Hi all,
Just after some advice RE southern Lombok trip if possible please :-)
Is there a big difference between Gili Asahan and Gili Gede or the hotels Amahelia/Kokomo? Indication for travel- time with my partner/couples travelling. Also keen on Scuba diving for a few days.
After GG or GA looking at Selong Belanak.
Thank you for any tips RE southern Lombok to anyone that has suggestions for a couple looking for some us time without the kids :-)
I'm keen to know too as the south western Gilis have avoided me thus far though do remember having them recommended to me over the years.
I can imagine them to be a more idyllic version of the northern Gilis but obviously with less crowds as they're a bit more off the beaten path which in my books is only a good thing.
You'll definitely enjoy Selong Belanak as the beach & vibe is nice. Make sure to check out Laut Biru restaurant which is at the end of the warungs behind Sempiak villas. They make a mad pavlova. It's owned by a Kiwi/Indo couple.
awesome thanks for the pav tip!
Did you end up going to Gili Gede or Asahan? Any tips… going Sept
Hey I went to Gili Asahan. Amahelia is a nice resort but it does back directly onto the local village and the private pool room we had was pretty noisy from about 4am with roosters +++. Was trade off to have pool at the resort. Alternatively eco lodge resort would probably be quieter as it's a couple of properties down from the village but it doesnt have a pool, or if you have a large budget then Bleu Mathis. The problem with Bleu Mathis is that you don't have close access to other restaurants etc where as from amahelia could walk to eco lodge and visa versa also from either of these hotels the only dive centre on the island will pick you up directly in front where as they won't pick you up from Bleu Mathis. Overall it's a small island but gorgeous diving and lovely staff at amahelia. We had a great week. Bring ear plugs.

Edited: 1 year agoHave been to both. Kokomo at Gede is lovely but the island is not. Very limited in choices for dining outside of Kokomo, beach is not nice and the other side is just a big dirty fishing village. Could not fault Kokomo though.
Gili Asahan has beautiful tree shaded beaches and more places to stay/eat/get a massage. Amahelia was very nice but lacked some customer service. Also the bungalow we stayed in had an outdoor bathroom fenced with bamboo poles with gaps in the poles and people wandering past constantly. The bed was also very hard, I probably would choose somewhere else to stay on Asahan.
Hi we’re booked to stay at Pearl Beach Resort on Gili Asahan… any feedback? Is the snorkeling better than the northern Gilis and worth the trek down there?
Hi,
The snorkelling from Pearl Beach Resort is really good, as the reef is just infront of the resort.
We stayed there for 5 nights and loved the place and the staff.
Asahan is a lot quieter than the northern Gilis, so we'd say definitely worth the trip down.
Snorkelling is different. We saw turtles on the northern group, but then saw a seahorse on Asahan. Others saw turtles though. The coral is better at Asahan and the resort is endeavouring to encourage new growth.
