At the entrance to the cave, there's a square plank road stretching over a hundred meters. This plank road, also known as the "Silver Cliff Sky Corridor," is carved into the natural rock and features a square hole, hence the name. The path leads to scenic spots such as the Knife Cave, Cloud Bridge, Upside-Down Golden Bell, Plum Blossom Cave, and the Gathering Immortals Pavilion. The cave isn't a penetrating cave as you might imagine; it's simply a recessed cave in the cliff face, housing a temple. From the base of the mountain, it appears as a square entrance.
In addition, there is a bridge suspended in the air in Fangdong. Most tourists are afraid to go there, but it is also a rare experience.

The Fangdong scenic area is highly recommended. It's a stone path built around a naturally formed cave in the mountain, offering 360-degree views. There's also a cable-stayed bridge built across the cliffs, with each side dropping nearly 60 meters. It's as thrilling as a glass plank road, and even the slightest gust of wind gave me a shiver. After the bridge, there's another mountain path leading to the observation pavilion at the top, standing alone and stubbornly. The two children seemed unfazed and composed. We debated for a long time about the way down. One group suggested descending directly from the pavilion, which was a rough road, but it seemed possible. Another group suggested backtracking. The children were most eager to take the new route. In the end, the adults, worried that their car was parked at the entrance to the scenic area and that they might end up lost and difficult to find, decided to walk back. The children were reluctant, but there was no choice but to follow us.
The weather improved, though not yet clear, but getting brighter. We drove to the Fangdong Scenic Area (Jingtian Lake). This area consists of a plank road carved into the cliff face, with a suspension bridge spanning two mountains. It wasn't particularly interesting for us, but it offered a bird's-eye view of the canyon village nestled among the mountains. Fangdong is also a religious site, having recently been renovated, and looks brand new.
The scenery of the "Square Cave" is still very good, especially the "iron cable bridge" at the bottom is very thrilling and exciting. The tour time is about 1 hour.
Transportation Tips:
Visiting the "Square Cave" is a bit troublesome because the entrance to the scenic area of the "Square Cave" is on the mountain. There are three ways to get to the "Square Cave":
① The most convenient and economical route: Whether arriving from the Visitor Center or from the Dalongqiu (Big Dragon Waterfall) deep within the Yandang Mountain Scenic Area, you must transfer to a free minibus at Lingyan. This shuttle will take you along the winding mountain road to the entrance of the Fangdong Scenic Area, allowing you to visit the Fangdong without having to walk a single step. At the Lingyan transfer station, the minibus leaves as soon as it's full, so even if you wait, the wait is minimal, ensuring peace of mind. Many people cross the iron chain bridge and return to the entrance, then take the minibus back to Lingyan to transfer to a special tourist bus to other attractions.
② The most expensive route: Tell the driver you want to take the cable car to the Fangdong Cave. The driver will stop at the cable car entrance at the foot of the Fangdong Mountain, where there's a sightseeing bus stop. The cable car costs 40 yuan one way and 60 yuan round trip.
③ The most strenuous route is the mountain path leading up from the entrance of the winding mountain road to the "Square Cave." However, if you ascend after 7:00 AM, it's best to purchase your "Square Cave" ticket at the foot of the mountain. There are guards on the mountain who will check your tickets, otherwise you'll have to turn back down after finally climbing. Unless you pass the ticket gate before 7:00 AM, then congratulations! You can visit the Square Cave for free. However, the cable bridge and the stone cave on the cliff face don't open until 7:30 AM. Both the stone cave and the cable bridge seem to have gates at the entrance. The mountain path from the ticket gate to the foot of the mountain takes no more than 30 minutes. It's very easy to walk, with no side roads, and is probably the same path that local villagers used to climb the mountain.
Why do I know this so clearly? Because I took the free minibus up the mountain, then crossed the cable bridge and continued walking forward. I saw a small pond "Tianxin Lake", then went down the mountain along the mountain path, waved the minibus at the entrance of the winding mountain road and returned to "Lingyan".
