Harrahs or Tropicana-which should I pick?

Looking to book a junket from Pittsburgh to Laughlin, for $178 for 2 of us how can I not, lol! Anyway, last time I was in Laughlin, Harrahs was the only Caesars hotel there. And we've stayed there and I know I like it and I know that it's away from everything else. But we like taking the water taxi so that's cool. Question is, how does the Tropicana compare? Is it better? We tend to spend a lot of time playing video poker at the bar so having that option is a consideration along with a decent room and food options.

Thanks!

If you’re choosing between Harrah’s and Tropicana in Laughlin for a junket stay, both properties have pros and cons depending on what you value most — convenience, atmosphere, gaming options, and dining.

Harrah’s Laughlin

  • Part of the Caesars chain; generally familiar layout if you’ve stayed there before, which can make navigation easier.
  • Located slightly away from the bulk of Laughlin’s strip, so it tends to feel quieter and less crowded, which is nice if you like a more relaxed vibe between gaming sessions.
  • Water taxi access is convenient, but being away from the center means you may rely more on the taxi or walk for certain activities along the river.
  • Video poker at the bar is available, and the casino tends to cater to slot and table game players with decent coverage of video poker options.
  • Rooms are modern, comfortable, and often updated, with various dining options onsite — buffet, casual, and sit-down restaurants.

Tropicana Laughlin

  • Located closer to the center of Laughlin’s riverfront area, making it easier to access other casinos, shops, and riverfront attractions.
  • The atmosphere can be livelier, with more foot traffic and events happening nearby, which is nice if you like being in the middle of the action.
  • Video poker is available at the bar as well, though you may find slightly fewer options than Harrah’s depending on the section of the casino floor.
  • Rooms are decent, but some visitors note that the décor may feel slightly dated compared to Harrah’s newer updates. Still, comfortable enough for a short stay.
  • Food options are solid — including buffet, casual, and a few sit-down restaurants — but some people prefer Harrah’s dining variety.

Considerations for Your Junket Trip

  • If you prioritize familiarity, quieter surroundings, and a slightly larger or more modern casino floor for video poker, Harrah’s may be the better choice.
  • If you prefer being in the center of Laughlin’s activity, closer to other casinos and shops, and enjoy a livelier atmosphere, Tropicana could be more fun.
  • Since you’re interested in water taxi access, both properties have riverfront access, but Harrah’s may require a slightly longer ride to reach other stops.
  • Given your $178 junket deal for 2, either choice is a strong value, so your preference for atmosphere and familiarity may be the deciding factor.

Overall, for a short getaway focused on video poker and comfort, Harrah’s is generally considered slightly better for relaxed play and updated amenities, while Tropicana is great if you want to be in the heart of Laughlin’s action. Either way, you’ll have good gaming, decent rooms, and food options for your trip.
