrain becomes. This is a rare inverted slope temple in Chinese temple architecture. The main hall is located at the lowest point of the temple. However, the slope is not steep.

There is a Longhua Temple behind it, but its shape is very ordinary. The weather was also bad with large dark clouds, which made the background look bad, so I won’t post a photo.

Yuantong Temple has always been one of the eight scenic spots in Kunming. From an architectural point of view, it seeks tranquility in the bustling city, and sees the big picture from the small. With the scenery of Luofeng Mountain behind it, it forms a unique water courtyard Buddhist temple. It is like a beautiful Jiangnan water town garden, and has a unique style in Chinese garden art.

By The scenery is on the road |

Traditional Chinese architecture is generally flat and stable, with a low front and high back. Yuantong Temple, however, is unusual in that it is high in the front and low in the back. After entering the mountain gate, one walks down the road. This layout is quite rare.

The smooth stone road is called Bodhi Avenue.

Going down along the central axis, behind the archway is the Maitreya Hall.

The four words "Yuantong Shengjing" were written by Wu Sangui's grandson Wu Shifan.

Behind the Maitreya Hall is an octagonal pavilion standing in the center of the release pond, where Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined.

The octagonal pavilion connects the Maitreya Hall and the Yuantong Hall through two three-arch stone bridges.

The Yuantong Hall with a double-eaved hip roof is located at the lowest point of the temple.

Buddhist bells and egrets fly together, and the yellow tiles match the blue sky.

The seven-bay Yuantong Hall houses three Qing Dynasty clay sculptures of Sakyamuni Buddha.

Behind the rockery beside the release pond is the Pu Guangming Hall of Tibetan Buddhism, where statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava and Tsongkhapa are enshrined.

The upright and magnificent Yuantong Hall.

Go to the back of Yuantong Hall and look up to see the plaque with the words "Endless Treasure".

Behind the Yuantong Hall is a stone Theravada Buddhist building, the "Bronze Buddha Hall".

The Bronze Buddha Hall houses a bronze seated Sakyamuni Buddha donated by a Thai monk, and in front of the bronze seated Buddha there is a jade Buddha.

Next to the Bronze Buddha Hall is the Naxia Screen.

Ancient cliff inscriptions can be seen on the mountain.

Next to the Naxia Screen is a Tibetan Buddhist practice center hung with prayer flags.

The pattern on the stone tablet is blurry and difficult to distinguish.

The Naxia Screen marks the end of the Yuantong Temple tour. The clockwise route continues past the Yuantong Hall, the Free Life Pond, and the Octagonal Pavilion. The absence of a Guanyin statue within the Yuantong Hall, with the Bodhisattva seated in the center of the pavilion, is a unique feature of Yuantong Temple. Most temples enshrine Guanyin in the Main Hall or Yuantong Hall.

Yuantong Temple is a rare place where Mahayana Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism and Theravada Buddhism converge together.

Yuantong Temple, a thousand-year-old temple in Kunming, was first built during the Nanzhao period of the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,200 years ago. While the temple is bustling with incense, aside from the occasional bird calls, it's peaceful and tranquil, a true Buddhist haven.

The two plum trees in the temple are in full bloom, really attracting bees [snicker][snicker]

Of course, the most touching couplet is the one behind the main hall: People coming and going on the street are all doing two things; monks staying and working in the ancient temple are all due to one thing.

By Tramp |

If you have a conversion certificate, you can get free admission and three incense sticks for free. Some areas are under maintenance, and the volunteers are very enthusiastic and thoughtful. Except for the Guanyin Hall, several main halls are not allowed to enter, which is a bit regrettable.

Tickets are very cheap, and the ground level is very low as you go inward, which is very rare among temples. There is a pond in the temple, an island in the pond, and a pavilion on the island, forming a unique water temple, which also resembles a small Jiangnan water garden.

Yuantong Temple is one of the eight scenic spots in Kunming. Although it is located in the city, it is free from noise, with lush green trees and a deep Zen atmosphere.

