Changsha Travel Guide: This City is Crazy, Here Are Some Must-See Spots for Internet Celebrities

Preface

My childhood memory of Changsha was probably watching "Happy Camp" and thinking, "I want to go there to chase celebrities!" Later, I thought, "Why are there so many people lining up for Cha Yan Yue Se?" It must be delicious. Then, I thought, "Why do you have to go to the museum to see Lady Xin Zhui?" Then, I thought, "National Treasure!" There are few cities that inspire a second or even multiple visits, and Changsha is definitely one of them.

Changshacheck the details

Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, boasts picturesque scenery and a pleasant climate. Hunan Provincial Museum

<The Millennium Legend of National Treasure>

The Hunan Provincial Museum is a place I've already decided to visit before I even leave! I recently watched National Treasure and was captivated by it. I'm eager to see if Lady Xin Zhui is truly that beautiful. I'm following the traces of national treasures: the Changsha kiln celadon-glazed brown-colored poem-inscribed pot, the square jar, and the T-shaped silk painting from Xin Zhui's tomb.

The exhibition halls at the beginning of the museum all use blue as the design element, making the cultural relics look clean and bright, very suitable for taking pictures. The fern fossils, dinosaur egg fossils, these ancient fossils are all shocking.

The complete set of Miao costumes and headdresses is extremely ornamental, and I spent the most time here. The exquisite patterns and intricate carvings are truly impressive. I really wanted to wear Miao costumes and go to Fenghuang Ancient Town, but unfortunately I didn't have time to go this time.

The Dish-shaped Lei, known as the "King of Square Lei", is the largest, most exquisite and most complete square lei unearthed so far, but it also has the most difficult fate.

The body and lid of the vessel are placed in two separate spaces. The lid is in the Hunan Provincial Museum at different times, while the body of the vessel has been constantly transferred to France, Japan, and the United States at different times and spaces. The body and lid are separated and can never be reunited.

The red walls of the jade exhibition hall are elegant and simple, making the collections look particularly exquisite.

The ancient corpse from the Mawangdui Han Tomb (Lady Xin Zhui), known as the "Sleeping Beauty of the East," stood 1.54 meters tall and weighed 34.3 kilograms. Its preservation over 2,000 years ago has made it a legend in both archaeological and medical circles. Hearing the story of Lady Xin Zhui here is deeply moving.

Since Lady Xin Zhui’s body could not be photographed, the exhibits in the Mawangdui Han Tomb were not photographed much, but they are absolutely shocking!

Some people praise Mawangdui as the underground cultural treasure house of the Chinese nation and call it the "Pompeii" of the East. It is a well-deserved national treasure.

Changsha Museum

<A Pleasure for the Eyes in the Porcelain Kingdom>

I figured since I was in Changsha, besides the national museum, I had to see the city's highlights! First of all, the architecture was stunning, its elegant white simplicity undeniable. I happened to come across an exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasty porcelain, which perfectly matched the museum's overall style.

As a major exhibition celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Changsha Museum's new building, the "Dragon Soaring to the Ninth Heaven" special exhibition features 128 pieces (sets) of porcelain from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, showcasing the elegance of dragon-patterned porcelain used by the imperial court during these three dynasties.

Many treasures are on display, including the extremely precious Yuan Dynasty blue and white five-claw dragon pattern go jar, the rare Yongle blue and white plum vase with dark ascending dragon pattern, the exquisite Kangxi flower god cup, the noble and elegant Yongzheng famille rose and plum blossom plate, etc.

Changsha has gone through three thousand years, and the city name and location have remained unchanged. It is known as the "Hometown of Qu and Jia", "Famous City of Chu and Han", and "Star City of Changsha".

Among the twenty-eight mansions gradually formed in my country during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, which served as a basis for astronomical observation, there's one called Zhen. According to ancient astronomical astronomy, Zhen is located above Jingzhou. Next to Zhen is a small star called Changsha. Therefore, there's a historical theory that Changsha got its name from Changsha. For example, Zhang Wei of the Tang Dynasty wrote in his "Changsha Customs Stele": "Astronomical representation of Changsha is located next to the four Zhen stars. Above them are the celestial bodies, and below them are the prefectures and counties." The "below are the prefectures and counties" refers to the city of Changsha.

I have to say, the bronze mirrors are so exquisite that I instantly want to replace the mirrors in my home.

Orange Island

<A must-visit place on Jiangxin Island during a spree>

Juzhou is named for its abundant production of beautiful oranges. The Xiangjiang River flows gently and has a wide riverbed. Because the lower reaches are supported by the water of Dongting Lake, oases have formed, earning it the reputation of "the best island in the world."

