I’ll be traveling up from Wisconsin. Here’s my plan, too much for one day? We have a family member in wheelchair so we won’t be walking very far but hope to see the top sights. Also am I going to regret not going to Copper Harbour and Marquette.
Arrive Escanaba for overnight. Drive to Munising, Pictured Rocks, Route 58 East to Grand Marais, Paradise & Whitefish Point, Tahquamon Falls, Soo Locks spend the night St. Ignace. Is that too much for one day? Thanks
Your proposed itinerary through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for one day is extremely ambitious, especially considering you’ll have a family member in a wheelchair. The UP is beautiful but distances between major sights are long, and many of the highlights require some walking or short hikes, which can be challenging for limited mobility. Attempting Escanaba → Munising → Pictured Rocks → Grand Marais → Whitefish Point → Tahquamenon Falls → Soo Locks → St. Ignace in a single day would likely be overwhelming and very rushed.
Here’s a breakdown of your planned stops and considerations:
In short, this plan is likely too much for one day if you want to enjoy the sights and accommodate mobility needs. You would spend most of your day driving with very little time to appreciate each location.
Suggestions for a more manageable trip:
Overall, you won’t necessarily “regret” missing Copper Harbor and Marquette on this trip—they are wonderful—but including them would require several more days. It’s better to enjoy fewer locations fully, especially with accessibility considerations, than rush through too many in one day.
