A 5-day, 4-night trip to Changbai Mountain: Finding a hidden gem at 22°C in a remote town

Preface

The average temperature in Changbai Mountain in the summer is only 22°C, and the breeze is refreshingly cool. There are very few people, making it quiet and relaxing. It is also a veritable oxygen-rich paradise, with negative oxygen ion content 150-200 times that of Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. This trip to Changbai Mountain was absolutely beyond imagination and worth every penny!

Meet Changbai Mountain

The Tianchi Lake in Changbai Mountain is magnificent and as clear as the blue sky. Wild flowers are blooming on the mountains, and there are also various wild animals and plants and virgin forests.

The Tianchi Lake in Changbai Mountain is not only mysterious, but also has a changeable climate. It is said that the lake can only be viewed from the top 60 days a year, concentrated from June to August each year. During this period, the chances of seeing the full view of the Tianchi Lake are much greater when visiting Changbai Mountain.

There are three slopes to visit in Changbai Mountain. It is difficult to visit all three slopes at once. It requires both time and luck. This time I only visited the north slope of Changbai Mountain. The north slope was developed the earliest and is the most mature. There are many scenic spots to visit, such as Luyuantan, Changbai Waterfall, hot springs, underground forests, etc., which are all worth exploring.

As soon as you arrive at the gate of the scenic area on the north slope, you can see a pond. In the pond, various koi are growing very large. The comfortable environment allows them to swim here carefree.

Tianchi Lake - mysterious and dreamy

Changbai Mountain has four slopes, east, west, south and north. The east slope is in North Korea. In China, you can only see Tianchi Lake from the north slope, west slope and south slope.

The North Slope was developed first, boasting the most scenic spots, the most mature landscape, and the heaviest daily visitor traffic. We originally planned to explore the North Slope first and then the West Slope, but due to typhoon rain and closures, we only visited the North Slope on this Changbai Mountain trip. We checked the weather beforehand, fearing we wouldn't be able to see Tianchi Lake, but fortunately, we did.

Locals say that beneath Tianchi lies a dormant volcano, whose crater formed a lake, creating the beautiful lake. The water is truly blue, tranquil, and mysterious. Suspended in the sky, with only an outlet and no inlet, the water flows endlessly, creating a sense of mystery and captivating the imagination.

Feeling the breeze blowing from Tianchi Lake, looking at the beautiful Tianchi Lake, and feeling the coolness and comfort brought to us by nature.

On the other side of Tianchi Lake are endless mountains. With the arrival of summer, every mountain is covered in lush greenery. Peaks, green fields, blue sky, and white clouds, the beautiful Changbai Mountain brings us a beautiful visual feast.

The mountains are full of blooming wild flowers. The harsh environment on the mountain limits their flowering period to only a short month, but it decorates the most beautiful summer in Changbai Mountain.

Different angles give you a different view of Changbai Mountain. Standing on the observation deck, you can clearly see the volcanic rocks left by the volcanic eruption. Standing on the top of the mountain and looking out into the distance, you can take in everything and eliminate all worries and unhappiness.

Changbai Hot Springs - Contains powerful energy

Changbai Waterfall is adjacent to the hot springs. On one side is the roar of the waterfall, and on the other side is the hot steam of the hot springs. They prove the energy contained in Changbai Mountain in different ways.

There are many hot springs everywhere in Changbai Mountain, so we can conclude that there is a huge amount of energy surging in Changbai Mountain. The hot spring water is rich in many minerals and can cure diseases. The water temperature is mostly over 60 degrees.

Below the Changbai Waterfall is a large hot spring area. After years of erosion, the minerals in the hot springs have turned the surface golden, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding colors.

The springs are surrounded by volcanic rocks, forming small pools of varying sizes. Walking on the plank road, you can see hot spring water flowing below, and the heat rising from below is very warm.

In summer, Changbai Mountain is surrounded by green trees and blue sky and white clouds, making it more vibrant.

Changbai Waterfall is located on the north side of Tianchi Lake. Coming down from Tianchi Lake, the first attraction is Changbai Waterfall. The water from Tianchi Lake flows down here, creating a drop in the water, forming a rushing waterfall. When you walk to the side, you will hear the thundering sound of the waterfall and the waves will splash high.

