Maine Trip Portland vs Augusta

Hey Maine experts,

We’re looking at stop options for 1 night travelling between Conway NH and Bar Harbor. We’ve looked and think our likely options are either a night in Portland or Augusta.

Please could you set out the potential pros and cons of each. The journey times looked relatively comparable, is this true even in August? Also as we are from the UK is Portland relatively easy to drive round if we did go with that option?
