Although the Root Carving Art Museum is located in an inconspicuous location, I strongly recommend everyone to come and have a look. It is suggested to list it as a must-see place because it houses nearly 500 works by root art sculptor Mr. Zhang Zheng, many of which are large-scale works. What impressed me most was the huge root carvings in the last exhibition hall. It was shocking. On one side were monkeys of various shapes and lifelike, and on the other side was a majestic and lifelike dragon (qiu). It was both majestic and exquisite, which made people applaud.

This place has been included in the Guinness World Records and tourists are prohibited from taking photos.

This is really highly recommended, the visual impact is super strong, it is the place that impressed me the most when I went to Xitang. It is located off the street, and the huge tree roots as high as two stories are carved into various shapes. Some are complete and some are double-sided. Taking pictures is not allowed. I highly recommend it. You can enter with a ticket.

The root carving is very exquisite, and the treasure of the town hall has been certified by Guinness. It is worth a visit.

One of the attractions in Xitang combined ticket, I have no knowledge of root carving art, and I just came out in a hurry

The Root Carving Museum is a relatively unique attraction in Xitang. The root carvings on the first floor are quite nice, but photography is prohibited. Overall, if you come to Xitang with the intention of sightseeing, you're bound to be disappointed. Having visited several ancient towns, the ticketed attractions in Xitang are quite average by comparison, just the best of the best. Xitang is a great place to relax, drink tea by the river, listen to music, and unwind.

By Cape of Good Hope |

Zhang Zheng's Root Sculpture Art Museum is a tourist attraction in Xitang and also charges admission. The museum displays more than a hundred of his sculptures, which have been recreated by him to be vivid and lively!

Outside a ticket gate, the root carving is great! Recommended

By Fish blowing bubbles |

The wonders of nature combined with human craftsmanship have created many beautiful things. Photography is prohibited inside the museum, so I won't post any photos here. The root carvings inside are still amazing and worth a visit!

By Before seeing |

The houses in Xitang Town are all so elegant, and this art gallery is no exception. Its two small floors are filled with Mr. Zhang Zheng's root carvings, including many of the museum's most treasured treasures. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, I couldn't take photos. Root carvings are truly about observing the natural flow of the sky, and the artist's imagination, with a third of the people involved. The soaring nine dragons and majestic lions all leave a deep impression. Overall, while root carvings in Xitang might not seem to perfectly align with the charm of this ancient Jiangnan town, it's still worth a visit.

The exhibition hall is quite large and the exhibits are all relatively fine. Very good

Zhang Zheng Root Carving Art Museum is one of the attractions in Xitang with a combined ticket. In addition to a collection of many root carving art products, it also has many root carving works that have been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. They are spectacular and very delicate. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the Root Carving Art Museum, so I didn’t take any pictures. There are two floors inside, but many tourists only visit the first floor. But in fact, there are also many small root carving works on the second floor. The second floor also has Zhang Zheng’s personal life journey and the development of root carving art. Zhang Zheng’s life journey is very inspiring, so you must go to the second floor to take a look.

By Bard |

The root carving skills are amazing but most people just look at them and don’t buy them.

By A Leaf Ferrying Across the Sky |

It is a scenic spot worth seeing. I was shocked by the root carvings at the entrance. I didn’t expect that the root carvings could be so exquisite and spectacular. The effort spent on them is really beyond the imagination of ordinary people.

By Nabis |

I went there with a combined ticket. Maybe it was because I had seen several root carving exhibitions elsewhere before. I thought this one was okay. There were a few good ones. However, the light in the room didn't seem particularly bright. If you have time, this is still worth a visit.

By Ding ding ding |

It's shocking. It's a pity that we are not allowed to take pictures. But if we take pictures, we won't feel as shocked as we actually saw it.

By Edge of Star |

I was shocked and loved it, but unfortunately I was not allowed to take photos...

By Elk |

It's a shame we can't take photos, but let's capture these beautiful root carvings with our eyes and hearts. The exhibit features artworks carved from tree roots, each with its own unique shape and slow, life-like form. It's impossible not to marvel at Zhang Zheng's mastery and the beautiful treasures nature has left us. The double-sided pieces are truly stunning and breathtaking. Every piece is truly magnificent.

By 521 |

It's a very nice place. Every root carving is very beautiful. It should be considered one of the wonderful attractions. There are no particularly good attractions here. This one is worth seeing. I am really shocked by the craftsmanship. The hands are so skillful.

Zhang Zheng's Root Carving Art Museum is worth visiting. The works inside are so exquisite that it is amazing. I really admire his craftsmanship.

By xiaozhugeli |

It's very beautiful and artistic. If you like it, you can go and have a look.

By Jenna |

The carvings of various small tree trunks, the trunks and branches are very thin, very magical

By Candy |

Zhang Zheng Root Carving Art Museum has more than 500 large-scale works listed in the "Guinness Book of Records". You are not allowed to take photos of the root carvings inside. Although I don’t know much about this, it is still worth it to feast your eyes on it.

By entty10 |

You are not allowed to take photos of the wood carvings, but the master's works are really amazing

By Shadow ☡ |

The root carvings are great, but it's sparsely populated, not very lively and boring. I also don't like the fact that they don't allow taking photos. Although I understand, not allowing photos is like seeing it for nothing. How can you promote it if you don't allow taking photos?

