Taizhoucheck the details
Taizhou City, located in the central coastal area of Zhejiang Province, China, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the province. Its natural scenery is magnificent, ancient, solemn, and profoundly tranquil. Its cultural landscape is rich, profound, and uniquely splendid. Taizhou's tourism is characterized by its five distinctive features: Buddha, mountain, sea, city, and cave. It boasts the national key scenic spots of Tiantai Mountain and Changyu Dongtian, as well as the national historical and cultural city of Linhai. Taizhou is a Jiangnan "water town," with water flowing through the city. Historically, Taizhou boasted a dense network of rivers and a crisscrossing network of harbors, creating a waterside charm comparable to that of Suzhou and Hangzhou. There's a saying that "traveling through Suzhou and Hangzhou is not as good as visiting Wenzhou and Huangpu." Renowned both domestically and internationally for its Buddhist and Taoist roots, Taizhou is the birthplace of the Tiantai School of Buddhism and the Southern School of Taoism. Tiantai Mountain, with its profound cultural heritage, has nurtured a broad and profound "culture of harmony." Taizhou epitomizes Zhejiang's "seven mountains, one water, and two parts of farmland," a blessed ecological haven where mountains, sea, and water meet in harmony.

When you think of the "Great Wall," the first thing that comes to mind is the only man-made structure visible from space—the Great Wall! If I hadn't visited Taizhou, I wouldn't have known that the hollow watchtowers of the Northern Great Wall originated from the Linhai Great Wall. Serving as the model for the Ming Dynasty Great Wall in Beijing, this wall, also known as the "Jiangnan Great Wall," has been inscribed on China's Tentative List of World Cultural Heritage.

The Taizhou City Wall, which was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, has a history of more than 1,600 years. It has both defensive and flood control functions and is the best-preserved ancient city wall in the Jiangnan region.

The "Jiangnan Badaling" which was once more than 6,000 meters long now has more than 5,000 meters left. There are currently seven city gates: Chonghe Gate, Xingshang Gate, Zhenning Gate, Jingyue Gate, Fengtai Gate, Kuacang Gate and Chaotian Gate, which surround most of the old city from the Lingjiang River to Beigushan Mountain.

Located on Jiangxia Street between Xingshangmen and Jingyuemen, it was once the most important Lingjiang ancient ferry in Linhai. Goods from the north and south of the sea and timber and mountain products from the mountainous areas of western Zhejiang all converged here. It was the most prosperous trading place and transportation hub in Linhai. The stilt house where the tourist center is located is one of the most distinctive Jiangnan dwellings in old Linhai.

On weekdays, the natural and ancient atmosphere spreads along the city wall; during the cherry blossom season, the feeling of romance and beauty overflows over the entire city wall.

Xingshan Gate
There is a square stone plaque above the door, on which are written four large characters "品物咸恒" (Pinwu Xianheng) written by Song Lian, the last prefect of Taizhou in the late Qing Dynasty, which are from the "Tuan Chuan" of Kun Gua in the "Book of Changes".

Chaotianmen
The west entrance and exit of Taizhou City Wall is located at the end of Ximen Street. The city wall here is very complete and it is definitely the best place to take pictures of the entire city wall.

Wangtiantai
This is a 360-degree viewing platform with no blind spots. The "three-layer and nine-circle" Wangtiantai was built in imitation of the Yuan Dynasty building in Beijing's Temple of Heaven Park. After the peasant uprising at the end of the Yuan Dynasty captured Taizhou City, an altar was built here to worship the sky.

Range Rover Door
This is the best place to enjoy the beautiful scenery of lakes, mountains and the ancient city. It is not easy to climb up or down the 198 steps!

The city wall of Taizhou Prefecture can only be walked, so after walking more than 5 kilometers, it is basically quite tiring. Therefore, it is definitely a good experience to stroll around East Lake after getting off at Lansheng Gate!
"Donghu" is named because it is located to the east of the ancient city of Taizhou Prefecture. It is not naturally formed, but was dredged and expanded by the Taizhou County Magistrate during the Northern Song Dynasty. It can be regarded as an "artificial lake"!

The shimmering lake, dotted with a nine-curve stone bridge and pavilions, is no wonder Qing Dynasty scholar Yu Yue remarked, "Hangzhou has West Lake, Taizhou has East Lake. The beauty of East Lake is a small West Lake." Must-see attractions include the Huxin Pavilion, Rongxing Hall, and Luo Linhai Shrine.