On the other side of the plank road, you can see many flowers and plants. In summer, they bloom in full bloom, adding colorful brilliance to Changbai Mountain.

Clusters of beautiful flowers bloom on the roadside, in the mountains, and in the shade of the trees, full of vitality.

Luyuantan - clear water deep in the mountains

Deep in the mountains lies the Green Abyss Pond, with its emerald green water and delightful scenery, inviting you to indulge in it. The Green Abyss Pond's waterfall cascades down from the mountain's boulders into the pond, creating a seamless and breathtaking beauty.

The pool water is emerald green and quiet, while the waterfall is lively and agile. The stillness and movement form a whole, just like a fairyland on earth.

The water here is very clear and still. You can see the bottom at a glance and clearly see carp swimming at the bottom of the water.

The shores are lined with birch trees, leaning over the water in all their shapes and sizes, embellishing the Green Abyss Pond and adding a touch of beauty. The sunlight filters through the mountains, reflecting on the lake and onto my face. Everything is so beautiful and peaceful.

Underground Forest - Deep in the Quiet Valley

The Valley Forest, also known as the Underground Forest, is the lowest scenic spot in Changbai Mountain. The entire forest is sunken in the valley. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can see an endless sea of forest. Walking in it is like walking into a primeval forest, cool and comfortable.

The forest is huge. Walking to the viewing platform at the bottom of the valley, you can see a deep valley below. The forest is full of greenery, and the valley below gives you a sense of mystery. The forest has a lot of negative oxygen ions, which is a natural oxygen bar that makes you feel refreshed.

It takes a long way to get down to the viewing platform at the bottom of the valley. It is very physically demanding. You must save this attraction for the last thing you visit. At that time, the phone showed that you had walked more than 20,000 steps. The air above the forest at the bottom of the valley will cleanse your whole body.

Walking on the plank road in the forest, breathing in the fresh air, the coolness will blow on your face with the breeze. Tourists coming and going, slow down their pace, take a deep breath, and the air brings us a very comfortable feeling.

There are towering trees on both sides of the plank road. Strolling among them is like walking in a huge oxygen bar.

Green trees, blue sky and white clouds, feel everything that nature brings us.

There are trees of various shapes in the forest, providing a living place for various small animals.

There is a trickle of river in the forest, flowing through the cracks in the rocks in the valley, sometimes fast and sometimes slow, making a gurgling sound.

There are all kinds of artificial bird nests hanging on the trees, and occasionally you will find that there are real birds living in them.

Cycling Erdaobaihe

I specifically researched the strategy for Erdaobaihe the night before, and finally decided that cycling through Erdaobaihe was the best way.

Our starting point was the Changbaishan Building, where we rented bikes near the building. Erdaobaihe Town is truly a cycling destination. There are no traffic lights, and every road has a bike lane and a pedestrian path, separated from the motorway, making it incredibly safe. Surrounded by parks, the town feels like a small town nestled in the forest, earning it the nickname "Forest Town."

It was still raining early in the morning and I was thinking my cycling trip would be ruined, but after I washed up and had breakfast, the rain stopped and the sky cleared up. It was truly a blessing from God.

Many parks in the town are connected together, and there are many roads connecting the parks, so cycling is the best choice. You can ride aimlessly in the town, and every place is so beautiful and comfortable.

Tips:

1. There are countless bike rental spots in the town, at the park entrance, next to the station. As long as there is a lot of traffic, there will definitely be a bike rental spot, so you can ride with confidence.

2. To rent a bike, you need to scan the QR code with Alipay to unlock it. The first 30 minutes are free, and each additional 30 minutes costs 0.5 yuan. If you ride from one park to another and return the bike, you can ride it for free for a whole day, but it is a bit more troublesome.

3. There is no fixed route for cycling here, just ride according to your own preferences.

4. You must ride to several major parks, including the Beauty Pine Garden, Beauty Pine Sky Bridge Park, Beauty Pine Sculpture Park, Chinese Merganser Park, Changbai Mountain Bicycle Park, Northeast Asia Botanical Garden, Jianshui River Flower Sea, Jianshui River Wetland Park, and many more for you to discover during your ride. Those connected together or gardens within gardens will bring you surprises.

