The most anticipated thing about Guizhou in spring is the gentleness amidst the blooming mountain flowers. There is not only the romantic ten thousand mu Pingba cherry blossom garden, but also the hundred miles of rhododendrons that are in full bloom and spread across the ten miles of mountaintops.
Guizhou's unique acidic soil and high altitude are ideal for azaleas. Every year, starting in mid-March, a vast expanse of natural azaleas blooms in Bijie, Guizhou. This is the Guizhou Baili Azalea.
The rhododendrons here stretch for more than 50 kilometers, totaling 125.8 square kilometers. Their vast area and high density make it worthy of being called "the world's largest natural garden" and "the earth's ribbon, the azalea kingdom."
Baili Rhododendron accounts for all of the world's five subgenera of rhododendrons, including 44 rhododendron varieties such as Rhododendron tatarinowii and Rhododendron grandiflorum, so this place has the largest area and most varieties of rhododendrons in the world.
Such a natural, concentrated, large-scale, and diverse rhododendron area is rare both at home and abroad, and has high ornamental and scientific research value.
The rhododendrons in the Baili Rhododendron Scenic Area not only have a wide variety of varieties, but also have a long flowering period. At the end of March every year, rhododendrons all over the mountains bloom one after another, and can bloom until early May at the latest.
Among them, the flowering in Jinpo area will be earlier than that in Pudi, with a time difference of about five days.

Due to its lower altitude, Jinpo blooms slightly earlier than the Pudi Scenic Area, and is also one of the areas with the highest concentration of Rhododendron aviculare.
Jinpo, formerly known as Meichangdong, means from a geological point of view, where there is coal, there are rhododendrons, and where there are rhododendrons, there is coal.
The poem says: "Thousands of peaks are piled up, and black gold is hidden all over the ground; rhododendrons are like the sea, and the whole mountain is filled with strange fragrance." This is a true portrayal. The underground coal resources in the Baili Rhododendron Area are extremely rich, and the Jinpo coal mine got its name from this.
Walking into Jinpo, you enter Coal Hill, and also into Rhododendron Hill. The flowers here are particularly beautiful. Looking around, you can see winding mountains. On one side, red rhododendrons are as beautiful as the morning glow, colorful and vibrant. On the other side, white rhododendrons are like a rolling sea of clouds, a feast for the eyes.
Some mountains are covered with flowers in full bloom, and in front and behind are endless seas of rhododendrons in red and yellow. Whenever the sunset shines on them, they turn a fiery red and are called "Jinpo Ridge".
