We are looking at renting a house for a week during July 4 next year in the Miacomet & Hummock Pond Road area . Any comments on this, since this is our first time renting here? We realize that it is not super close to downtown. Is it tough to get to the beach from here? The house is the correct size for us, and has a pool so the family is excited. Thanks in advance for the help. Looking for a house with 5BR, etc. thanks!
The Miacomet & Hummock Pond Road area is a lovely choice for a rental in Nantucket, especially for families. While it’s not as close to downtown as some other areas, it has several benefits that make it a good option for a relaxing vacation.
Location and Convenience: Miacomet and Hummock Pond Road are more residential and quiet, which is ideal for those looking to escape the crowds of downtown. You’ll find this area is somewhat more laid-back, which could be a perfect balance for your week-long stay. However, as you mentioned, it’s a bit farther from the downtown area, which means getting to shops, restaurants, or other attractions will take a bit of time (about 10-15 minutes by car, depending on traffic).
Access to the Beach: As for getting to the beach, Miacomet Beach is relatively close and a great option for the area. It’s about a 5-10 minute drive from Hummock Pond Road. If you're up for a little more of a walk, there are other beaches you can access as well, though they may require a bit of driving or biking. Since the house has a pool, you may find that you'll spend quite a bit of time there, but if you do want to visit the beach, it’s definitely doable. Most of the beaches in the area are accessible by car or bike, and parking can sometimes be limited during peak times like the July 4th holiday, so be prepared for a possible wait at busy hours.
Neighborhood Vibe: The Miacomet area has a more relaxed and suburban feel compared to the hustle and bustle of downtown Nantucket. It’s perfect for families who want a quieter retreat with easy access to outdoor activities, and the pool at your rental will be a great bonus for downtime at the house. The area is also close to some excellent hiking trails, golf courses, and nature preserves, which could be great options for outdoor activities during your stay.
Things to Keep in Mind: While the house size and pool are great for a family, just keep in mind that July 4th week is one of the busiest times on the island. Traffic can get congested, and parking can be more difficult at popular attractions or beaches. It’s best to plan accordingly if you want to visit those spots during peak hours.
In conclusion, the Miacomet & Hummock Pond Road area is a fantastic choice for families who enjoy a quieter, more private experience with the option to drive to the beach and other attractions. The house sounds like it will provide a wonderful retreat for your family, and you can expect a peaceful and enjoyable stay in this part of Nantucket!