Forest Town—Time really goes slow here

Erdaobaihe has another nickname, which is Forest Town. The whole town is tightly surrounded by forests. The pace of life in the town is so slow that you can calm down and feel everything that nature brings us. Riding in the town, you can feel the beauty of this town with your heart.

In addition to being beautiful, this place is also very user-friendly. There are many bicycle rental points in the town for your convenience. The bicycle lanes and walking paths in the town are also very distinctive. The bicycle lanes are paved with volcanic slag from Changbai Mountain, and the walking paths are paved with wooden boards or volcanic stones, which give the town a beautiful landscape.

Cycling on the small path, the bike lane is separated from the motorway by flowers and plants. I really want to praise this humane and beautiful design. There are no traffic lights or sirens, and the motor vehicles will slowly give way to pedestrians. All the humanities here really surprised and amazed us.

At every intersection, there are different roundabouts instead of traffic lights. The streets are clean and the roads are tidy. This may be the life we have always longed for.

Beauty Pine Garden—The refreshing breeze after the rain

Meirensongyuan was the first park we cycled to. It had drizzled in the early morning, and Meirensongyuan was exceptionally quiet in the early morning after the rain, allowing us to enjoy the coolness after the rain alone.

There is a large lake in Meirensong Garden, where the Chinese merganser, a first-class protected animal, swims and plays happily on the water.

The lake is calm, the sky is clear, and everything is reflected on the lake, creating a very ethereal scene. In the early morning, there are few people in Meiren Songyuan. Our first impression is quiet and cool, making us deeply feel the sense of escaping the scorching summer heat.

The cycling lanes in the town extend all the way to the park and along the riverbank. There are lanes everywhere you go. Riding along the path, you will see lush green flowers, plants and trees on one side and the trickling river on the other.

Standing on the bridge, watching the river flowing, surrounded by green trees, accompanied by blue sky and white clouds, time here passes so slowly.

The park has unique creativity, novel design, and forward-thinking. There are also sculptures with unique characteristics, each of which is a work of art.

Merganser Park—Full of Infinite Vitality

Changbai Mountain nurtures so much life and grows a variety of precious animals and plants. At the foot of Changbai Mountain, there is also a group of cute little animals living here. Here, you can see groups of Chinese mergansers playing in the park.

All the parks here are connected. Heading south from Meirensong Garden, along the river, you'll arrive at the Scaly-necked Merganser Park, home to flocks of Scaly-necked Mergansers, who live a leisurely life. They often appear in pairs, never separating, always swimming together. This is their love, and they must be romantic creatures.

In addition to the mergansers, there is also a large group of geese here. They probably stay in the water all year round, and their feathers are soft and clean.

The parks here are large but sparsely populated, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the quiet.

There is a river running through the park. You can stop your car and sit on the bank to stare blankly and listen to the sound of the river flowing.

Clusters of flowers are scattered on both sides of the road in the park, and the morning dew has not yet completely dissipated.

Jianshui River Wetland—Meet the Summer Flower Sea

There are so many parks here that you can easily wander from one to the next, or even pass through parks you don't even know their names. There are so many paths, and if you ride slowly, you won't miss any of the scenery you want to see. Besides the hiking trails, Jianshui River Park is filled with endless seas of flowers.

The park is a sea of colorful flowers, with more than 10 kinds of flowers planted, including sunflowers, summer dianthus, irises, cattails, cosmos, globe purple, butterfly weeds, zinnias, sulfur daisies, and asters. This is truly the largest sea of flowers I have ever seen.

There's a wooden boardwalk through the sea of flowers, and there's a car rental station nearby. You can return your car first and then stroll through the beautiful sea of flowers. Here, you can admire the flowers, smell their fragrance, and enjoy the unique beauty and happy time that belongs to us.

There is a swamp on one side of the park, with a plank road running through it. The large waterwheel decoration adds a lot of life to the park.

Beauty Pine Corridor Bridge - overlooking the forest town

The park's most unique feature is the glass plank road, which features a 346-meter-long skywalk and a 23.7-meter-high glass observation deck. If you're brave enough, you might want to take a walk. The plank road utilizes shock-absorbing technology, creating a slight swaying sensation that's quite thrilling. From the observation deck, you can take in the panoramic views of the town.

