Day 2 Xi'an → Hukou Waterfall in Shaanxi → Stay in Yan'an

All day

Hukou Waterfall in Shaanxi

After breakfast, we'll depart from Xi'an, enjoying the beauty of Xi'an along the way, and head to Hukou Waterfall, the waterfall that separates Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces. We'll enter from the Shaanxi side. No matter how many times you've seen the Yellow River, you'll still be amazed by the sheer spectacle of Hukou Waterfall!

Get up close to Hukou Waterfall and feel the mist hitting your face; sing along to the Yellow River Cantata and feel the passion surging in your heart; or wear Shaanxi costumes and take photos with the Yellow River.

The "Peach Blossom Flood" from April to May and the "Hukou Autumn Wind" from September to November are the seasons with the highest water volume. Here, the Yellow River, once 300 to 400 meters wide, suddenly narrows to 30 to 40 meters, creating a turbulent, roaring tide. Visitors will deeply feel the awe of the Yellow River's heavenly waters. On a good day, the mist stirred up by the water creates a rainbow in the sunlight, which hangs over the waterfall. This is even better luck!

After leaving Hukou Waterfall, head to Yan'an and check into your hotel. In the evening, you can explore the Erdao Street Night Market to discover local delicacies like potato chips, stewed lamb trotters, mixed noodles, and barbecued meat with pickled garlic vinegar. Alternatively, head to Pagoda Hill to see the nighttime light show.

Driving time: Xi'an to Hukou Waterfall is about 330 kilometers and 5 hours; Hukou Waterfall to Yan'an is about 190 kilometers and 3 hours

Note: Special reminder: Hukou Waterfall may be closed due to freezing in winter. At that time, the tour will be adjusted to other attractions such as the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor. Thank you for your understanding!

Day 3 Yan'an → Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall → Wave Valley

All day

Yan'an Revolution Memorial Hall

After breakfast, we'll proceed to the Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall, where we'll have a free tour. You'll deeply appreciate the enduring spirit of Yan'an. As a renowned revolutionary shrine, Yan'an, Shaanxi, has naturally become a beloved destination. The museum's collection of over 35,000 artifacts and 5,500 precious historical photos evokes memories of that revolutionary era. The Party Central Committee, Mao Zedong, and other veteran proletarian revolutionaries lived and fought in Yan'an and northern Shaanxi for thirteen years, leading the Chinese people to victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation.

【Wave Valley】

The Wave Valley Scenic Area, located in Longzhou Town, Jingbian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, features Danxia landforms primarily formed during the Cretaceous period, 96 million years ago. The area boasts the "Earth's Core Danxia" below the horizon, the "Flame Danxia" above, and the "Water Danxia" nestled against the lake. The diverse Danxia landscapes, including linear valleys, alley valleys, and red cliffs, are like the rings of time, the fingerprints of the earth, recording the imprints of eons of wind and frost washing over the sand dunes. In spring, admire peach blossoms and yellow willows against the Danxia; in summer, admire the cool breeze and clear water; in autumn, witness the morning mist curling through the yellow reeds; and in winter, admire the glaciers and snow reflecting the Danxia. The scenery offers a unique beauty each season, leaving you marveling at the wonders of nature, like walking on Mars! This area is perfect for drone photography, allowing you to capture the curves and lines of the landscape in detail. Try shooting from the side or backlight, as the contrast between light and dark creates a captivating and unique pattern, ensuring stunning photos!

Special Experience for Tourists: Experience the folk customs of Northern Shaanxi with the guidance of local ladies, including paper cutting and making flower-shaped steamed buns.

Stay at the Wave Valley Farmhouse Hotel at night and have a good sleep~

Driving distance: Yan'an (about 150 kilometers, 2.5 hours) Wave Valley

Notes: 1. The Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall itself does not include a guided tour. For groups of 10 or more, a guide will be provided.
2. Parts of Wave Valley are still underdeveloped, so we will arrange for an in-depth tour of the main scenic area (which is available for a fee). The area is primarily a plank road with some uphill steps. The tour lasts approximately 4 hours. Please wear comfortable shoes and wear sun protection in the summer. The glass plank road is not included in the tour fee; any additional expenses are at your own expense.
3. Special Note: During the Dragon Boat Festival, we will arrange for everyone to make and eat zongzi together in Wave Valley.
4. Special Note: During the Spring Festival, for a better accommodation and dining environment, we will adjust the accommodation to Jingbian County. Thank you for your understanding!

Day 4 Wave Valley → Yucha Grand Canyon → Xi'an Xianyang Airport → Xi'an North Railway Station

All day

Yucha Grand Canyon

After breakfast, we set off for another wonder of the Loess Plateau, the Yucha Grand Canyon, known as the "Antelope Valley of China." The canyon is majestic and breathtaking, with winding paths of varying widths, ranging from a dozen meters wide at its widest point to barely wide enough for a person to pass sideways. The traces of time are seamlessly carved into the cliffs.

Take a scenic bus ride through the Yucha Grand Canyon, where sunlight slants down from the top to the bottom, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Recently discovered by geologists, the Yucha Grand Canyon, remarkably similar to the Antelope Canyon in the United States, remains unexplored. We'll stroll through it, experiencing a close encounter with nature and exploring the mysteries of time's passage.

In due time, we returned to Xi'an.

We are expected to arrive at Xianyang Airport around 20:00. Tourists are advised to book flights after 22:00 to avoid delays.

The tour is expected to arrive at Xi'an North Station at 20:30 and disband. Tourists are advised to book flights and trains after 21:30 to avoid delays.

