Am I crazy to visit Taiwan for the first time during this week in May?Plum Rain? Etc. I am coming off a dive trip from the Philippines and decided to tour Taiwan for a week before heading back to USA. I am a very experienced female senior traveler that likes art, culture, hiking in Nature. More questions to follow about itinerary and hotels. Plan to spend about 3 days in Taipei and 3 days somewhere in nature for hiking, small villages. Thanks!
I can't comment on the likelihood of rain in May because of the changes in the seasons. However, there is plenty of art, culture and nature in Taiwan to fill a week. Because you only have a week I would be inclined to base yourself in Taiepi and get into the country on day trips. Also, Yangmingshan National Park, which is within Taipei, has plenty of long day walks. Wulai is another area worth visiting on a day trip.
Thanks Aussiman. So not worth it to base myself somewhere else for 3 days? Want to get out to nature and small villages.
Suggest staying in the quaint villages of Pingxi or Shifen. Explore the villages by the Pingxi railway branch line. Many hiking trails and waterfalls in the area. Hike Xiaozi and Putuo Mountains near Pingxi Station.
