Bookings via wechat mini program

Hi,

I have managed to set up my wechat account using my home country's number.

However, when I tried to book forbidden city and Mao's memorial hall, it says that my number is not valid/the format is incorrect.

Does any foreigners here (without local Chinese number) managed to book thru wechat?

Thanks!

There are things in China that don't work without a Chinese mobile number.

The way out is to get a Chinese SIM or find a Chinese friend to book for you or head yourself to the ticket office. The last option is said to work at some places but perhaps not all.

Only Chinese mobile phone numbers can receive messages. I can help you with that.

The crucial part of booking as a foreigner,is get a working Chinese simcard, and use it to receive the booking certify code. Then things will be quite easy, just follow the steps on the wechat mini program of the museum you want to visit.

Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback. It's challenging for me to get a Chinese number when I'm still not in China, and wants to secure the booking (worried it may be booked out when I arrive).

I have no luck with Mao's memorial hall, but managed to get the booking for Tiananmen via wechat, and Forbidden City via the official website : https://intl.dpm.org.cn/index.html?l=en. It took some time for the English site to work (it was not loading yesterday, but other languages were working). This site needs a confirmation code via email. I paid via Alipay, as my WISE card transaction did not go through when I tried to book via the French site yesterday. Hope this helps for any foreigners trying to get a ticket for Forbidden City!

I encountered the same problem, if you book via Wechat mini program you must use a local phone number. However you could simply go to the official website (beijing palace museum) and book using email address instead. Just make sure you select the English user page and register and login using your email. Get your visa / Mastercard ready, good to go!
