However, in tourist areas of Bangkok, prices in general are up, as they will be on Samet – notably hotel rooms and hotel food. Businesses are still trying to claw back the money and capital lost during Covid.

Tourism seems to have concentrated in the most well-known tourist spots. I find that outside of there, the country is still good value for money, with plenty of places to stay from 1000 baht down.

As for being more touristy – about 29.92 million tourists visited Thailand in 2015. whereas 33.5 million are expected this year – not a huge difference

Chet #3…my post is in plain, easily understood English. What is it that you don’t understand?

Hi Debbie, we have been going for the last few years having gapped it for other destinations for decades before that and still find it cheap. We were in Samet for a few nights this July for the first time and very much enjoyed that. We stayed in a mid-range/budget type of place right on the beach (Apache). We had an a/c bungalow 1 row back but still with a sea view for about 1400B. The food was better than expected and the staff were friendly, charming and helpful. We had a whole sea bass for 2 for about what you would pay for 1 burger and fries in the west at a beach location. Great value we thought and a stunning location. Happy travels

Thanks very much

I notice a lot of entrance fees have shot up in the last year or so, some have doubled. A lot of information online is out of date.

Hi Debbie,

I would say it is still very cheap. Though the economics of exchange rate have changed a bit, but I would consider your pay would have gone up too in the meantime  so no worries. Koh Samet is beautiful. You can find top of the line market hotels for 1000-1400B easily.
