Explore uninhabited areas. Once you’ve been to these places in China, you’ll never lack topics to make others envious!

Preface

West Lake, Taihu Lake, Qinghai Lake; Huangshan, Huashan, Changbai Mountain, you are still following the rules to go to the regular scenic spots and squeeze with the crowds, but you don’t know that nowadays, travel experts have begun to play in uninhabited areas.

No Man's Land refers to a long-term vacant area or an area unsuitable for human habitation. Because these areas are sparsely populated and full of mystery, they have become a "concentration camp" for some adventure enthusiasts.

While the phrase "no man's land" might sound intimidating to most people, is it really as unattainable as rumors or imaginations suggest? In fact, some roads can't be judged without first personally traversing them.

So, it's time to head out to the wilderness! Visiting any of these incredibly cool places will definitely elevate your social media presence!

Hoh Xil

"Hoh Xil," meaning "green mountain ridge" in Mongolian, is located in the northwest of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It's China's 51st World Heritage Site, spanning Qinghai, Tibet, and Xinjiang provinces. It's considered China's greatest wilderness! Its average elevation is 5,000 meters. Its highest peak is Bukadaban Peak in the northern Kunlun Mountains, at 6,860 meters. Its lowest point is Leopard Gorge, at 4,200 meters.

The climate in Hoh Xil is harsh, the natural conditions are adverse, and the oxygen content is less than half of that in coastal areas. In addition, its dry and windy nature, complex topography, snow-capped mountains and glaciers, and numerous rivers and lakes make it impossible for humans to live there for a long time. Therefore, it is known as the "forbidden zone for human life."

However, it is precisely because of this that the plateau wildlife has created unique living conditions, making it one of the nature reserves with the richest wildlife resources.

The most important thing to do when visiting Hoh Xil is to appreciate the beauty of the desert along the way and see the elves of the plateau. May and June are especially good times for the Tibetan antelope to migrate in Hoh Xil.

Every year in late October, when winter arrives in Hoh Xil, male and female Tibetan antelopes breed together. In the following summer, a group of female Tibetan antelopes line up and migrate to the heart of Hoh Xil to give birth.

During the migration, they have to face the sharp teeth of wolves at any time, and are afraid of roads and railways... They migrate hundreds of kilometers to Zhuonai Lake and Taiyang Lake because the altitude there is lower and the climate is milder, which is more conducive to the survival of Tibetan antelope mothers and children.

Although crossing the Hoh Xil has long been prohibited, a road from Golmud to Lhasa passes right on the edge of the Hoh Xil. Along the way, you'll pass Kunlun Mountain National Geopark, Wuji Dragon and Phoenix Palace, Kunlun Pass, and finally the Sonam Darje Monument. As the Hoh Xil is uninhabited, there may be no signal deep inside. For safety reasons, it's recommended to travel with a professional tour guide and driver.

Yunnan-Tibet Holy Land

Bingchacha

"Bingchacha", also known as the "Bingchacha Line", refers to the Bingchacha section of the Yunnan-Tibet New Channel, and is known as the "most difficult route to Tibet"!

"Take the worst road, see the most beautiful scenery, the more cruel, the more beautiful" is the common evaluation of people. Because here, you can experience the ultimate feeling of traveling between heaven and hell at the same time.

After all, this premier Tibet traverse offers unimaginable thrills! Despite the high mountains and treacherous waters, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and pristine. While thrilling, the exhilaration is unforgettable! Therefore, everyone who has traversed the Bingchacha section is incredibly proud of it. Furthermore, in May and June, the Xiongchula Pass is covered in purple alpine rhododendrons and vast expanses of rhodiola.

However, the well-known Bingchacha is not only dangerous in itself, but also famous for its uncertainty in driving. For example, in bad weather, landslides and falling rocks are very likely to occur. Therefore, it is best to have a reliable local driver to guide you when traveling to Bingchacha.

Qiangtang, Tibet

"Qiangtang" means "northern highlands" in Tibetan, specifically referring to the northern Tibetan Plateau, which is located in the northwest of the Qiangtang Plateau on the southern slope of the Kunlun Mountains. Its average altitude is above 5,000 meters. It is the highest step in my country and is known as the "roof of the roof of the world."

There is no human habitation within a radius of hundreds of miles here, and the original ecological appearance of nature has been completely preserved. There are even peculiar karst landforms, which makes people marvel that nature still retains such a magnificent primitive wilderness.

