Where to stay

We’re flying into Singapore on 16th March and out on 30th April, at the beginning and end of a holiday. We won’t know the exact lengthy of stay in Singapore until we get there and don’t want to spend a lot of money. (Preferably between $SP 100 - 120). We don’t want dorm accommodation. We’ll be visiting family in the northern part of the Bukit Batok area and would hope to be fairly close. Any ideas gratefully received.

How many people are there? Bt Batok is a residential area. There aren’t many hotels in residential areas, let alone budget ones. Genting Jurong is the closest but it is out of your budget. Fragrance Ocean View is in the near NUS/West Coast but you have to take a bus to get to the MRT station. Budget hotels like Fragrance have extremely small rooms with possibly no windows and it will be tough staying for more than a few days in such a small space.

Are you holding a Singapore passport? Otherwise without proof of onward ticket, you can’t enter Singapore.

By small, I mean no space to open your luggage fully and little space to hang and store your clothes.

Budget hotels in a similar location as Fragrance Ocean View are The Quay West Coast and Ibis Budget West Coast.

Harbour Ville is another budget option. The rooms are newly renovated but the location is closer to Harbourfront and again it is not very near to the MRT station.

Further (near Novena/Newton) but around the same price point is Hotel Royal. The rooms are spacious but the hotel is old. It takes about an hour to get to Bukit Batok station from Novena station, longer if you need to transfer to a bus to get to your relative’s place.

"We won’t know the exact lengthy of stay in Singapore until we get there "

This can be a problem as when you fill in the SG Arrival Card you need to state the arrival and departure dates , accommodation address as well as an immigration requirement is to have an onward ticket.

It may not always be the case but it is often cheaper to book an hotel in advance rather than last minute.

“This can be a problem as when you fill in the SG Arrival Card you need to state the arrival and departure dates , ”

This is not really that important in the sense that plans can change and travellers are not bound to what they declared eg if they change the departure date after arriving, there is no need to amend the details submitted previously.

Thank you. V helpful re places to stay