Longxing Temple, which was first built in the first year of the Shenlong period of the Tang Dynasty (705), has a history of more than 1,300 years. It was not only the residence of Master Jianzhen before his fourth voyage to Japan, but also the place where Master Saicho, the founder of the Tendai Sect of Japan, studied Buddhism and received the Bodhisattva precepts.

The seven-story, six-sided pagoda in the temple is the only extant Yuan Dynasty pagoda in Taizhou. Because there are Buddha statues carved on the bricks and niches on each side of the pagoda, totaling 1,003, it is called the Thousand Buddha Pagoda.

Jinshan, the sacred mountain of the Three Religions, is less than 100 meters high, but it houses eight temples and four pagodas. Legend has it that Huaxuzi once practiced alchemy and Taoism on Jinshan. When he ascended to heaven, his scarf blew off and transformed into the two peaks of Jinshan.

What's an ancient city without its own historic streets? Ziyang Street in Taizhou City is undoubtedly the centerpiece! As a renowned historical and cultural street in China, this 1,080-meter-long bluestone street exudes an authentic, ancient charm.

It is quite poetic to stroll and eat in the ancient streets while seeing the three towers shining together!

Taizhou City is incredibly beautiful in spring! In this romantic season of cherry blossoms, the ancient city is filled with tranquility, a thousand years in one glance!

Unlike the vibrant blossoms of other places, the cherry blossoms in Taizhou City have a unique and ancient charm! Whether it's the cherry blossoms beside the "Jiangnan Great Wall" or in front of Longxing Temple, they can give people a sense of time travel!

Wandering through the streets and alleys bathed in cherry blossom rain, shopping in various small shops with a petty bourgeoisie and artistic style, time passed by unnoticed...

The spring breeze is blowing for ten miles, and only delicious food and beautiful scenery are not to be missed!
When visiting Taizhou, the best way to explore Ziyang Ancient Street is to eat and shop! Here are some must-try snacks and restaurants:

Egg White Lamb Tail
This authentic Linhai snack, which is listed in the "Chinese Cookbook", is named after its shape that resembles a plump lamb tail. It is oily but not greasy and sweet to the heart!
Wheat Shrimp
The most distinctive Linhai snack is a shrimp-like paste made from wheat flour, topped with Robust, bamboo shoots, pork, seafood and other ingredients. It is very delicious!
Seaweed Pancake
Seaweed pancakes, with their thin skin, rich fillings, crispy texture and rich seaweed aroma, are a very unique snack in Linhai and are also the most popular souvenirs!

Ziyang Hutong Music Restaurant
This is a must-visit restaurant for every visitor to Taizhou, bar none! Weather permitting, we recommend sitting outside in the open-air area. Besides enjoying authentic local cuisine, the best part is the variety of seafood!

It would be too boring to stay in a hotel as usual when visiting Taizhou City. You must choose a unique homestay in the ancient city to sleep there!
This time, I chose the [Sanfu Yizhai] B&B, built against the ancient city wall. Living on the ancient street, I felt like a local! This B&B is named after the street where it's located, "Sanfuji," a 328-meter-long, 4-meter-wide street that was once home to the prominent Wang family during the Ming Dynasty. It was named after Wang's father and son, all three of whom served as provincial governors. After entering the city from Xingshan Gate, turn left and walk about 100 meters to the B&B. It's in a fantastic location!

There are a total of 10 rooms in 6 room types. This time I stayed in 201 Nanshan Terrace, which is a LOFT room with a small outdoor garden.
The exterior is in the Huizhou architectural style, which matches the style of the surrounding ancient city very well; the interior is in a modern and simple European style, which complements the sense of history and fashion!

The thoughtful welcome fruits and candies are definitely comparable to those in top five-star hotels; the thoughtful disposable bath bags make the bathtub no longer just a decoration, and the best thing is the full set of top-quality APPELLES care products.

There are four pillows with various textures to choose from and the mattress is of moderate firmness. After a good night's sleep, the rich, nutritious and healthy breakfast awakened my stomach!

Taizhou Prefecture is a certain distance away from Taizhou City. The nearest high-speed rail station is not "Taizhou Station" but "Linhai Station", so the transportation is quite convenient.
Those in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai can simply take the high-speed rail. If you're outside the free shipping zone, don't worry: you can fly to any airport in Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and more! Currently, Linhai has two tourist bus routes for convenient travel, but the easiest way is to take a taxi!