In spring, the bright light shimmers and seagulls fly around; in autumn, the grapefruits turn yellow and the oranges turn red, and the air is filled with fragrance; in deep winter, the cold wind cuts through the ice and the river wind plays with the snow. This is the location of "Twilight Snow on the River and Sky", one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Xiaoxiang.

In the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925), Comrade Mao Zedong returned to Hunan from Guangzhou to lead the peasant movement. In the cold autumn, he revisited Orange Island and wrote "沁园春·长沙", which made Orange Island famous.

Xie Zilong Image Art Museum

<A place where internet celebrities gather and take great photos>

Xie Zilong Photography Art Museum has become a popular photography destination lately, and it's also a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities.

The Xie Zilong Image Art Museum was established to "collect Chinese image history," "promote image art culture," and provide image art services. It systematically collects early Chinese historical images, classic image albums, early image equipment, and contemporary image works.

We should keep our doors open, lights on, and let our customers see hope. What a wonderful purpose.

Xie Zilon himself is also the chairman of Laobaixing Pharmacy, so it is not difficult to see the advertisement.

<The world's largest private art museum>

On July 16, 2017, the Li Zijian Art Museum was certified by the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA) of the United Kingdom as the "world's largest individual artist art museum."

The museum's treasure is this painting of the Nanjing Massacre. This work was created at the invitation of Master Hsing Yun. There are three paintings in total, and this is the last painting on the theme of the Nanjing Massacre.

The exhibition features seventeen series and more than three hundred original works of Mr. Li Zijian’s realistic oil paintings on the theme of “humanity and love” during his artistic career at home and abroad.

It also includes the Grandmother series, which is very impressive.

Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui when they were young schoolmates.

Meixi Lake Chinese Knot Bridge

<The Sexiest Building>

The Chinese Knot Pedestrian Bridge was designed by John Vanderwater and Jiang Xiaofei of NEXT Architecture. It was completed on September 18, 2016 and was selected by CNN as one of the top ten "sexiest buildings in the world".

If you have ample time, consider visiting this museum. It takes about 40 minutes to get there by subway, or about 10 minutes on foot. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the Li Zijian Art Museum for around 20 yuan.

It's a great photo op! Despite the distance, the photos are quite good. The intertwined and winding design is inspired by the classic Western Möbius strip and the ancient Chinese folk art of the Chinese knot.

Different effects can be achieved in every shot, so it is not an exaggeration to call it the sexiest building.

Zhijian Bookstore

<The most beautiful bookstore, full of atmosphere>

"We still remember our gray childhood vividly, and we yearn for the dreams of our youth. We hope to be surrounded by kindness and friendliness, and we care for our loved ones as well as strangers. We embark on the journey with ideals in mind, and we all want to live poetically on earth."

These words from the founder of Zhijian are sincere, and the name of the bookstore is derived from "keep your heart in one place, stop in one step".

Fresh green plants are visible at the entrance, which are lively and interesting, adding a touch of liveliness to the bookstore.

No matter where you live, you still have the right to look up at the stars.

There are seats next to the bookshelves for readers to study and read, which is very thoughtful.

Peirong Bookstore

<A Utopia Hidden in a High-Rise Building>

The bookstore is named after Wang Han’s father, “Pei Rong”. Taking the name from his father is an expression of respect for his father, and it is also a gift from Wang Han to his father in his zodiac year.

I came here specifically to check in. I didn't know if the grandfather I met was Wang Han's father, but he greeted me warmly and told me to take more photos. He indicated that I could go inside. After getting permission, I embarrassedly disturbed two or three readers and took a few photos.

The view is very good. It is right next to Taiping Old Street. The bookstore has the meaning of tranquility in the hustle and bustle, and has the feeling of being in a different world.

Taiping Old Street

<Crowded food street, from beginning to end>

Taiping Street is a microcosm of "ancient Changsha". Since Changsha was a city in the Warring States Period, it has been the core area of the ancient city and has remained unchanged for more than 2,000 years.

Walking along the ancient street, in addition to being able to intuitively feel the classical visual impact brought by architectural symbols such as stone archways, granite roads, fire walls, and ancient theaters, you can also appreciate the literary and charm emanating from a kind of historical accumulation.

Small green tiles, sloping roofs, white tile ridges, fire-proof walls, and wooden doors and windows are the common features of the houses and shops in this area. It has now become a must-visit food street.

Jia Yi's former residence in Taiping Old Street is known as the source of Hunan culture. Jia Yi was only 27 years old when he served as the Taifu of the King of Changsha.

Stinky Tofu Museum

<Unheard of Interesting>

I feel that Wenheyou has such a wide range of business. It has even built a museum for stinky tofu. Of course, it is a small simulation site, and it mainly sells souvenirs, but it is also quite interesting.

