Macau late night transport back o Zhuhai?

Hello! Is anyone familiar with Zhuhai and Macau?

We land on June 25 and have a late night concert in Galaxay Arena Cotai Macau. We are deciding either stay in Zhuhai or Macau to avoid too much hotel switching with two kids.

However I read there is no uber and taxis in general and very hard to find in Macau? And some taxis may like taking the long way to get more costs.

Hengquin Zhuhai seem closes to the cotai area as we thoughtjht of staying there. Or gongbei but seems further. Assume border control open 24 hours.

Cotai hotels require two rooms and those are expensive . Staying other parts Macau I was afraid no taxi at 11 pm at night.

If we stay Hengquin can we use the lotus light rapid to take at 11 pm/12 am to border? We the. Plan take a didi back to hotel…

Any advice? Thanks

Hi! Navigating late-night transport between Macau and Zhuhai can be tricky, especially with kids. You are correct that Uber is not available in Macau, and taxis can be inconsistent late at night. Here’s a detailed breakdown of your options and considerations.

Staying in Macau vs Zhuhai:

  • Staying in Cotai or central Macau is the most convenient for your late-night concert at Galaxy Arena. However, hotel costs for two rooms can be high.
  • Staying in Hengqin (Zhuhai) is an option, but you’ll need to cross the border late at night and rely on transport options like the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) or taxis/Didi in Zhuhai.
  • Gongbei area in Zhuhai is closer to Macau’s border, making it easier for crossing and potentially better access to late-night transport.

Transport from Hengqin or Gongbei to Macau late at night:

  • The Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) on the Cotai line stops running around 11:00 pm to 12:00 am. If your concert ends around 11 pm, you might be cutting it very close to catch the last train.
  • Border checkpoints like Gongbei are technically open 24 hours, but late-night queues can be long, and crossing with kids may be tiring.
  • Didi or local taxi in Zhuhai can take you to the border or across if you pre-book. In Macau itself, taxis after midnight can be scarce, so relying on one immediately after a concert may be risky.

Practical suggestions:

  • If your priority is minimal stress with kids and safety, staying in Macau, even outside Cotai, may be worth the cost for one night. Central Macau hotels (near Taipa or Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro) can be more affordable and still allow walking/taxi access to Cotai Arena.
  • If staying in Hengqin, check LRT schedules carefully and have a backup plan with pre-booked Didi or taxi to ensure you can reach the border after the concert.
  • Consider booking a late-night shuttle or hotel-arranged transfer if available; some Cotai hotels provide this service for guests.

Overall, late-night transport is feasible but tight. Staying in Macau will reduce stress and avoid crossing borders late with children, while staying in Hengqin is possible but requires careful timing and pre-arranged rides.
