Hi Evan,

You can get on the spot, but not cheap. But I would focus on the transport: are one-way taxis cheaper for your plans (including on the days in e.g. Sigiriya and Galle) or is a roundtrip driver/guide cheaper? If the latter then book one, and no need to worry about guides per location as the driver doubles for this.

Thankyou

I just didnt want guide to be with us 24/7.

Well a driver/guide is not. He drops you off before dinner time and appears again next morning after breakfast.

Thanks

I've used a good guide book for many sites. Some have very detailed descriptions and maps, drawings or photos. More than enough detail for me.

How do you get around.

I ride a bicycle. Probably not for everyone.

On my first visit in 1980 I travelled all over the island by public transport. Possible, cheap, but harder work.

You can hire guides locally at each site, but if you want consistency and easier travel between cities, it’s better to have one guide/driver for the whole trip. This way you save time, avoid arranging guides at every stop, and get local insights throughout your journey.

Thankyou