Driving distance: Wave Valley (approximately 220km, 3.5h); Yucha Grand Canyon (approximately 300km, 4.5h); Xi'an Xianyang Airport (approximately 30km, 40min); Xi'an North Railway Station

Notes: 1. The canyon has different optimal photography times from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. The best time to photograph is when light penetrates through cracks in the canyon. The canyon is a non-renewable geological resource, so please be courteous and protect the geological heritage. The temperature difference between inside and outside the canyon is significant, so please dress warmly. The trails can be slippery on rainy days, so please be mindful of your steps. Please contact staff immediately if you need assistance.
2. The scenic area is divided into several canyons, including Mudangou, Huashugou, and Longbagou. The specific itinerary will depend on the area's availability on the day. Due to weather and rainfall, the inner canyons may be temporarily closed, so we do not specify specific routes. Please be prepared to take this into account.
3. In the event of recent heavy rainfall, please bring your own rain boots, which cost approximately 15-20 yuan per person. 4. In the event of rain in the preceding days or moderate, heavy, or torrential rain on the day of the tour, the canyons will not be accessible and the order of the attractions will be adjusted. Thank you for your understanding.
4. If your flight does not coincide with the airport/station drop-off time or you have other itineraries, we will disband the group at Xi'an North Railway Station and will not arrange separate airport/station drop-off services. Thank you for your understanding.
5. Important Notice!!! During holidays such as May Day and National Day, there may be traffic congestion during peak return trips. To avoid delays, please book a flight or high-speed train later than the one noted on this page. Thank you for your understanding.

Q: How should I dress for a trip to Qin and Jin in summer and autumn?
A: Shaanxi is very cool in summer and autumn; the nights in northern Shaanxi are quite low, so you'll need a thicker coat and be careful not to rush to cool down. Choosing high-contrast colors like white, blue, and red will produce better photographic results.

Q: Is it hot to travel during the summer? What kind of clothes should I wear?

A: Basically, it is around 15-35 degrees. The temperature difference between morning and evening is large. The ultraviolet rays in northern Shaanxi are strong in summer, and the overall temperature is not high. Sun-proof clothes, hats, short sleeves, and thin trousers are mainly used. Bright red skirts are acceptable. A thicker coat is a must in autumn (if it rains), comfortable sports shoes, etc. An umbrella is also a must.

Q: Where can I find specific weather information?

A: You can check the weather in Hukou, Jingbian, Ganquan, Yan'an, Xi'an and other places.

Q: Is this route difficult? How much walking is required? Do I need to bring trekking poles?

A: This route is not difficult overall and is a great place for a relaxing and in-depth tour. The Wave Valley walk takes a bit longer, about 4 hours for 5 km. The other attractions are normal. You can bring trekking poles if you have any. Those with weak knees or the elderly can wait here or visit nearby .

Q: What are the accommodation conditions like for this route?

A: For overall accommodation, please refer to the hotel packaging picture on the page. Wave Valley is located in a remote area with limited local conditions. It is mainly composed of farmhouse inns. The accommodation environment is average and there may be unstable hot water. Please keep a normal attitude. Thank you for your understanding.

Q: When will the activity group be created? When will the tour guide contact me?

Q: Where is the Xi'an Collection Hotel located? How can I get there conveniently from the airport, high-speed rail station, or train station?

A: Xi'an Collection Hotel is located near the Bell and Drum Tower in the center of Xi'an. From the airport or high-speed rail station, we recommend taking the airport shuttle bus to Bell Tower Station or taking Metro Line 14 to Xi'an North Railway Station. Then, take Line 1, 2, or 4 depending on the hotel's location.

Q: If I want to visit Xi'an a few days earlier or later, can we arrange to stay in the same meeting hotel?

A: You can search and place an order for "Xi'an Hotel Booking" in the mini program or APP, and note that you are participating in XX time and XX route. The customer service will arrange for you to stay at the same meeting hotel.

Hukou Waterfall:

This is the only yellow waterfall on the Yellow River and the second largest in China, renowned both domestically and internationally for its majestic power. Flanked by mountains, the riverbed has carved a massive gully 30 meters wide and 50 meters deep into the rocky terrain. The mighty Yellow River flows through this gully, cascading down in a ditch. During the summer flood season, the waterfall reaches over 100 meters, creating a truly spectacular sight. In winter, the waterfall freezes into a massive icefall, and the platforms and cliffs on either side of the river channel are covered in crystal-clear icicles of varying lengths, creating a rare and glittering wonder of ice and snow.

Wave Valley:

On the northern Shaanxi Plateau lies a virgin, undiscovered scenic spot, comparable to the Wave Valley of the American West. This kilometer-long Danxia landform, known locally as the "Red Sand Hill," stretches for several kilometers. After 150 million years of wind and sand, the underground rock has formed isolated peaks and steep, unusually shaped rocks. The various Danxia peaks, developed along vertical joints within the thick layers of red sand and conglomerate, create a breathtaking and captivating Danxia landscape. The red sand and rocks, set against the backdrop of the Loess Plateau, appear richly colored and breathtakingly beautiful.

Yucha Grand Canyon:

Millions of years ago, a powerful earthquake in northern Shaanxi split a loess mountain, creating a massive fissure. Centuries of rain eroded the area, slowly forming the canyon we see today: Ganquan Canyon, remarkably similar to the Grand Antelope Canyon in the United States. The dappled light and shadows at noon, with their striking lines, have captivated countless photographers, leaving them mesmerized.
