In 1937, the fall of Peking sent Peking, Tsinghua, and Nankai universities relocating to Hunan and merging into the Provisional Changsha University. With the Japanese invasion and Changsha in imminent danger, the three universities relocated to Kunming, Yunnan, where they formed the National Southwest Associated University, a university whose legacy spanned the entire War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Its former site is located within Yunnan Normal University. Yunnan Normal University's predecessor can be traced back to the Teachers' College of the National Southwest Associated University, founded in 1938. In 1946, Peking, Tsinghua, and Nankai, the three universities that formed the Associated University, returned north, leaving the Teachers' College to remain in Kunming as an independent institution, designated the National Kunming Normal University.

Yunnan Normal University, located in Kunming, the beautiful Spring City, capital of Yunnan Province, is a provincially-administered key normal university with a long history and rich traditions. It is one of the three local normal universities in China that piloted the reform of free normal education for students. Its predecessor was the Normal College of the National Southwest Associated University, founded in 1938. In 1946, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University, which formed the Southwest Associated University, returned to China. The Normal College remained in Kunming and became an independent institution, designated the National Kunming Normal College. In 1950, it was renamed Kunming Normal College, and in 1984, it was renamed Yunnan Normal University. In 1999, it merged with Yunnan Education College and Yunnan Institute of Physical Education to form Yunnan Normal University.

Compared with Yunnan University, the Normal University is a little smaller, but you can still feel the difference between "young" and "old". Maybe it's because it was renovated to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the school, it looks quite new!

Lush green grass, blue and quiet sky, "abundant talent and beautiful scenery" is the most appropriate description of the students here. The stone statue of Wen Yiduo is awe-inspiring, and there is also a list of great men's photos and brief introductions.

The academic atmosphere here is very strong!

There are basketball, football and baseball fields in the center of the campus. There are many people watching and the atmosphere is lively. There is also an abandoned railway lying in the middle, which makes the scenery unique!

There is also a snack street outside the campus, which sells local specialties, but they seem a bit expensive!

Inside is the former site of National Southwest Associated University, close to Wenhua Lane, which feels very quiet. You can also reach Yunnan University and visit the surrounding campuses.

Yunnan Normal University is much smaller than Yunnan University.

You can finish your tour in a short while.

The old campus of Yunnan Normal University is the original Southwest Associated University.

By Want to travel around the world |

The teaching environment itself is also very good. After entering the school gate, it feels like entering a large park, and the former site of Southwest Associated University is located in the central area of the campus.

By Walking on the road |

The old campus is really small. Apart from the part where Southwest Associated University was located, there are no other buildings. Most of the teaching should have moved to the Chenggong campus. If you want to learn more about the history of Southwest Associated University, there is a Southwest Associated University Museum in the upper right corner of the Normal University. It is a two-story building and not very big, but it is worth a visit.

I just came here after watching "Never Gone" and I still have some feelings. Studying is really a cool thing.

By Mountains Float on Water |

The school's predecessor was the renowned National Southwest Associated University. Walking northeast from the campus, you'll see a large plaque reading "National Southwest Associated University." Further along, you'll see classrooms and the Southwest Associated University Monument, all recreated to their original appearance. This gives you a rich sense of history and culture. (I think it's a great family trip to bring your children during this winter or summer break to learn about history.)

By Two cakes |

To be honest, there is nothing worth seeing here. We rested for a long time on the small stone bench under the tree, and left when we had rested enough.

The campus environment is very good. There is a building that is very suitable for taking photos, but I can’t remember what it is called.

Yunnan University is opposite Yunnan Normal University.

By Zhu Sanqian |

Just to feel the former domineering style of Southwest United University, the old campus is well preserved.

By Makkabaka |

Entering from the main gate of Yunnan Normal University, walk to the right for five minutes and you will see the eye-catching plaque of "National Southwest Associated University". Inside is the old site of the university that has been preserved to this day.

Yellow walls, thatched roof, red doors and windows, red tables and chairs, the historical atmosphere is still there.

