Airport to Crowne Plaza , Kowloon East, Tseung Kwan O.

I see that you can get a bus from the airport to our hotel the Crowne Plaza in Tseung Kwan O.

There will be 7 of us travelling.

The A22 bus goes half way to Wylie Road in Kowloon, where we change to the 795X bus for the remainder of the journey.

A couple of questions if I may.

Does the A22 get packed and do we have somewhere to store our luggage on the bus?

Does the 795X get packed and will it have somewhere to store our luggage? Is the 795X a frequent bus?

or

Should we just get an UBER or Taxi from the airport?

There’s a direct service A28 from the airport hourly from 11-20am to 00-20 every day to LOHAS Park which stops at Tsueng Kwan O Station (stop 26), above which Crowne Plaza is located;

Airport buses can be crowded, but all you need to do is wait for the next one. These buses are designed for flight passengers, so of course they have room for luggage. Local buses, not so much.

#1) With so many people and luggage, you want to avoid a transfer at all costs. Take ST’s suggestion and go with bus A28. Trade time for inconvenience.

#2) If 1 hour worst case is unbearably long to wait, take A29 bus and ride to the end. Po Lam MTR Station. (MTR is Hong Kong’s subway/metro.). Then transfer to MTR and ride for 2 short stops to Tseung Kwan O MTR Station, where your hotel is on top of. This is a more convenient transfer, bus to MTR, than bus to bus.

What they said above - 7 people with luggage is not going to work on a regular bus - only the airport buses have luggage racks. Get the A28 direct to Tseung Kwan O, or if the wait is too long then the A29, either to the end at Po Lam, or even to stop #19 at Nan Fung Plaza which is opposite Hang Hau MTR - only one stop back to TKO.

Thanks everyone. I think the group want to get the train. Train to Hong Kong station, walk to Central station, train to North Point, train to Lohas.

Is this a better option than the bus?

Good Lord. If it were me, I would choose the one-seat bus ride any day, rather than that very cumbersome rail routing, which includes a very long walk through tunnels between Hong Kong Station and Central Station. Except for the Airport Express, Hong Kong's other trains are crowded (usually standing room only) and they have no place whatsoever for luggage. The airport buses are large, comfortable and have ample luggage racks. Whoever is advocating for the rail route has clearly never been in Hong Kong.....

Depending on what time your flight arrives the hotel does operate a shuttle bus from Kowloon Station. I stayed there last year and planned to use this, but, unfortunately my flight arrived late and I didn’t make the pick up time. I completed the journey via Hong Kong Station - Central (Island Line blue) - North Point - Tseung Kwan O (purple line). I did have a large suitcase but it was fairly easy and there are lifts and escalators. Hotel is a short walk through the shopping mall from the MTR station and is clearly sign posted.

On departure I caught the hotel shuttle back to Kowloon Station.

Lovely hotel and had booked to stay there in April 26 but received an email to say they were rebranding to Royal Garden Kowloon East in January and would cease to be part of the IHG brand. As I have status with IHG I have decided to transfer over to CP in Causeway Bay instead, disappointed not to stay in TKO again.

"Thanks everyone. I think the group want to get the train. Train to Hong Kong station, walk to Central station, train to North Point, train to Lohas.

Is this a better option than the bus?"

Put simply, no. The bus will be quicker, have better views (get upstairs seats at the front if possible), involves no changes (assuming you get the A28), and will be substantially cheaper.

That train solution is just masochistic considering there's a comfortable direct bus (where you will pretty much always have a seat).

The change from Hong Kong Airport Express station to Central MTR Station is at least a 5 mins brisk walk, depending on the crowds. It can be VERY crowded down there during rush hour, with lesser crowds most of the rest of the day.

Then the MTR itself: can be VERY crowded, and especially the central section of the Island Line which you're taking is crowded most of the day, except late evening basically. Standing only. Same accounts for the second leg of your journey. I recall the North Point change is not even same platform, not sure as it's never been a typical route for me.

So long story short: just take the bus, have a seat, and enjoy the views. Amazing views along the way: the green hills of Lantau, the views across the sea from the Tsing Ma Bridge, and the views over Kowloon (yes, over: you're high up the slope) towards Hong Kong from the Lung Cheung Road section of the trip. Or a taxi, that's about the same cost as your rail adventure.

For TKO, other than a taxi, the best option is to take the bus. The other options just don't make any sense.
