Temple of the Sacred Tooth
Good afternoon we will be in Kandy beginning of August . What’s the best time to visit Temple of Sacred Tooth ? Rather avoid too many crowds . I understand if you buy tickets on the day there will be queues- roughly how long would they be as advanced tickets are quite a lot more expensive . Will the Perehera affect this - more/less busy ? Many thanks
During perehara days you can’t enter the temple after 2 pm, as all the roads around the temple premises will be closed. Regarding entrance ticket price there is no difference as I know. You better avoid weekends and best time is morning, I would say 6-10 am.
More busy than usual.
Edited: 5:57 am, July 27, 2025If you are in Kandy during perehera time, don't even think of going to the TOT. I would rather avoid Kandy completely during that time. Crowds are massive, and hotels are super expensive.
Oh well we are already booked in and didn’t realise Perehera was on !