A major destination of this trip to Kunming is a visit to the former site of the National Southwest Associated University. Founded during the Anti-Japanese War, the university was a joint venture between Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University in Tianjin. It produced two Nobel Prize winners and nearly 100 academicians, a milestone in Chinese educational history. The university now houses the National Southwest Associated University History Exhibition Hall, along with the cenotaph of Wen Yiduo and the tomb of Li Gongpu.

Southwest Associated University, the most awesome university. After learning about this period of history, I watched "Never Gone".

One of my personal favorite places is the former site of the National Southwest Associated University. After learning about the history of the National Southwest Associated University, I know that Yunnan Normal University was established after the National Southwest Associated University and has inherited some of the traditions of the National Southwest Associated University. Because it happened to be winter vacation when I went there, the campus was very quiet and the campus environment was very good.

Yunnan Normal University is a provincial key normal university with a long history. Its predecessor was the Teachers College of Southwest Associated University (formed by the relocation of Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University to Kunming), China's most prestigious university during the Anti-Japanese War. After liberation, it was renamed Kunming Normal College, and in 1984, it was renamed Yunnan Normal University. The old campus in Kunming retains the remains of Southwest Associated University and the December 1st Movement Memorial Hall, making it a worthwhile visit for visitors interested in history and culture.

Even more famous than Yunnan University and holding significant historical significance, Yunnan Normal University is not far from the latter, a mere 7-8 minute walk. Yunnan Normal University's predecessor can be traced back to the National Southwest Associated University's Teachers College, founded in 1938 (the Year of the Tiger). In 1946, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University, which formed the Associated University, returned to China, leaving Yunnan Normal College to remain in Kunming as an independent institution, designated National Kunming Normal College. In 1950, National Kunming Normal College was renamed Kunming Normal College, and in 1984, it was renamed Yunnan Normal University. The campus is quite small, but the historical sites are worth a visit!

By I'm Eileen |

I particularly enjoy the atmosphere of the university. I often ride my bike around on weekends, enjoying the quaint buildings and lush trees. Groups of students chat and read at stone tables, while students occasionally sketch ancient trees. From Yunnan University, you can go directly to Green Lake for a stroll. In winter, you can even feed the seagulls there.

Southwest Associated University, everyone who studies literature should come and see it

By Jessie |

To the northwest of Yunnan University lies Yunnan Normal University. Walking west from the north gate of Yunnan University along 121st Street, you'll reach the south gate of the university. Yunnan Normal University's predecessor was the Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University. If Yunnan University offers a glimpse into the past, then Yunnan Normal University offers a chance to experience the motto "never forget your original aspiration."

Yunnan Normal University is located at 298 Yieryi Street, Wuhua District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. It is the former site of the famous Southwest Associated University. The story of Lu Qiao's "Wei Yang Ge" also takes place here.

By Xiao Qi meets Shan Shan |

In fact, Yunnan Normal University and Yunnan University are very close and have a strong sense of history.

By rolling mill worker |

Yunnan Normal University, formerly the renowned National Southwest Associated University, was founded in 1938. Hearing this date, those sensitive to history will immediately recall the nation's greatest calamity: the eight-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. During that time, vast tracts of Chinese territory fell into Japanese hands. To preserve the essence of education, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Nankai University were ordered to relocate repeatedly, ultimately moving from Changsha to Kunming in April 1938. While detailed records of the relocation process are unknown, the inscription on the monument, which reads, "Teachers and students walked through Guizhou," suggests the journey must have been incredibly arduous.

Even when the country was in danger, the foundation of education could not be interrupted. Southwest Associated University, which existed for 8 years and 11 months, trained a large number of students and patriotic young people for the motherland. It established academic freedom internally and cultivated scientific elites such as Yang Zhenning, Li Zhengdao, and Deng Jiaxian; it built a democratic fortress externally, had many national pioneers such as Zhu Ziqing and Wen Yiduo as teachers, and trained more than 800 teachers and students to join the army for the rise of the nation.

