Logan transportation

We'll be landing at Logan Dec 5th at 8:30pm. Are taxi's readily available or do you recommend hiring a car service? We don't want to do Uber/Lyft.

Also, how much can we expect to pay from the airport to a hotel in Salem?

Thanks

Arriving at Logan Airport at 8:30pm, you will find that taxis are generally available at the designated taxi stands outside each terminal. The airport operates 24/7, so even in the evening, there should not be a problem securing a taxi. However, because it is a peak travel period with winter traffic and holiday-related demand, there may be a short wait.

If you prefer a guaranteed ride with no waiting, hiring a private car service in advance is a good option. Many services offer flat rates and monitor flight arrivals, which can be helpful if your flight is delayed or if you have luggage to manage.

Regarding the cost to Salem:

  • Taxi: A standard taxi fare from Logan to Salem typically ranges from $70 to $90, including tolls and tip. Exact pricing can vary based on traffic conditions, especially during evening hours.
  • Private Car Service: Booking a car service in advance may cost around $90–$120, depending on the provider and vehicle type. This often includes luggage handling, meet-and-greet service, and sometimes gratuity.

Additional considerations:

  • Traffic between Boston and Salem in the evening is usually moderate but can increase if there are events or accidents.
  • Salem is approximately 16–20 miles from Logan Airport, and the drive typically takes 35–45 minutes under normal conditions.
  • Booking a car service ahead can give peace of mind, especially if traveling with family or heavy luggage, and avoids the potential hassle of waiting for a taxi late in the evening.

In summary, taxis are available and convenient, but a pre-arranged car service offers predictability and comfort. Both options are reasonable, with private car services slightly more expensive but often worth the extra cost for stress-free travel.