By Eriol |

There is an ancient temple hidden deep in the city. The environment is great and the incense is very popular. I feel more peaceful every time I come here. I came here with my colleagues at the beginning of the year and made a wish in August, hoping to have a more peaceful mind. There are three main halls. We come here to chant scriptures on important days. There is vegetarian food at noon. Everyone is very friendly. The ticket is six yuan, and it comes with joss sticks and burning incense.

By Strive to be the best |

As a Buddhist holy site, I advise ordinary people not to make wishes for themselves easily. Instead, they should offer incense and pray for the well-being of all living beings. It's best not to seek personal gain. Personally, I believe that travel is about understanding the local culture, history, and religion. I recommend going and seeing it.

Yuantong Zen Temple is a rare temple devoid of the whims of money. While its incense offerings aren't particularly strong, there's no street vendors of any kind. It's a tranquil spot, the first Guanyin temple in history, nestled against the backdrop of a mountain and a river. The old temple building sits in a lake, where koi swim—a blessing I cherish in my heart.

It is an ancient temple with a long history and is quite popular. Those who are interested can go there and take a look. The scenery inside is also beautiful.

Thousand-year-old temple!

Originally named "Buduoluo Temple", it was built during the Nanzhao period of the Tang Dynasty and has a history of over 1,200 years. It was expanded during the Yanyou period of the Yuan Dynasty (1314-1320 AD) and renamed Yuantong Temple. It was rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.

Yuantong Temple is a famous ancient Zen temple in Yunnan, enshrining a bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha donated by the Kingdom of Thailand.

May the blessings of the temple shine upon us, and may the Three Jewels bless us!

Every spring, the temple is filled with cherry blossoms, birdsong, and fragrance. The dining hall serves vegetarian meals for 5 yuan each, and is free for tribute meals. The entrance fee is 6 yuan, and you can get a candle for free.

The temple is quite large and lacks a commercial atmosphere, which I really like. It was a great place to wander around on my last day in Yunnan. That day, I saw a mother and her child praying sincerely. You could tell the child had some congenital imperfections, and the mother was bringing him out to pray for his safety. It's amazing how compassionate parents are.

[Yuantong Temple] Ticket price is 6 yuan, and incense is free.

Yuantong Temple is located at the foot of Yuantong Mountain. The cherry blossoms on Yuantong Mountain in spring are said to be very beautiful, but I didn't have the pleasure to see them. Let's take a look at the temple located at the foot of the mountain. The price of 6 yuan is very reasonable for such an exquisite temple. The building of Yuantong Temple has been recently renovated. Fortunately, the maintenance work is good and there is no excessive modern feeling.

The best part of Yuantong Temple is around the Yuantong Hall. Calming Buddhist music can be heard from the hall, and the magnolias in front of the hall are about to bloom. I sat for a long time in the square in front of the hall, and there was a foreign guy next to me who read a book for a long time. It's really a great place to calm your mind. This kind of experience can only be had in the off-season of January. During summer vacation, haha, I can imagine that scene~

Yuantong Temple is located in the center of Kunming, about 3 kilometers north of the Golden Horse and Jade Rooster Archway.

This is the largest temple in Kunming City; if counted from the Potala Temple built in the Nanzhao period of the Tang Dynasty 1,200 years ago, it is also the earliest Guanyin temple in China.

Yuantong Temple is distinguished primarily by its water-based courtyard and its "inverted slope" structure, with its exterior rising high and its interior lower. Furthermore, here, visitors can admire the diverse styles of Buddhist halls representing the three major sects of Buddhism: Mahayana (Northern Buddhism), Theravada (Theravada Buddhism), and Tibetan Buddhism (Lamaism). Due to historical reasons, the main hall, Yuantong Hall, originally enshrined the Tathagata Buddha, while Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined in the octagonal pavilion in front of the hall. The temple's backdrop is Yuantong Mountain, and numerous ancient cliff inscriptions can be seen in front of the mountain.

