A roundup of autumn viewing spots around Xi'an! Ginkgo trees, crimson leaves, reed marshes, pink muhly grass, and more!

Preface

When I came to Xi'an, Shaanxi, the first thing that came to my mind was the Terracotta Warriors and the Shaanxi History Museum, which are historical relics that have condensed the essence of five thousand years. However, its natural scenery also amazed me, not only because of the Qinling Mountains, a treasure trove, but also because each season has its own unique charm.

Of all the seasons, autumn is my favorite. It's not the scorching heat of summer, the gray skies of winter, or the lingering drizzle of spring. Instead, it's like the straightforward nature of the people of Northwest China: bright, warm, and refreshing skies, and vibrant mountain scenery reminiscent of an oil painting.

Autumn often arrives late in Xi'an, but with this autumn scenery checklist, you can enjoy ginkgo trees, crimson leaves, poplar forests, reed marshes, pink muhly grass, maple leaves, and more, ensuring you don't miss out on the most beautiful golden autumn. Let's follow Cucu and explore some of the best autumn viewing spots around Xi'an.

Ginkgo

When it comes to ginkgo trees, the first thing that comes to mind is the one planted by Emperor Taizong of Tang in the Ancient Guanyin Temple. However, don't underestimate Shaanxi, a land of great feng shui. Millennia-old ginkgo trees abound. Besides these thousand-year-old trees, there are also hundreds of acres of ginkgo forests that are bustling with activity in autumn.

Fire Crystal Persimmon

It's always been a hot-selling item in autumn. When Empress Dowager Cixi fled to Xi'an, she particularly enjoyed the local fire crystal persimmons and gave them the easily understandable name "yikouxi". October is the peak season for picking, and a local carton of over 20 small persimmons costs 10 yuan a box, which is very cost-effective.