IFS

<The lights are bright at night, this is the city that never sleeps>

It's great for taking photos. It's a pity that I didn't come here during the day, but there are also many people coming here at night. You can just take the outer elevator directly to the rooftop without going into the mall.

Fire Palace

<Amazing places in my favorites, fireworks life>

Changsha is a city renowned for its history and culture. During the Jingchu period, our ancestors worshipped the God of Fire. This is irrelevant and cannot be found in local chronicles. The current Huogong Palace, also known as Qianyuan Palace, was built before the fifth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1577), making it over 430 years old.

In early 1938, the local scenery section of the Guancha Daily was headlined "Fire Palace, where everything from eating, singing, and having fun is available, and fried tofu is the most famous." In 1943, Xu Bin's Changsha Chronicle compared Fire Palace to other prosperous markets such as Beijing's Tianqiao, Shanghai's Chenghuang Temple, Tianjin's Sanbuguan (No Man's Land) and Nanjing's Confucius Temple.

Super Wenheyou

<Changsha signature dish, delicious and photogenic>

Wenheyou has countless titles, including the largest lobster restaurant in Asia, the "Disney" of China's food industry, the food landmark of Changsha, the "Sima Qian" of the catering industry, the one with the longest queue of 16,000 tables in a single store, and the super new species in the catering industry.

This museum of urban life pleasantly surprised me. It is delicious and great for taking photos. Everywhere is filled with a serious attitude towards daily life and the air is filled with the air of everyday life.

When walking on Forever Street, remember to always be happy!

Pozi Street

<Food is the right way, a spicy taste of stopping and starting>

Pozi Street boasts a history of over 1,200 years, making it a veritable millennium-old street and a representative of Hunan culture. Visiting here at night feels like stepping into a foodie kingdom, where each shopfront is unique and the air is thick with the aroma of spicy food.

Jiong Dad Milk Tea is really opened by He Jiong’s father!

Changsha on the tip of the tongue

I have to say, Changsha is really delicious!

@Tea Yan Yue Se

Orchid Latte, Shengsheng Oolong, and Osmanthus Fragrance Latte are all delicious! I also want to drink them iced in the winter! Three cups a day is not too much.

The indispensable Cha Yan Yue Se, the Youlan Latte must be the best of the best, the milk and tea flavors are just right, not greasy or bitter, the first sip is amazing!

@Taste Shrimp

It’s true that “Happy Camp” says this every day, which makes me feel like celebrities go to eat flavored shrimp after recording the show!

@Stinky Tofu

There must be a stinky tofu shop next to or nearby a Cha Yan restaurant on the street. It smells so good when it’s freshly fried!

Black classic stinky tofu, freshly fried, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, topped with pickled mustard greens and chopped chili peppers, it's absolutely delicious!

@Powder Various Powder

I eat rice noodles in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. Follow the reviews and rankings or go to any random restaurant, they are all delicious.

The first meal was Liu Xiazi’s hot pot noodles. The beef offal was tasty and the noodles were smooth. It tasted super delicious. The soy milk in the set meal was also delicious.

@Mom Tea

In addition to Cha Yan Yue Se, this Mama Tea is really special. The building itself is attractive enough, and it has become a popular internet celebrity.

An entire glass house is the ordering area. When you walk in, you will see a retro TV background wall. Going upstairs is like passing through a time tunnel. Walking up the stairs to another building is the seating area. Outside the glass window is the bustling main street.

@Perilla Peach

The taste is unexpected, crispy, sour and sweet. It is very refreshing after eating spicy food.

@Stir-fried beef

Wang Yibo's commercials from Day Day Up are playing in every restaurant and have become a household name. Honestly, the stir-fried beef is indeed quite good. It's quite spicy, but it goes really well with rice. The flavor is so intoxicating! The spicier it is, the more you want to eat it.

@Xia Ji Noodle Shop

It's Suofen morning again, and business is booming. I thought it would be okay in Changsha, where few people are walking around at 10am, but from the time I arrived until I left, there was a constant stream of people coming to eat! The key is that it's really delicious, and 30,000 people who have collected it are no joke.

The delicious braised rice noodles, with chicken feet, dried tofu, beef, and a bowl full of them, sprinkled with some diced radish, are simply delicious! Everyone's comments are right, you'd be missing out if you don't try it.

@文和友

Apart from the spiciness, I don't have any other impression of it, but the environment is as retro and nostalgic as ever. During my stay, someone even borrowed a marker to leave a message on the wall, which is also a good marketing method, haha.

@Souvenir Mochi

A friend recommended it to me and said I had to try it. The purchase limit was two bags per person, so I bought one bag each of coffee and grape flavored mochi. I shared them with everyone I met. It was so delicious that I will definitely take two bags away next time!