I went to Yandang Mountain five years ago in 2014. At that time, the ticket office for the Fangdong Scenic Area was on the roadside below the ticket office (Figure 5). You can go up the small stairs in Figure 6 and climb a dirt slope to enter the Fangdong Scenic Area. After visiting the Fangdong Scenic Area, climb over the railing not far from Tianxin Pavilion (Figure 4) and go down the mountain to reach the Lingyan Scenic Area.
These two routes were free back then. I wonder if they are still accessible now.
If you understand it as a hole, I don't think it's very interesting, but if you think of it as a path carved out from the edge of a cliff, it's quite interesting.
This is a rather unpleasant place. There's no bus going up, so you either take the cable car for 40 yuan per person, one way. Or you can take a streetcar up for 20 yuan per person. The same price is the same for coming down. The entire area consists of a plank road along the cliffside that takes about 20 minutes to walk. If you take the cable car up and down, plus the entrance fee, it costs 120 yuan per ticket. If you want to save money, you can climb up. The path is covered in horse manure, like a wild hiking trail, and you have to return the same way. Old ladies on the roadside will force you to buy something. If you buy something for one person, another old lady will insist. Even if you tell them you've already bought something, they still won't let you go and keep dragging you to buy something. It's really annoying. How can such management be listed as a 5A? I don't know what to say.
I was just passing by and saw it was so high, so I didn't have the confidence to go up.
Located in Yandang Mountain Scenic Area, the scenery is pretty good
I took my kids on foot the entire way, walking up and down the mountain. I didn't take a cable car or a car to the entrance of the scenic spot. It was very easy to walk. Don't listen to those drivers who solicit passengers on the roadside. It's not tiring at all. This scenic spot is considered to be a good scenic spot in Yandang Mountain. The scenery is nice.
Yandang Mountain boasts a scenic spot, a suspension bridge common in many scenic areas. It's not particularly thrilling or unique, but the plank path carved along the rock face offers breathtaking views of the craggy rocks and breathtaking scenery. Figures 5-9 are: Golden Turtle Welcoming Guests, Iron Fist Peak, Pigsy Carrying Sun Wukong, and Gourd Peak.
Fangdong is one of the scenic spots in Yandang Mountain. It is located halfway up the mountain and has a very nice view.
There is only one path to the Fangdong Scenic Area. You can either climb up from the back door (east of the scenic area) or drive to the main gate (east of the scenic area). The cable car is also at the main gate. I hiked up and down the mountain for 1.5 hours.
Before arriving at Yandang Mountain, I'd always heard friends talk about the peril of Lingyan Rock and the wonder of Lingfeng Peak. But upon arriving, I was captivated by this square cave. It's perfectly balanced, with three dripping springs within. At the entrance, a plank road stretching over a hundred meters, carved into the cliffs, is incredibly steep. The scenery along the way is breathtaking and breathtaking...
There's also a suspended bridge in Fangdong, which most tourists find intimidating, but it's a truly unique experience. The scenery is beautiful, with views of the rice terraces, and you can walk across the cable bridge for free.
We chose to drive directly to the top of the mountain, which saved us money on the cable car. Otherwise, it would take a long time and energy just to climb the mountain.
Fangdong is a place where you can enjoy the scenery along the edge of the cliff and walk all the way to a cable bridge. The cable bridge connects the two mountain tops and is relatively stable. I am afraid of heights, but I still walked back and forth. Because of my fear of heights, I didn’t dare to look at the scenery under the bridge, but it is said to be quite beautiful.
The scenery is pretty good. Just return to the original route after reaching the iron chain bridge.
I think Fangdong is worth visiting. It is the best scenic spot in Yandang Mountain.
Because Sanzhe Waterfall and Jingming Valley are close to each other on foot, the first stop was Fangdong.
