Hiking on Lion Island, through the jungle, over the reefs, and looking at the sea

Day 1 Guangzhou → Xiantai Bridge → Lion Island → Guangzhou

07:30

Meet and sign in at Exit B of Kecun Subway Station (Line 3 & Line 8)

08:00

We set off on time. After the tour leader introduced the itinerary and emphasized the precautions, we started playing fun ice-breaking games. We laughed and chatted all the way to our destination.

11:00

Arriving at Xiantai Bridge, the team leader led everyone to do warm-up exercises and then began to hike on the country road. We had lunch at a small temple near the sea and continued on after lunch.

12:30

When you arrive at the first beach, you can take a short rest. Next, you need to cross the reef (there is a huge rock on the way that is particularly photogenic and worth checking in), and then continue forward. The reef section and the beach are cut back and forth, so step firmly and walk slowly.

4:00 PM

After passing through a small jungle and walking along a mechanized farming road, you will reach Lion Island Bay. The long coastline is great for those who arrive first to relax in the water.

5:30 PM

The front and back teams met up, waiting for the team leader's news, and returned in time. We arrived back in Guangzhou around 21:30. With full of joy, we kissed goodbye with tears and made an appointment to travel together next time.

Driving distance: 240 km, three hours one way

Hiking: Nearly 9 km hiking route, with a climb of nearly 50 meters

Note: Hiking time: about 5 hours, walking on the beach and climbing over reefs. Remember to bring gloves and wear non-slip outdoor shoes.

Q: How strenuous is hiking the Lion Island coastline?

A: This route is about 12 km long and takes 6-7 hours to hike. There are soft sandy beaches, messy reefs, and dense jungles. Tourists need to wear hiking shoes, long-sleeved clothes, and pay attention to sun protection.

Lion Island is actually just a massive reef, covering only two or three acres. Its shape resembles a lion lying prone on the seashore. Why is it called a male lion and not a lioness? The reef's entire body is barren, while the lion's head is lush with vegetation, mostly plants like Masson pine, which resemble the lion's mane, adding to its vividness. The coastline of Lion Island is beautiful and breathtaking, with a coastline, a large beach, and a short stretch through the mountains and forests. Because this route is rarely traveled, you'll encounter a wealth of creatures and beautiful shells along the way. Huizhou's exceptionally beautiful coastline stretches from Xiaogui in Daya Bay in the west, passing through Xiaoying Mountain, Aotou Jinmentang Sand Field, Shell Petrochemical Zone, Xiayong, China Resources Trail Bay, Country Garden's Ten-Mile Silver Beach, Yapo Cape, Renshan, Xunliao Bay, Shizi Island, Shuangyue Bay, and Huangbu Town in Yanzhou Bay. This hike, located on the Huidong Peninsula, begins at the Pinghai Power Plant in Xunliao Bay and ends at Shizi Island in Shuangyue Bay, covering a total distance of 12 kilometers.