I came across this temple by chance and went in out of curiosity. The ticket price is 6 yuan, and you get three incense sticks and a pair of candles for your worship. It doesn't look big at the entrance, but the buildings inside are winding and secluded. What's more, there are many flowers and plants. It is bigger than I expected. There are many monks chanting in the innermost building. This seems to be the largest Buddhist exchange center in Yunnan. If you are interested, you can come and see it. It is worth the price of admission.

The largest local Buddhist temple is located on the hill behind the zoo. Believers can go there to worship. The entrance fee seems to be 10 yuan, and it's not very big! There are many fortune tellers at the entrance, most of whom are scammers (you pay 2 yuan for a fortune, and when they interpret it, they take you to a quiet place and charge you at least 100 to 100 yuan).

It now serves as the seat of the Yunnan Buddhist Association, attracting numerous lay Buddhists for their practice and a vibrant following. It is said to be well-known throughout Southeast Asia.

Yuantong Temple's main entrance faces the street, making it easy to find. Its massive gate is imposing. The temple, nestled against the rocky slope, boasts numerous exquisitely carved beams and painted buildings, as well as Buddhist statues. Originally a Guanyin Temple, it was rebuilt in 1301, the fifth year of the Dade reign of the Yuan Dynasty (1301 AD), as "Yuantong" is Guanyin's Buddhist name. It has undergone numerous renovations and expansions throughout the ages. The temple gate, facing the street, bears the large plaque "Yuantong Zen Temple," a calligraphy piece by Qi Gong. The couplets on either side of the gate are by Zhao Puchu.

After entering the temple and passing the "Yuantong Shengjing Archway," walk down the stone steps. Flanked by dense ancient cypresses, the setting is tranquil. On the central axis are the Heavenly King Hall, Yuantong Hall, Sutra Library, and Five Buddha Hall.

The Yuantong Hall is a majestic building, with emerald tiles and flying eaves, carved beams and painted buildings, exuding extraordinary grandeur. In front of the hall stands a large pool with an octagonal building in the middle, connected by a stone bridge to the north and south. Behind the hall is a precipitous cliff, adding to the grandeur and magnificence of the entire Yuantong Temple.

Yuantong Temple is nestled in the valley between Wuhua Mountain and Yuantong Mountain. As you enter the temple, the terrain gradually descends, creating a rare "inverted slope temple" design in Chinese temple architecture. At the bottom of the slope is the Heavenly King Hall, where the "Yulanpen Festival Remembrance and Gratitude Ceremony" is currently underway, creating a truly grand spectacle.

When we arrived in Kunming that day, we first went to Yuantong Temple, the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Kunming city in the afternoon. Yuantong Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty and was renovated in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It has a history of more than 1,200 years.

The temple is located on Yuantong Street, adjacent to the Kunming Zoo to the north. There's a direct bus from Kunming Railway Station. Tickets are very cheap, 15 yuan per person, and senior citizen cards are free (Yunnan attractions only accept the red-skinned senior citizen card; ID cards sometimes don't count), and you get a set of incense and candles.

Walking down the street, you will reach the mountain gate. The large archway at the entrance is quite charming, and the foundation stone is beautifully carved.

There are many people in the temple. What is special is that there is a large pond in the middle of the temple. There is a large hall on the stone platform in the middle of the pond.

Behind it is Yuantong Mountain. The Bronze Buddha Temple is famous, and a cliff carving reveals the history of the temple.

This is the only temple in China where the main hall is located at the lowest point. The ground level gets lower and lower after you enter the main gate. However, the incense here is very popular. To enter Yuantong Temple, you need to descend a few steps. At the end of the steps, you'll find a wide path with a large gate. Numerous large decorative statues line the path on either side. Entering through the second gate reveals the true face of Yuantong Temple. The first building you see is another ancient, temple-style building. Its back faces the gate, so you have to go around to the front to enter. While it seems you're not allowed to enter the main hall, there are free Buddhist materials available at the entrance. From the main hall, there's a stone bridge. From there, you'll reach the heart of Yuantong Temple. The interior is quite large. When I visited, I even saw monks performing a grand water ritual. It was a solemn and lively scene.