By Protect your dream and don't let it break |

"Root carving, one of the traditional carving arts of the Han ethnic group, uses the spontaneous and distorted forms of tree roots (including tree trunks, tree knots, bamboo roots, etc.) as the subject of artistic creation. Through conception, artistic processing, and craftsmanship, artistic works such as figures, animals, and utensils are created. Root carving art is a plastic art that discovers the beauty of nature while displaying creative processing. The root carving technique emphasizes "three parts artificial, seven parts natural", which means that in root carving creation, the natural form of the root material should be mainly used to express the artistic image, with auxiliary artificial processing and modification. Therefore, root carving is also called "root art" or "root art." ←←From Baidu From me→→ Root carvings are made according to the shape of natural tree roots. A single mistake can ruin all the previous work. A piece of work takes about 4-10 years, so no photos are allowed. Out of respect for art, I really didn't take any photos. Before I started, I thought it was just a rough shape of animals, etc., but when I looked closely, I found that even the small details were carved into patterns. The little monkey is super cute.

By Ailsa |

There are many distinctive root carvings inside, which are really exquisite.

By Abao loves to complain |

It's quite shocking, hand-carved, very delicate

By empty space |

I bought a ticket and it was very detailed and lifelike. It was pretty good.

By Yam loves meat |

It is also a tourist attraction in Xitang. It seems that there are such wood carving exhibition halls in the ancient town.

I visited Tongli and Wuzhen. Xitang was the first place I went to. I followed the tour guide and listened to the introduction along the way.

There are quite a lot of exhibits inside, including some very large root carvings that are also very beautiful.

By Smile. |

Photography is not allowed inside Zhang Zheng Root Carving Art Museum. After much deliberation, I decided to be a civilized person and not take any sneak shots. The root carvings inside are simply amazing! ! ! ! It's really worth going in to see!

By badboyszhjb |

The root carving art is really exquisite! But we were not allowed to take pictures, and the staff kept staring at us, which felt weird!

By Junjun's Cat |

You can go and have a look, as a way to learn more about something you didn’t know before, just like I never knew that artworks carved out of tree roots were so beautiful!

By ben021005 |

The Root Carving Museum is a relatively unique attraction in Xitang. The root carvings on the first floor are good, but you can't take photos. In general, if you come to Xitang with the idea of visiting attractions, you are doomed to be disappointed. I have been to several ancient towns, and the attractions in Xitang that require tickets are really average. They are just the best among the dwarfs. Xitang is suitable for drinking tea by the river, listening to music, and relaxing.

Root sculpture artist Zhang Zheng, whose ancestral home is Shucheng, Anhui Province, is a Hangzhou native. Born in 1958, he moved to Xitang in 1999 through a talent recruitment program. Master Zhang's works are 70% natural and 30% artificial, with over 500 of his large-scale works inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records. For his exceptional craftsmanship and fearlessness of hardship, Master Zhang has been recognized as a "Son of the East" in the World Who's Who.

This root carving museum is well worth a visit. It's very artistic and the carvings are very lifelike. With the guide's explanation, it's a wonderful experience. The most impressive one is the root carving of Tang Sanzang and his disciples. The White Bone Demon is hiding in the mountains, staring at Tang Sanzang with infatuation. I believe she is deeply in love with Tang Sanzang, not wanting to eat his flesh.

By If I recall - I am already lost |

It's the first time I've seen a root carving work. It's very beautiful. No photos are allowed in the museum. There are a few aunts next to remind you to stop and appreciate it.

By Monster S |

The introduction says that "there are more than 100 root carvings by the famous root carving artist Zhang Zheng in the collection", but in fact there are only a few pieces and photography is not allowed.

It's big enough! Big peacock, big lion, they are all very big! No photos allowed

By Earthly Grass |

One of the attractions in Xitang Ancient Town, a bunch of boring museums

By Mint |

I feel that except for the wooden staircase and the root carving... Is it real or fake? I can't tell it apart if I don't have a rich imagination.

By Longing for Pear Blossom Tears |

The entrance fee to Xitang Root Sculpture Art Museum is included in the entrance fee to Xitang Scenic Area. The museum is small, so friends who are interested in root carving can visit it.

By jinhengli1 |

This must be recommended. Taking photos is not allowed inside. My major is art-related, so I am very interested in this kind of thing and it is shocking.

By Lingling |

This also requires a ticket. My mother and I didn’t have tickets because we came too early and tickets were not sold at that time.

By Snow on the tiles |

The root carving works in Zhang Zheng's Root Carving Art Museum are still eye-catching and make people marvel at the master's skills.

By Suyi |

Oh~ It’s this root carving that is not allowed to be photographed. I remember that the service staff advised us not to take pictures with our mobile phones.

By Xiaopang |

It seems to be free. The root carvings are large, but also very delicate. I recommend taking a walk. There are not many places to walk anyway.

By gf1134 |

Art, an absolute treasure, it's eye-opening, but I'm a little disappointed that they don't allow taking photos.

By Tao Xiaotao |

The location is not easy to find, but the exhibits are very cool. It's a pity that taking pictures is not allowed, and there are people following you upstairs and downstairs.

By Dark |

The carvings made from tree roots are so lifelike, so lifelike, so beautiful...