Today, Southwest Associated University has become a national key cultural relic protection site, but its location remains unchanged, having been relocated to the Yunnan Normal University campus. You can enter directly from the gates on Yieryi Street or Jianshe Road, without the need for student ID checks. Compared to other well-known domestic universities, this is truly "democratic and free." The campus is not large, and you'll quickly find a replica of the original Southwest Associated University gate. Further in, you'll find the entire protected area. A classroom has been preserved, but the door is locked. From the window, you can peek into the simple desks and chairs inside. Imagine what it must have been like for students attending classes there, and reflect on your own attempts to sleep during class.

The highlights of the entire reserve are the mausoleums of Wen Yiduo, Li Gongpu, and the December 14th Martyrs, as well as the Southwest Associated University monument. Two bouquets of vibrant chrysanthemums were placed in front of Wen Yiduo's cenotaph. I wonder if they were placed by a teacher or student, or perhaps by a visitor like me. All of these areas are open to the public, but the indoor memorial hall and classrooms are locked. I guess we arrived at the wrong time. According to the guide, there are usually free guided tours.

The quiet campus, as the former site of Southwest Associated University, is worth a visit when you come to Yunnan.

By Unruly |

I've been there, I've been there, it's not as good as Yunnan University, there's a lot of construction going on in many places, but the cemetery of the four martyrs is quite shocking.

By Ferryman SJ |

Because of Huang Shujun's "Wei Yang Ge" and after reading Mr. Lu Qiao's "Wei Yang Ge", the first thing I did during my half-day layover in Kunming was to go to Yunnan Normal University. When I was standing in front of the former site of Southwest Associated University to take pictures, the lyrics "When Dayu kissed Baosheng, I finally fulfilled a wish" floated in my mind.

By If the cloud understood |

I went to Yunnan Normal University because the former site of National Southwest Associated University is there, which is worth a visit. The school is very small and there is not much to see except the former site.

By luofan1724 |

It’s okay. If you have enough time, you can come and have a look and feel it.

By Chloeღ |

Yunnan Normal University, my last stop.

I didn't really tour it, but the school's layout is quite strange, considering Southwest Associated University is right there. ... Another university in the heart of downtown...

During my two days in Kunming, I discovered that this city is actually quite lovely. There's even a plot at Kunming No. 1 Middle School to mourn the school cat... And then there's the unexpected encounter at Yunnan Normal University with a fat cat that was initially good-tempered but then got angry and started grabbing people...

I like this aspect of the city, it's very cute~

Yunnan Normal University is also a school with a history. It houses the former site of Southwest Associated University, Mr. Wen Yiduo's statue and cenotaph. You can go and pay homage to the style of our ancestors.

By ttxz |

Everyone in the world laments the former glory of Southwest Associated University, but few people know that the former site of Southwest Associated University is actually located in Yunnan Normal University.

By Aqie |

The most important thing is that it houses Southwest Associated University and Wen Yiduo's cenotaph.

By Clear Sky |

The main gate looks like a normal university.

I went to Yunnan Normal University to see the former site of Southwest Associated University.

You need to know some background knowledge before going to Yunnan University and Yunnan Normal University, at least you need to know about Southwest Associated University, otherwise walking on campus will lack a lot of flavor, or you may not be interested in these places at all.

By This person is alone and sad baby |

Southwest Associated University is where the great masters of the Republic of China taught and conducted research. This place in the Republic of China is an era and university that students like me admire. It's a pity that I didn't catch up.

Yunnan Normal University and Yunnan University are very close to each other. After seeing the natural scenery of Yunnan University, I came here to see the history. The gate of Yunnan Normal University is very inconspicuous. The old school gate is very historical. When you go inside, you will feel that this school has a literary and artistic style. There is also an old man playing the harmonica in the garden. He was still playing it after we finished visiting the school.

The campus of Yunnan Normal University is not big, but it feels like a tourist attraction. The old classrooms are still preserved, and there is also a history museum, which is great.