As the saying goes, the sky changes every ten miles. The mist shrouded the mountains, seemingly fleeting. Fortunately, the branches still shone with vibrant colors, living up to the image quality of the SLR...
If you don't want to backtrack, I recommend taking the bus and getting off at Fangdong Road Intersection, then walking up. You'll need to walk a bit before you reach the ticket office. The ticket price is 40 yuan per person, and you can pay by cash or WeChat. Whether you're hiking both ways or taking the cable car, it's recommended to start from this point, as the path is difficult and uneven, with gravel, making it dangerous to injure your feet if you're going down. The scenery along the way is quite nice. Further in, you'll see a suspension bridge and a temple, and then you'll reach the cable car ticket office, which is also the entrance to the Fangdong Scenic Area. You can choose to take the cable car down to the Fangdong Cable Car Station, or walk down the mountain. Cars can only reach the Fangdong Scenic Area entrance ticket office, so this is the least recommended option.
The highlight was the suspension bridge. The cliffs on either side were high, and the bridge was long, making walking on it incredibly thrilling! You don't have to walk to the end, as there's nothing to see, and you'd have to backtrack. There's a cable car down the mountain. There's nothing inside the Fangdong Temple.
It didn't take long to visit the scenic spot on the afternoon of the first day of the new year, but the bus was jammed because of the peak season.
The cable car is only enough for one trip. The other way down the mountain is more convenient.
Travel and food cost about 100 per person
Some of the unique mountains and rivers are really nice, but it is a pity that I didn’t see the clear river water and waterfalls because of the dry winter.
The cable car is impressive after all it is very high...very intimidating
I also recommend Haotai B&B on the pedestrian street. The price is affordable and the hostess is very friendly. The decoration has a unique charm.
The entrance fee for the Fangdong Cave is NT$40. It's one of the best spots in Yandang Mountain. The cave itself is mostly a hole cut into the middle of the mountain, with a wooden bridge in the middle. From there, you can see the village below and the distant mountains.
It's suitable for taking children for a stroll. There are not many places to eat at the scenic spot, so you must eat well before going up the mountain.
It's really beautiful when I come here early in the morning! It's even more beautiful when there are fewer people.
There's a 5-yuan bus service to the top of the mountain from the Lingyan Scenic Area entrance. Alternatively, you can hike up the mountain from Fangdong Road Station or take the cable car from Fangdong Cableway Station. The ascent is short and can be completed in under an hour. There are many man-made caves and a cable bridge spanning two peaks. The village below and the mountains in the distance are both beautiful and well worth a visit.
You can take the cable car to Fangdong for 40 yuan one way and 60 yuan round trip, or you can take the scenic area bus from Lingyan to the upper entrance of Fangdong Cableway Station, which is only 5 yuan, which is very cost-effective. If you only enter and exit from the main gate, most of it is actually flat ground. The plank road is right on the cliff with beautiful scenery. The large suspension bridge is also very exciting. The whole journey takes about 2 hours.
The most famous attractions in Fangdong are the Fangdong Cable Bridge and the Cliff Plank Road, both of which have great views!
Square Hole
Located west of Lingyan Scenic Area, the cave boasts three dripping springs, each containing drinkable water. At the entrance, a plank road stretching over a hundred meters, carved into the cliffs, is so steep that many people hesitate to attempt it. Railings have been added in recent years to provide a sense of safety. Visiting on a rainy day offers a breathtaking view of the misty rain, a truly unique sight.
It is a very good scenic spot in Yandang Mountain. It requires physical strength and courage.
When entering the scenic area, you first walk along the plank road and then cross the floating bridge. The scenery is very beautiful.
I like the Fangdong suspension cable bridge the most. It is great for taking photos.
I recommend Fangdong, Lingyan, and Lingfeng Scenic Areas. I'm quite disappointed with the Forest Park. I advise you not to go.