In the uninhabited area of the Qiangtang grassland, there is less than one person per square kilometer on average. If you take a step here, it is likely to be the first footprint left by humans.

Although humans cannot adapt to the living environment of Qiangtang, it provides the world's largest natural paradise for a large number of wild animals. Wildlife has truly become the "masters" of this place. Most of the animals living in Qiangtang are endangered species unique to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and are rare to encounter.

For every Tibetan tourist, Qiangtang is the ultimate dream. It's also the last piece of pure land many travelers long to visit in China. Tibet is a disease that can never be cured without a visit.

Mysterious Xinjiang

For Chinese people, Xinjiang is second only to the sacred land of Tibet as a province of mystery. Widely regarded as home to the most stunning scenery, it's a must-see for every Chinese person! Even a single visit wouldn't be enough! After all, within this vast, sparsely populated region lie two untouched secrets.

Crossing the Great Ocean Road

The more than 500-kilometer route west from Dunhuang through Hami to Turpan forms one of the most legendary sections of the Silk Road: the Dahaidao. As early as 1,500 years ago, this route was a bustling ancient Silk Road trade route. Its opening and use began during the Han Dynasty, but official use ceased after the Tang Dynasty, and it gradually faded from public view, becoming a mere memory.

Although the Dahaidao has long lost its function as a trade route, it still attracts explorers with its historical changes, the magnificence of the super Yardang landform and the mystery of the uninhabited area.

The biggest obstacle in traversing the Great Sea Road is the uninhabited area. Yet, despite its desolate, smokeless landscape, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful! Once you've completed the Great Sea Road, you'll deeply appreciate the endless charm left by the Silk Road.

Desert Off-Road

The Taklamakan Desert, meaning "the great desert beneath the mountains" in Uighur and often referred to as the "Sea of Death," is located in the center of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang, China. It is the largest desert in China and the largest mobile desert in the world.

A trip to southern Xinjiang without a trip to the Taklamakan Desert would be a major regret. Similarly, the desert sunsets are uniquely beautiful, and the ultimate thrill is off-roading. Once you reach the desert's edge, the dunes become increasingly undulating as you drive deeper, and beyond, there are still dunes. Since there's no signal in the desert, you can put your phone aside and enjoy the scenery.

It’s time to go to the deserted secret place, start a new niche way of playing, and look for the illusion of “unbridled wild horses” and yellow sand all over the sky.

Walking on the dam

The Bashang Grassland, located on the border of Inner Mongolia and Hebei, is a popular tourist destination in China during summer and autumn. But few people know that it also hides a little-known, uninhabited area.

The scope of the Bashang no-man's land refers to a large area north of the Bashang grassland, extending all the way to the "Huanggangliang", a remnant of the Greater Khingan Range. The area within a radius of hundreds of kilometers is a mixture of grasslands, sandy land, lakes, forests, and rivers, and is uninhabited.

However, the uninhabited area of Bashang is mainly composed of Hunshandake Sandy Land, Gongger Grassland, Huanggangliang, Xilamulun Canyon, etc., and is separated from Ulan Butong by more than 100 kilometers of grassland desertification zone and the accompanying mother river of Bashang - Xilamulun River.

Because the uninhabited area module involves the Hunshandake Sandy Land, the entirely desertified grassland sections can only be reached by traversing a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle. Once through the sand, the Bashang uninhabited area remains incredibly diverse and beautiful, a rare and undisturbed grassland secret.

Hiking in Shennongjia

Shennongjia, located in western Hubei Province, is a truly magical place. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the scenery is pristine and natural, and the temperatures are stable. In mid-May, azaleas bloom across the mountains, and the chances of witnessing a sea of clouds are quite high.

Shennongjia has always held an irresistible fascination for us. This magical land, with its vast, pristine forests, is also a kingdom of flora and fauna.

If you're looking to escape the crowds, consider hiking through the uninhabited area of Shennongjia's primeval forest. This three-day hike is filled with wild delights. Along the way, you'll find a variety of rare plants, almost unnameable, and moss-covered tree trunks. No supplies are provided during the hike, so you'll have to camp at night. Even without signal, the quiet symphony of nature provides a peaceful space for reflection.

Conclusion

The no-man's land is mysterious to us, but here, death and beauty coexist, mysterious yet magnificent and impermanent. If you want to explore, you need to appreciate the sparsely populated yet beautiful scenery while also being filled with awe in your heart. This is the only way to ensure the eternity of all things.