Looking down from above, you can clearly see that the entire town is surrounded by forests. The town's unique architectural style, coupled with the lush greenery of flowers, plants and trees, should make living here a very happy experience.

The entire covered bridge shuttles through the woods in the park. Walking on it feels like stepping on big trees, and you can touch the treetops with a casual stretch of your hand.

The view you see varies depending on the height you stand at. The higher you stand, the more beautiful the view you see will naturally become.

Small town night - enjoy the tranquility

I rode back to the hotel and when I came out after dinner, it was already dark. It gets dark early here, and there are only a few cars passing by on the road occasionally. Strolling on the way back to the hotel, it was so quiet and intoxicating.

Erdaobaihe Town at night is always so quiet, beautiful and gorgeous. Standing on the overpass and pressing the shutter, the beautiful scenery will be brought into your dreams.

Stand by the roadside, press the shutter, and record this quiet scene and slow time.

The parks along the road are decorated with colorful lights, and the starlight illuminates the entire town.

The sculptures in the park are illuminated by lights, making the artworks more vivid. Late at night, the lights in the town not only illuminate the way home, but also add to the town's unique tranquility, beauty and romance at night.

Strolling in Changbai Mountain Resort

Coming to Wanda Resort gave us an unexpected surprise. We never thought the resort was so beautiful. The trip to the resort was a lucky break, as it allowed us to see the beautiful side of the resort in summer.

The resort is very large, with restaurants of all sizes, various entertainment facilities and venues, large hotels of different prices, and beautiful scenery, which together create a beautiful resort.

Chixi - A missed surprise

In order to play on the west slope, we got up early in the morning and took a bus from Erdaobaihe to Chixi Visitor Center in the heavy rain. Due to the rain, there were very few people on the bus and the whole journey took nearly two hours. As we were about to arrive at the visitor center, the driver told us that the scenic area might be closed today due to typhoon and rain. We immediately checked the official website and found that there was indeed an announcement stating that the scenic area would be closed for one day due to the typhoon. We went to the ticket checking hall very disappointed, and it was crowded with staff who were all consulting the scenic area.

After the rain stopped, we walked to the Chixi Tourist Center. It was very big, with many hotels and restaurants. After being washed by the rain, the streets here were particularly quiet and clean.

The air after the rain is fresh and moist, and the temperature is comfortable and cool.

The visitor center has a unified architectural style. In addition to being a gathering place for visitors to the West Slope, it has everything you need for food, clothing, housing and transportation. It is also a gathering place chosen by many tourists visiting Changbai Mountain.

Since the scenic area is closed, the buses heading to the mountain gate of the scenic area are parked neatly in the parking lot.

Resort - Enter a fairy-tale world

My trip to Changbai Mountain Resort was a last-minute decision, but it was surprisingly rewarding. I took a taxi from the Chixi Visitor Center to the Wanda Resort, a 40-yuan trip that took about half an hour. Upon arriving at the resort, the sun was out, the sky cleared, and the sky was white with clouds. It felt like I had stepped into a fairytale world.

Colorful flowers and plants, lush green trees, and buildings of different styles add a touch of color to the summer.

I was intoxicated by the beautiful scenery and was reluctant to leave. It was really worth the trip.

Be sure to rent a car, stroll around the resort, and ride on the trails. You will fall in love with the fragrance of summer, which is the beauty that summer brings us.

There are various kinds of flowers planted in the resort. I came here in August, just in time for the flowering season, and was lucky enough to see their beautiful appearance.

Tips:

1. The best way to enjoy the Wanda Resort is to stay in the resort. You can enjoy the benefits brought by the hotel and the various entertainment facilities in the resort, including water parks, hot springs, sightseeing cable cars, fun bikes, mountain bikes, etc. There are also free buses to and from the Chixi Visitor Center, and you have enough time to calm down and walk through every corner of the resort.

2. The resort's roads are mostly hilly, so cycling is essential. The resort has three types of bikes: fun bikes, mountain bikes, and electric bikes that you rent by scanning a QR code. If you're staying at the resort, renting the fun bikes and mountain bikes is free. Simply present your room card at the visitor center and pay a 500 yuan deposit to activate your privileges. If you're not staying at the resort, bike rentals are 48 yuan per two hours, with a minimum two-hour rental. The electric bikes at the resort are called Douha Kuaizhu, which rent for 30 yuan per half hour, plus one yuan per minute after that. We rented one of these bikes and cycled around the resort, stopping and starting frequently. The total cost for the entire circumference was about 150 yuan.