The square cave has a wide view, the iron chain bridge is very distinctive, there are few tourists and the scenery is beautiful. Self-driving tourists do not need to take the cable car, so it is worth a visit.
Fangdong is a cave on a cliff in the mountains. In front of the cave entrance is a man-made plank road. From a distance, it looks like a snake clinging to the rock wall. It is estimated that walking in it will be exciting.
The cable car at Fangdong Scenic Area is currently out of service for renovations. There are currently two ways to get there: one is to take a minivan from the Lingyan Scenic Area entrance for 5 yuan to the west gate, which is the gate I passed yesterday on the winding mountain road. The other way is to walk up the plank road to the east gate. You can also walk along the winding mountain road to the west gate. I chose the plank road.
After getting off at Fangdong Road Station, walk up the winding mountain road. You will soon see a well-maintained staircase. Follow the staircase and you will reach the ticket office in about 20 minutes.
Entering from the west gate, you will soon see the suspension bridge. After crossing it, there is a plank road on the cliff, which leads to the east gate of the scenic area.
Walking along the cliff plank road, you have the illusion of being in the air. Shamao Peak and Guanyin Peak are even more majestic against the backdrop of white clouds and blue sky. Guanyin Peak, in particular, is like a snow-free version of Kawagebo.
While feeling relaxed and happy, you can also listen to the birds singing on the rock wall. I just sat down and watched them playing idly. This was my first time taking pictures of birds.
There is a plank road of more than 100 meters at the entrance of the cave, which is built on the cliff and is very steep.
I went there with my friends. The scenery was stunning, especially the suspension bridge. We went to Fangdong primarily to see the bridge. We were thrilled when we arrived. We discovered a mountainside housing complex. Walking up a few stairs, we could see the remains of the people who had lived there. The stove was built into the ventilation vent. Just beyond that, we found the suspension bridge. Haha, we took tons of photos.
This scenic area is mainly composed of plank roads and small caves. It is not strenuous to walk on foot. You can take a direct shuttle bus from Xiaolongqiu to the scenic spot without taking the cable car. The scenic area bus costs 5 yuan per person and can be taken directly to the entrance of the scenic area. Do not take the local black car. The whole play time is about an hour, and it is also suitable for the elderly. Well, it takes a longer time to go down the mountain and the physical exertion is a bit greater. If you do not return from the original route, you can walk down the mountain. You will pass by a pavilion on the way down the mountain. It takes about 25 minutes to go down the mountain.
My visit happened to be foggy, but I saw a completely different view of Fangdong, a truly unforgettable experience. Walking across the suspension bridge, I couldn't see the other side, and looking down, I couldn't see anything either. It felt like entering an unknown world, but I didn't feel scared, I felt excited. I'll definitely go back when the weather is nicer to see a different view of Fangdong.
Fangdong is also a highly recommended attraction with great scenery. The iron chain bridge is very stable, and the view of the terraced fields from above is unique.
Note: You can drive directly to the parking lot in Fangdong, but you need to take the cable car if you want to travel independently. However, there are also shuttle buses to Fangdong from Lingyan Scenic Area.
I didn’t know how to get to the Fangdong Scenic Area. There seemed to be a car, but we didn’t take it. We came down from Dalongqiu and took a car to the main road to Fangdong. Then we took a small road, which was very difficult. This time it felt like climbing a mountain.
The ticket management here is quite strict. There are people in charge at every angle. You need to buy a ticket at the back door and then go up. You will see the Fairy Lake, which is not very big. Then you will pass by the pavilion. This pavilion feels like it is at the top, and you can take pictures of the more beautiful scenery.
Then I wanted to take the cable car. It wasn't thrilling at all. It was very solid. There were so many people coming and going that many people were scared, so they walked slowly. I didn't have a chance to take pictures properly. They were worried that if I took pictures, the people behind me would do the same... The cable bridge was a good place to take pictures, especially after crossing the cable bridge, the road behind was inside the cave, which was a great feeling.
