Hello,
I am not much into snorkeling but would love to just visit Komodo and Padar islands.
Most of the boat trips I’ve chanced upon online offer almost full-day excursions (~5:30am pick up and 4:30pm drop off) and invariably involve snorkeling at at least 2-3 locations. I love walks and short hikes eg. the trek on Padar up the hill and short strolls on pink beach are appealing, but this 56-yo man would like to be perched in the shade or on deck with a tipple in hand after a little bit of the former activity rather than repeated bouts of frolicking underwater with manta rays and the like.
So other than booking a private customized tour for myself, do you think I would be able to find some watered down versions of the standard packages that perhaps last only 3-4 hours instead of the standard 7-8 hours? —or would this be too much (or too little!) to expect?
I think all those snorkel session are filler activities. however well intentioned they may be.
the main risk with nonstandard itinerary is they may not run everyday or you have to charter which gets expensive when you cant find 6+ to fill the boat
their standard itinerary doesnt even include Rinca , which boggles my mind. It is always one fewer site than expected, but I can understand the motivation bc it forces one to take more than one boat tour. or in your case, a nonstandard half day tour is less profitable.
You can do that only if you arrange it privately.
CasaKemara, did you find a half day tour that covers just the Komodo and Padar islands?
Long boat ride so halff day not really the done thing.
. Not an unpleasant boat trip unless windy. The whirlpools between islands are a sight, hope you have skilled boatman. Treacherous. Incidents happen with alarming frequency. heck safety of boat. Anne;s website has a full page on the dangers of boating ion Komodo.