It is on No. 121 Street, and transportation is very convenient. There is a bus stop on the left side of the door. You can take a double-decker bus to see Kunming and sightsee.

You can buy meal tickets for dining in the cafeteria. If you are not used to Yunnan street food, why not try it at the university?

By Lao Wang |

It's OK. It's about the same as Yunnan University. You can stop by and take a look.

By MKTH856 |

Different from the style of Yunnan University, Yunnan Normal University conveys more of a historical imprint. This is the former site of the National Southwest Associated University, where Mr. Wen Yiduo once worked. Coming here is more of a commemoration and recollection.

By Hidden Bamboo Hero |

Yunnan Normal University itself doesn't have anything particularly worth visiting. Of course, since the former site of Southwest Associated University is located on the campus of Yunnan Normal University, if you want to see the former site of Southwest Associated University, you have to go to Yunnan Normal University.

By Banana |

The Normal University was built on the site of the former National Southwest Associated University. I wandered around the campus and felt it was just average.

By Summer |

The scene at Yunnan Normal University truly astounded us!!! There were all sorts of top students!!! In the pavilions, by the lake, on the grass, on the roads, and in front of the teaching buildings, all filled with young people reading!!! We two, the two major underachievers, were completely terrified!!! Later we discovered that there were civil service exams taking place at both Yunnan University and Yunnan Normal University that day...

By August of Broken Acoustic Guitar |

Later, I went to Yunnan Normal University, mainly to visit the ruins of "Southwest Associated University". It was indeed full of cultural atmosphere and historical interest, but it was too small and I could feel it all after just a few steps.

By Idle people by the river |

The campus isn't large, but I went there with a pilgrimage-like spirit. It was all about Southwest Associated University. It boasts not only the Southwest Associated University Memorial Pavilion and monument, but also Red Candle Road, a statue of Mr. Wen Yiduo, and his cenotaph... Of the old site, only a row of classrooms and a well remain, but it was still Southwest Associated University. Groups of girls walked by, for their dormitories lay just across the old site. The 121 Memorial Hall is beautifully renovated, complete with martyrs' tombs and memorial trees. It's a truly awe-inspiring sight. The railroad tracks that Mr. Wang Zengqi once crossed to escape the alarm are still there, and the crossing has become a hub for affordable and delicious snacks. I'm sure he'd be delighted to know.

By Fang Ji Zheng |

Yunnan Normal University next to Cuihu Lake is inconspicuous to outsiders, and no one would think of visiting here without special reasons, but this is the former site of the famous Southwest Associated University.

The former site of Southwest Associated University is not very large. We arrived late, and the memorial hall was already closed. I heard there was a volunteer student tour guide. From my brief observation, the theme of the exhibition was quite different from what I expected.

I originally thought that the former site of Southwest Associated University should commemorate the optimistic teachers and students in the raging war, but it has become more of a place to commemorate "martyrs".

By Little-Han |

Its area is pitifully small compared to Yunda across the street, but a separate area is still set aside to commemorate its glorious past.

By KK |

It was March, and the campus was still quite quiet. The non-Japanese cherry blossoms were in bloom, though they hadn't fallen yet. The sun was setting, and I walked along the campus path, looking at the statue of Wen Yiduo and listening to the Chinese teacher talk about history. I was completely intoxicated and enjoying it!

By L7in |

Go through Wenhua Lane and cross the street to reach Yunnan Normal University, which is also the former site of Southwest Associated University. I don’t want to boast about this cultural heritage, but we really like to visit universities and museums in a city, so I highly recommend this place to experience history and cherish the present.

By 1983 |

Yunnan Normal University is located near Yunnan University, and it only takes about ten minutes to walk there. I was heading to the former site of Southwest Associated University. It was only when I arrived that I realized there were so many meaningful historical relics and the heroic deeds of these democratic fighters.