3. When staying in a resort, you can download the resort’s app or mini-program, which will tell you what rights you enjoy, how to play, and a series of other precautions.

Summer Flower Sea—Indulge in the Boundless Fragrance

The resort is built on the mountain. There is a sightseeing route on the mountain. There are various flower fields on both sides of the route. In August, the resort is definitely the most beautiful.

We rented an electric bike and rode up the mountain road behind the resort, and found ourselves in a sea of flowers.

Looking out at the sea of flowers in the distance, they contrast brilliantly with the blue sky and white clouds.

Various kinds of butterflies are flying in the sea of flowers, sometimes fluttering their wings, sometimes touching the flowers, so beautiful and moving.

Colorful flowers, accompanied by colorful butterflies, fly past you from time to time, bringing a unique romance and warmth to summer.

Looking at the scenery on both sides of the mountain road, it is like a fairy tale world. The beautiful scenery that has only appeared in our impressions really exists, making us feel that it is really worth coming here.

We stopped and walked, strolled through the resort, and felt the summer time. We rode to the sea of Ge Sang flowers, which is our favorite flower. It was so beautiful when the Ge Sang flowers were in full bloom.

This place is decorated with a sea of various flowers. Catching the flowering season means catching the most beautiful resort. The sea of flowers and the photos are enough to shock and amaze you.

Lake Floren - Blowing the cool breeze in summer

There is a Lake Floren in the resort. The water is very clear. The lake is particularly calm after the rain, reflecting the beautiful scenery. The lakeside is a night market with delicious food at night, and the lake water is a beautiful landscape during the day.

A wooden plank road has been erected in the middle of the lake, allowing visitors to walk along it while appreciating the reflections of the lake. Sit on the shore, feeling the cool breeze blowing in from the lake, and enjoy the slower pace of summer.

On the other side of the lake are endless mountains. Looking at the endless forests on the mountains, I am filled with yearning for nature.

I am really glad that I chose the resort so that I can experience this beautiful summer time in detail. If possible, I must stay here and feel the sunshine and freshness when I open the window in the morning.

Changbai Mountain Travel Guide

About ticket purchase

Tickets:

Tickets to the Changbai Mountain Scenic Area must be purchased one day in advance on the official WeChat account, and entry into the scenic area is based on a time slot. However, there were so many people queuing at the visitor center that basically whoever got in line would get on the bus and depart, and they didn't strictly follow the time slot.

ticket:

To reach the summit of Changbai Mountain and see Tianchi Lake, you'll need to take several buses and queue several times. Due to peak season, each trip can take 20 to 30 minutes. The first bus runs from the Chibei Visitor Center to the North Mountain Gate. The second bus goes from the North Mountain Gate to the ticket office for the main peak within the scenic area, where you can buy a commercial bus ticket to the main peak. The third bus runs from the main peak boarding point to the main peak to see Tianchi Lake.

Tips:

Tickets must be purchased in advance. You may not be able to buy them at the visitor center during the peak season. The ticket price is 105 yuan for the scenic area ticket + 85 yuan for the scenic area bus + 20 yuan for the round-trip bus to the Chibei Visitor Center, a total of 210 yuan per person. When you arrive at the scenic area, you must also buy a ticket to the main peak, which is 80 yuan per person, for a total of 290 yuan. To purchase scenic area tickets, you can follow the Changbai Mountain official account

About attractions

The main attractions in the scenic area include Tianchi, Changbai Waterfall, hot springs, Xiaotianchi, Luyuantan and underground forest.

Play Order

1. If time permits, be sure to arrive at the Chibei Visitor Center as early as possible and try to be the first to enter the scenic area.

2. Once you enter the scenic area, you'll need to take the scenic bus, which will take you to any scenic spot. So, you'll have to make a choice. If the weather is good, it's a great time to see Tianchi Lake. First, head to the main peak ticket office to buy your ticket. There are two routes to the summit to see Tianchi Lake: Route A is directly opposite, and Route B is to the left. My suggestion is to take both routes, starting with Route A. This offers a wider and more panoramic view of Tianchi Lake. Route B is connected to the exit of Route A, so you can go directly to Route B and see it from a different perspective. Route B is usually closed, only opening during peak season to help divert traffic. After viewing, you can take the bus down the mountain and experience the roller coaster-like feeling.