If you walk further, you will see a temple. You can go inside to worship devoutly, or just pass by it without going in. You can also buy food on the mountain. If you are hungry, there is also a small shop nearby where you can replenish yourself or rest for a while on a chair. Look down the mountain. This is the only place in the scenic area where you can see the scenery below from the top of the mountain.
Besides the thrilling cliff plank roads and high-altitude cable bridges, walking on them gives you a panoramic view of Shanglingyan Village and Xialingyan Village. The rural villages are peaceful and tranquil. When the sunrise comes after the rain, you can even see the flowing sea of clouds, with the village looming below, creating a paradise on earth!
The Fangdong Scenic Area is mainly a road halfway up the mountain, with a mountain on one side and a cliff on the other. Although the scenic area is not large, the scenery is very special.
Fangdong feels dangerous, beautiful, secluded and green. I went there on New Year's Eve and felt very comfortable.
We didn't turn back. It would have been very tiring. The driver told us to turn back after reaching the suspension bridge because there weren't many good views further ahead. But we ignored him. It took us twice as long. The way down the mountain from the back gate was difficult. There were almost no people around.
Located west of Lingyan Scenic Area, Fangdong Cave boasts three dripping springs, each containing drinkable water. At the entrance, there's a 100-meter-long plank road, also known as the "Silver Cliff Sky Corridor." This path, carved into the natural rock, features a square cave, hence the name. It's a pleasant walk, with a section of the mountain path offering views of fields and houses. It was a bit foggy when we visited, making the distant view hazy.
A very famous scenic spot in southern Zhejiang, it is very popular, has beautiful scenery and is worth seeing.
Of the three wonders of Yandang Mountain, this is my personal favorite. Standing on the cliffside plank road, you can see half of Yandang Mountain. Another reason to recommend it is that it makes up for missing out on the closure of Wolong Valley and Broken Heart Cliff in Lingyan Scenic Area. The scenery from here is identical to that from Wolong Valley, but with a wider view and a more complete view. Do you see that turtle? It's a welcoming turtle, welcoming friends from afar. It's truly lifelike.
I went there for the cable bridge. There were too many people except during holidays. I felt very accomplished climbing the whole way by myself. The scenery was very good.
Fangdong is one of the few places in the core area of Yandang Mountain where you can overlook and see the scenery of Yandang Mountain from a high vantage point! You can take a cable car or a winding mountain road to get there, which takes about 45 minutes. I often walk there on my own. The road to Fangdong is carved into the mountain, so the view is really good. If you encounter heavy fog, you will feel like you are in a fairyland, haha. Remember to walk on the sky bridge, it is quite exciting!
There is a bus to the square cave at the entrance of the Dalongqiu scenic area. The square cave can be climbed by rope or by yourself. The two entrances are different. If you start from Dalongqiu, you first go to the rope entrance and then to the climbing entrance. This time I chose to walk by myself to experience the mountain stream after the rain. However, from the foot of the mountain to the entrance of the scenic area is a winding mountain road, you need to take a car to go up. There are vans below, 10 yuan per person, if there are many people, you can bargain.
The Fangdong Scenic Area is not very big. You just walk up along the stone road. The most attractive things are of course the plank road and the cable bridge.
There are many people taking photos on the suspension bridge, but I really want to remind everyone not to gather in one place. This time I encountered a small group of people standing on one side, huddled together, and it felt like the bridge was about to fall to one side, which was very dangerous.
Fangdong is quite meaningful here. There is a square cave and the place where the 1986 version of Journey to the West was filmed. There is also a sphinx and a chain bridge. There are many classics here. You can also see the town below.
Pioneer Square Cave, when going up, it is all winding mountain roads, a bit like the mountain roads of Nanjing Tulou
Small streams abound here
I walked along the plank road on the mountain and looked down at the beautiful scenery around. I liked the iron chain bridge very much.