By Chacha wants happiness |

Yunnan Normal University is famous because it is the former site of Southwest Associated University. The whole campus is very quiet, especially the former site of Southwest Associated University, which always makes people feel awe. The only classroom left in the former site is cleaned by a dedicated person every day.

Yunnan Normal University is not far from Yunnan University, so I stopped by to take a look. After I went in, I asked a classmate and found out there was a famous photo spot there. I kept looking for it but couldn't find it. I asked a classmate again, and he covered his mouth and laughed and said, "Look, you're standing on the railway." I looked down at my feet and laughed my ass off. It was just because there were small stalls selling snacks there, and as a foodie, I was glued to the food.

By It's Ah Fei |

Crossing Yieryi Street, you'll find Yunnan Normal University. Actually, I wanted to visit the ruins of the National Southwest Associated University. It's a small place, but there's also a memorial hall where you can learn about the life of Wen Yiduo and his colleagues.

Yunnan Normal University is also known as Southwest Associated University. What impressed me most was an abandoned railway that runs through the university.

From the west gate of Yunnan University, cross an overpass and walk a short distance to see Yunnan Normal University. Yunnan Normal University does not have so many ancient Chinese and Western buildings, but more volumes of anti-Japanese history.

By Rabbits don't meow |

In the modern history of Yunnan, there were two schools, one civil and one military, both of which were very famous. The "military" school referred to the Yunnan Army Academy, and the "civil" school referred to Southwest Associated University.

There is a small exhibition hall in the old site that displays relevant historical materials. Outside the exhibition hall are the cenotaphs of Mr. Wen Yiduo and the four students who died.

By The mood of watching the scenery |

The memorial hall of the National Southwest Associated University, once the most famous university in China, is located here (free). Such a place with a literary and historical atmosphere is of course a must-see. The Southwest Associated University Memorial Hall in Yunnan Normal University has a dedicated volunteer tour guide.

By Looking North |

The campus is very quiet. Walk a short distance and turn right to reach the former site of the United Nations University. Even in the morning, you can still see groups of students at the site. Cultural heritage truly enhances a university. There are fewer tourists in the morning, so I planned to explore on my own. However, upon entering the museum, I saw a charming volunteer introducing the museum to a group of Taiwanese families, so we followed them as they walked and looked around.

Its predecessor was the National Southwest Associated University Teachers College founded in 1938. There is a tombstone of Mr. Wen Yiduo here, which is really full of emotion.

Yunnan Normal University is the former site of Southwest Associated University. The architecture here is very charming, especially the Roman columns, which look very majestic. When we went there, the cherry blossoms were almost all fallen, and the fallen petals were all over the ground, which was also a unique artistic conception, and it reminded me of Daiyu burying flowers.

Yunnan Normal University, the former site of Southwest Associated University, has a fascinating history, with many statues and monuments of historical figures. However, the buildings and greenery inside are far inferior to those of Yunnan University.

It was once the most famous university in China and the alma mater of Yang Zhenning, Li Zhengdao and Deng Jiaxian. The ruins of Southwest Associated University, the tomb of Mr. Wen Yiduo and the Southwest Associated University Memorial Hall are all indispensable parts of Kunming's cultural tourism. Learn about this most outstanding university in Chinese history, where Wen Yiduo, Liang Sicheng, Lin Huiyin, Zhu Ziqing and Shen Congwen taught, and whose outstanding alumni include Yang Zhenning, Li Zhengdao and Deng Jiaxian.

By Think_CissY |

Walk along Wenhua Lane to the street corner, cross a pedestrian bridge and walk for a few minutes to reach Yunnan Normal University. You can ask your classmates for directions along the way.

The school gate was under repair and there was no one checking anything at the gate, unlike universities like Peking University, Tsinghua University and Xiamen University where people had to queue up to show their ID cards for registration.

By brothernine |

The current Yunnan Demonstration University, located on 121st Street in Kunming's Wuhua District, is the site of the then-Southwest Associated University. The street's name evokes the 121st Movement. Walking onto the campus, one can vaguely sense the weight of history.