3. After visiting Tianchi, visit the following attractions in order: Changbai Waterfall - Hot Springs - Xiaotianchi - Luyuantan - Valley Forest. Changbai Waterfall and Hot Springs are right next to each other, and you'll pass by the hot springs on the way to Changbai Waterfall, so you can enjoy both places together. After descending from Changbai Waterfall, there are two ways to get to Xiaotianchi: one is to take the scenic bus to Xiaotianchi, and the other, if you have the energy, you can walk 1.5 kilometers to Xiaotianchi. After visiting Xiaotianchi, you will find the entrance to Luyuantan directly opposite the exit of Xiaotianchi. You can go directly to Luyuantan. After visiting Luyuantan, take another bus to the Valley Forest. After visiting the Valley Forest, take the bus directly to the North Mountain Gate to descend the mountain.

What to bring

Bring some food and water; there's no place to eat on the mountain, so prepare some food in advance and have a picnic while you rest in the scenic area. Also, bring a raincoat. If the weather is bad, it can rain frequently on the mountain. Umbrellas are not allowed, which can be dangerous, so a raincoat is essential. Raincoats are available for sale, but they can be quite expensive. Also, bring a jacket; it can get a bit chilly on the mountain, so bring a jacket that suits your body temperature. You don't need to rent down jackets or cotton-padded jackets in the scenic area; it won't be that cold. The weather was so nice that day that we didn't feel the chill even in our short-sleeved shirts.

Transportation Tips

You can go to and from Changbai Mountain by train, and I recommend this method.

Outbound:

The train number is Shenyang North to Erdaobaihe, with sleeper berths. I boarded the train in the evening and arrived in Erdaobaihe early the next morning.

Return trip:

The train number is Songjianghe - Shenyang North, with sleeper berths, and it also boards in the evening and arrives early the next morning.

Changbai Mountain Transportation Guide

Depart from Erdaobaihe

To the North Slope:

You can take the bus all the way to and from the Chibei Visitor Center. We arrived at Baihe Railway Station early in the morning. The hotel owner was very enthusiastic and sent us directly to the Chibei Visitor Center. From the Visitor Center to the North Gate of the Scenic Area, you need to take a unified scenic bus. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Follow the Changbai Mountain official account and you can buy tickets and bus tickets directly there. Because it is the peak season, if you drive by yourself, you can only go to the Chibei Visitor Center and take a unified bus up the mountain. If it is the off-season, you can drive to the North Gate of the Scenic Area. The scenery from the Visitor Center to the North Gate is also quite beautiful.

To the west slope:

There are many ways to get to the west slope:

1. You can take the bus to Xishanmen or Chixi Visitor Center in the morning at the entrance of Jinshuihe Hotel in Erdaobaihe Town. The time varies with the season. When we went there, the bus departed at 7 am and returned at 4 pm. If you want to take it, you have to go early, otherwise it may be full. Tickets are sold in the hotel lobby. There are two fare levels: 20 yuan/person to Chixi Visitor Center and 40 yuan/person to Xishanmen. This is the most convenient way to get to Xishang.

2. You can charter a car, which costs 50 yuan per person for a one-way trip and 100 yuan per person for a round trip. You can search for local free travel on China-TravelNote yourself, or you can contact the hotel where you are staying to pick you up in the morning and drop you off at the hotel entrance in the evening. The price fluctuates slightly, but is basically around this price.

3. You can take a bus or train from Erdaobaihe to Songjianghe, and then take a bus or taxi to Chixi Tourist Center. This is not recommended as it wastes both time and energy.

To Changbaishan Wanda Resort:

There are currently no regular buses running between the two areas. To get from Erdaobaihe to the resort, the most convenient way is to charter a bus. A one-way fare is 50 yuan per person, and a round-trip fare is 100 yuan per person, with prices fluctuating. Alternatively, you can go from Erdaobaihe to Songjianghe, and then from there to the resort. Buses run daily between the Wanda Resort and the commercial center in Songjianghe Town, costing 4 yuan per person.