There is a very long iron chain bridge in the Fangdong Scenic Area, and the swallows circling in the mountains give people the feeling of a martial arts world.
Fangdong Scenic Area is very close to Dalongqiu, and the drive takes about 5 minutes. In autumn, the red leaves covering the mountains are very beautiful.
The Fangdong Scenic Area is actually on the mountainside. Some natural caves were artificially excavated and connected in series. The biggest attraction is the iron chain bridge connecting the two mountains.
The scenery is beautiful and the tickets are affordable, but it is inconvenient to go up and down the mountain. You need to rent a car or take a cable car.
You can take the cable car to get to Fangdong, or you can charter a car to get there. If you take the cable car, you will have to pay an additional 60 yuan for the cable car fee, so you can save most of the cost if you charter a car.
The whole way was accompanied by such beautiful scenery. I really felt that I had made the right decision and was in a very good mood. The scenery in the clouds and fog was really breathtaking.
We walked along the small mountain road for about 20 minutes, maybe 30 minutes, I can't remember exactly. Anyway, the mountain road is not dangerous. It was raining when we went there, but we were fine.
The suspended cable bridge is wobbly and it's quite exciting to walk on it.
I'd heard Fangyan was developed by locals, so I figured it wouldn't be that great. Plus, the cable car ride up and down costs 60 yuan, so I hadn't planned on going. But a taxi dropped us off at the entrance, saving us the 60 yuan cable car fee. It was a waste of time. The entrance fee is 30 yuan, and with a student ID, 15 yuan. Since I wasn't particularly interested, I turned back halfway through.
I think our luck was really good this time. It happened to be drizzling, and we could use an umbrella or not. We did see the hazy scene of mist and rain. When we leaned over the railing and looked down, we could see small villages under the clouds. It was like a paradise!
Because of the fog, the main thing to do in Fangdong is the iron chain bridge. Of course, as a group of young people, what can you do on the bridge? After I got off, I kept feeling that the whole solid surface was shaking and I couldn't calm down for a long time.
The area is named after a square cave carved into the cliff. The winding stone path is very unique and worth a visit. You can choose to hike or take the cable car.
This hanging ladder is called Tongtian Bridge. It is very interesting. The more people there are, the more the ladder shakes, and the more it shakes, the louder people scream. The timid ones can only climb or dare not move.
The landmark attraction of Fangdong, the suspension bridge, would be even more perfect if there were some clouds and mist. Are you scared standing so high up? Many little girls are still afraid.
The Fangdong Scenic Area is on the road between Lingyan Scenic Area and Dalongqiu. I went there in 2004 by cable car. Actually, there are not many sights there, and the plank road is not very dangerous, but the suspension bridge is very exciting.
It's a man-made mountain road that goes along the mountain. The scenery is pretty good, but the cable car and tickets are a bit expensive.
The cable bridge in Fangdong is still worth visiting, but it is quite a distance from the foot of the mountain to the entrance of the scenic area. We were exhausted after walking up. Of course, you can choose to take the cable car..
There was fog on the day we went there, making the cable bridge appear and disappear. Looking up from the bottom of the mountain, it felt like a fairyland. When we got to the top of the mountain, we felt like we were in the fog and didn't know where we were going.
Yandang Mountain is a rare scenic spot with a cable car. I recommend buying a one-way ticket. I bought a round-trip ticket and walked down...
First take a bus to the foot of the mountain, then walk through the village to the hiking trail. Most people go up directly by cable car, or you can drive to the middle of the mountain.
The only highlight is the suspension bridge. Every tourist who comes here will take a photo.
A bridge clearly visible from the foot of the mountain. A 40-yuan ticket is worth 30 yuan. The cable car is next to the square cave. A true square cave isn't a through-hole cave as you might imagine; it's simply a cave recessed into the cliff face, housing a temple. From the foot of the mountain, it appears as a square entrance.
