How much to tip a guide and how much to tip a driver per day on a private tour in Rajastan and South-East India?
Thx in advance.
It depends on what guide. Not necessary. For driver if you are happy with the driver 300-500 per day is a good tip
Tipping always depend on his services. If you are happy with guide services then you can give 1000-1500 INR minimum (per day), and maximum no limits. And for driver 500-700 INR.
Thanks

Tipping is a personal nature expense. It depends upon the service satisfaction and clients' budget. Nothing is fixed. Generally, driver is eager to provide maximum service to their clients in seek of good tip and also expect with them.
You have an idea in above posts and do the best suitable to you.

Tipping In India Advice:
Drivers: A tip of between Rs 200/ 400 per day is reasonable. To put it into perspective, a driver in India will earn between Rs10,000 and Rs 15,000 per month so you can see that the tip is a significant salary supplement.
You may be with the same driver for several days and they can be invaluable help in getting the most from your trip, so weigh up how useful they have been and if they have followed your instructions. They can guide you to restaurants etc. On the other hand, they take you to un-requested tourist shops which can cause considerable detours and wasted time.
Guides: Rs 200/500 per day for a personal guide is a reasonable range. Again, judge whether they have been working in your interests or if they have taken you to shops when this has not been requested.

Pls keep in mind, if the driver/guide bring you to the tourist shops to get his commission, in this case you can skip or give just a little tip on the end. These kind of tourist shops are expensive or very expensive.
An honest driver/guide will ask you beforehand if you are really interested and will not rush or force you to go there. A dishonest driver/guide won't ask, he'll just take you there or try to force you to go there, and you may miss an attraction or it may already be closed.
This is not just a problem in India, but all over the world, especially in many Asian and African countries. Besides, there are nice and helpful people in India.
India is not US, the general rule is: only tip if the service was satisfactory!
Enjoy this wonderful, wonderful country and its delicious cuisine.

//$15/ 20$ a day for guide//
$15/ 20$ a day for driver/guide – is very good amount for whole family, with very good services, Tips - it totally depends upon the quality of service.
a driver in India will earn between Rs10,000 and Rs 15,000 per month (very less amount) so you can see that the tip is a significant salary supplement.
They have whole family responsibility (house expenses, kids education & some personal expenses) if you get best services and you are happy, then you can gives any good amount
You can tip guides/driver in any currency.

Indians do not tip other Indians, but tourist do.
Most of tourists from other countries than US or West Europe do not tip in India and will surrive. Tipping or not thats absolutely your wish. Theres no compulsion.
In India, people work for wages not tips. If they knew that they can't make enough money to run their lives by wages alone, they wouldn't be working at all. They don't depend on tips. They know their pay, they work it, they live by it. So they are less desperate to get a tip.
Some Nationalities look on tipping as paying the workers wages directly out of their own pocket and are more than willing to do that. The owners of these establishments or agencies love that scenario and see it as a excuse not to pay their staff any wages which increases their own profit. That should always be remembered when showering obscene amounts out in the form of a tip, unless everybody tips at the same rate the servers can often be exploited by their employers, who use it as a excuse not to pay them a salary.
Btw, in other countries, such as East Africa, some local travel agencies stopped paying the salaries of employees who received high tips from tourists. Some tourists do not tip because they come from countries where they do not tip, it is not in their culture. They can get really poor service.
Let’s check a tipping guideline from the local travel agency, India Someday:
Multiple day car hire or guide:
Many of our trips include multiple-day car hires with their own drivers, who accompany you anywhere between a few days to a few weeks.
Base your tip on the number of passengers in this instance:
For 1 or 2 passengers, tip between INR 300 to INR 600 per day. So if you had a driver for four days and were very happy you can tip him INR 2,400.
For 3 to 5 passengers, then tip between INR 500 to INR 800 per day.
There have been instances when our drivers have absolutely delighted our guests. The driver has taken them to their village or house, told great stories, and overall taken great care of them. Do feel free to tip above this guideline if you feel like your driver deserves it. There is absolutely no issue with that!
Tipping Guides:
You should tip a guide between INR 100 to INR 300 per day. This dependson your level of satisfaction with the guided tour. If it is a group tour then per person INR 50 to INR 100 is a fair tip.
In terms of tipping guides for a more personalized tour, it really depends on how happy you were with the tour and the service. We suggest a wider price range of INR 300 to INR 1,000 (happy to absolutely delighted).
