We have an extra day from visiting both sides of the park (8 days) and were looking at Kootenai Falls & Swinging Bridge, from Hampton Inn in Whitefish. It looks like a two hour ride on Rt2. Any thoughts?
Visiting Kootenai Falls and the Swinging Bridge is a great way to spend an extra day during your time at Glacier National Park. While it’s about a 2-hour drive from Whitefish, it's a beautiful and rewarding day trip worth considering, especially if you're interested in exploring some of the lesser-known gems in the area.
The drive along Route 2 from Whitefish to Kootenai Falls is scenic and offers a chance to see more of Montana's stunning landscapes, including forests, rivers, and mountains. The falls themselves are quite impressive, and the Swinging Bridge offers a unique and thrilling experience to get a closer view of the river and falls from above. It’s definitely a must-see if you're looking for an adventure outside of Glacier’s main attractions.
Things to Keep in Mind: - The trail to the Swinging Bridge is short and accessible, but if you're planning to do more hiking in the area, wear sturdy shoes as the terrain can be a little uneven. - The weather in this part of Montana can be unpredictable, so be sure to check the forecast before heading out, and bring layers for changing conditions. - If you’re visiting during the summer, it’s best to get an early start to avoid crowds and get the most out of your time at Kootenai Falls and the Swinging Bridge.
In summary, Kootenai Falls and the Swinging Bridge are absolutely worth the 2-hour drive from Whitefish. It offers a nice change of pace from Glacier National Park, and the scenic beauty combined with the unique experience of the swinging bridge will make for a memorable day trip. Enjoy the adventure!
