Busan and Gyeongju or just Busan with daytrip to Gyeongju

We are planning a visit to South Korea, end of March to mid April. Itinerary (to tie in with expected cherry blossom dates) at the moment is Seoul (2 nights), fly to Jeju-do (4 nights), fly to Busan (2 nights), bus/train to Gyeongju (2 nights), train to Seoul (4 nights). Is it better to stay in Busan for 4 nights and just take a day trip to Gyeongju or 2 nights each place?

I would double check on the attractions you wish to visit in those two cities.

Personally I'd suggest 3nights Busan and 1 night Gyeongju (for 2 full days if possible) just for convenience.

I too think 3days3nights for Busan is better, since most of the sites in Busan are in its suburban areas quite far from city center. You will need Metro+bus to cover the distance. Using Kakao T (Korean version of Uber) would make the trips much quicker. I did see Uber in Busan, but rare. As for Gyeongju. I took train there in the afternoon from Busan. After arriving and diner, I walked to Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond for night view, and went across the main road to see the Observatory. The next day, I took bus to Bulguksa Temple (didn't go the shrine somewhat nearby). Then took the same bus back and got off at the National museum. After museum, I walked back to the city center en-route Gyochon village and the Tomb Complex, which was the highlight of Gyeongju visit for me. Then I took train in the late afternoon to Andong for Hahoe village the next day. Then on the following day, I took KTX from Andong to Seoul. Maybe my itinerary could give you some ideas.