Depart from Songjiang River

To the west slope:

You can take a bus from Songjianghe Town to Chixi Visitor Center, and then take the scenic area's unified bus to Xishan Gate. This is the best way considering all factors. Of course, you can also charter a car or take a taxi from the town to Chixi Visitor Center or Xishan Gate. The fares vary.

To the North Slope:

There is no direct bus from Songjianghe Town to the Chibei Visitor Center or the North Mountain Gate, so there are only two ways to get to the North Slope:

1. Charter a car to Chibei Visitor Center. The one-way fare is 50 yuan per person, and the round-trip fare is 100 yuan per person, with fluctuations.

2. You can go to Erdaobaihe from Songjiang River first, and then take a bus or taxi from Erdaobaihe Passenger Station or Railway Station to Chibei Tourist Center.

To Wanda Resort:

The most convenient way to get to Wanda Resort is to take the round-trip bus, which runs every fifteen minutes from the Commercial City to the entrance of the Ibis Hotel in Wanda Resort. The fare is 4 yuan per person. If there are many people, you can also take a taxi. Without the meter, the cost is about 40-50 yuan per trip.

Depart from Wanda Resort

When starting from Wanda Resort, it is best to stay in a hotel inside the resort, which will be much more convenient.

To the west slope:

Wanda Resort has free shuttles to the Chixi Visitor Center, but you must stay in a hotel inside the resort. If you don't stay there, you can't take the free shuttle and can only take a taxi to the Chixi Visitor Center, which costs 40 yuan per trip.

To the North Slope:

It is said that there is a bus from the West Gate to the North Gate during the peak season, but it is not very regular, so the most convenient way to get to the North Slope is to charter a car. The one-way fare is 50 yuan/person and the round-trip fare is 100 yuan/person, with fluctuations.

To Songjiang River:

There are numerous daily bus services between the two locations, and the route is the same as the one from Songjianghe to the resort, just in reverse. 4. To Erdaobaihe: There are no regular bus services, so you can only charter a bus. The fare is the same as above: NT$50 one-way, NT$100 round-trip. You can also go to Songjianghe first and then take a train or bus to Erdaobaihe.

Accommodation Guide

Erdaobaihe

Erdaobaihe is relatively mature. During the peak tourist season, hotels are still very tight and need to be booked in advance. Moreover, during the peak season, the most family-friendly hotels or express hotels cost two or three hundred yuan. There are many such hotels in the town. Contact the hotel in advance when booking. Many of them will provide short-distance pick-up services. Most of these hotels are also located in the town center, making it very convenient to get anywhere.

If you choose a star-rated hotel, the price will be five or six hundred, or even thousands, during the peak season. For example, the Yishanyilan Hotel and the Jinshuihe Hotel have better environments and facilities and are very convenient to go anywhere.

There are also many more expensive hotels with unique features. Most of them are located at the foot of the mountain or on the mountain. They are very remote. If you like them and want to experience the feeling, you can try them. We stayed in Erdaobaihe Town for two days. We can accept the good environment and relatively high comprehensiveness. It costs about 300 yuan.

Songjiang River

Songjianghe is not as mature as Erdaobaihe, but the supporting hotels are good. The prices are basically the same as those in Erdaobaihe. There are cheaper family hotels and express hotels, more expensive star-rated hotels, and special style hotels. It depends on your preferences. When booking online, contact the hotel in advance to learn some details, read more reviews on the hotel booking app, and make the best choice.

Changbai Mountain Resort

There are more than ten hotels in the resort. During the peak season, the room rates range from five or six hundred to several thousand. Free tickets to different entertainment facilities in the resort are provided, including water parks, hot springs, cable cars, bicycles, sightseeing buses, etc., so it is worth staying there for a night. I suggest that if you have enough time, you must stay at Wanda Resort for a night, or choose to stay in the resort. Staying there will provide you with a lot of convenience for your travel.

Itinerary

Our trip lasted five days and four nights, so we brought very little luggage, just two backpacks, one for each of us, so we traveled light.

Tips:

1. It should be noted that Changbai Mountain can be very cold sometimes, so you should bring a long-sleeved jacket, but it doesn’t need to be too thick.
