Access to Kapalua Coastal Trail from Napili Bay beach

I will be staying at Napili Shores A building in late October. Wondering if it is possible to access the Kapalua Coastal trail from Napili beach area? It looks like it may be possible to get to the trail by walking through the Napili Kai property, but I don' know if that is allowed. Thank-you!

Napili Shores is a lovely spot right on Napili Bay, and while it’s very close to the Kapalua Coastal Trail, direct access from Napili Bay can be a little tricky due to private property boundaries. The trail itself officially begins in Kapalua, near the Kapalua Bay and Ritz-Carlton areas, and public access is generally from the Kapalua side rather than from Napili Kai or Napili Shores properties.

Walking through Napili Kai to reach the trail is typically considered private property access, so it’s not officially allowed unless you have permission from the property management. Trespassing could lead to issues, so it’s best to avoid cutting through resort grounds.

Here are some options for accessing the Kapalua Coastal Trail safely:

  • Walk or drive a short distance north to the official trailhead near Kapalua Bay. There is parking available, and the trail offers scenic ocean views and easy access to beaches along the way.
  • Consider starting from the Ritz-Carlton or Kapalua Bay Beach area, where the trail is clearly marked and open to the public.
  • For a longer but scenic route, you can walk along the shoreline from Napili Bay towards Kapalua, staying on public beach areas until you reach the start of the trail. Be mindful of tide levels and private property boundaries.

In summary, while Napili Bay is very close to the Kapalua Coastal Trail, direct access through resort properties like Napili Kai is not permitted. The safest and most reliable way to enjoy the trail is to approach it from the official Kapalua Bay or Ritz-Carlton trailheads.
