Night Tour of Houhai Lake | Imperial Palaces and Urban Life in Beicheng Water Village

Day 1 Beihai Park → Lotus Market → Houhai Hutong → Yandaixie Street

3:45 PM

The check-in time between April 1st and October 15th is 3:45 PM, and this time can be postponed. The crosstalk performance time remains unchanged.

4:00 PM

Meet at Exit B of Beihai North Station on Metro Line 6. Look for the yellow "China-TravelNote" flag to find your group. After signing in, follow your group leader and enjoy an afternoon in Houhai.

4:00 PM "Let us row our oars, our boats push through the waves" perfectly describes the renowned imperial garden, Beihai Park. The beautiful White Pagoda sits atop Qionghua Island, its double-decker corridors stretching out its curves, inviting the thought of the Guanghan Palace on Qionghua Island. Did a beauty like Chang'e truly reside there? We'll explore Beihai's Iron Screen Wall, searching for the legendary gold, silver, copper, iron, and tin; experience the simple and leisurely elegance of ancient architecture before the Ming Dynasty Daci Zhenru Hall; and engage in a dialogue across time and space with the centuries-old glazed Nine Dragon Wall. The beautiful Taiye Pond, like a giant mirror, offers a tranquil haven for the wild ducks and mandarin ducks of this imperial garden.

4:30 PM

4:30 PM We'll pass through the bustling Lotus Market and arrive at the hutongs of Shichahai. Your guide will share the profound wisdom within these small alleys. Throughout history, these areas have been home to royalty and nobles. While they retain their former prosperity, they are no longer home to grand residences, but rather a hub for Beijing's cuisine and shops.

5:00 PM

At 5:00 PM, walk through Yandaixie Street and stroll along Houhai Lake, enjoying this sleepless, artistic inner city. It's a vibrant gathering place for young people, musicians pursuing their dreams, and curious tourists seeking the unknown. At the east entrance of Yandaixie Street, near the Bell and Drum Tower Square at the northern end of Beijing's Central Axis, gaze at the majestic Bell and Drum Tower, observe the bustling city life, and hear fascinating stories about Beijing's Central Axis, its ancient city, and time.

6:30 PM

6:30 PM It's dinner time. A bowl of zhajiangmian (fried bean paste noodles) with its rich, traditional Beijing flavors melts away all the fatigue of the day. (In Zhuzhong Hutong, next to the Drum Tower, you'll find another traditional Beijing snack: "Dalan Huoshao." If you'd like to try it, you can purchase a set meal of Huoshao and corn porridge.)

7:30 PM

7:30 PM What's a visit to the Drum Tower without listening to a crosstalk performance? We arrived at Beijing's renowned Guangming Pavilion Theater, where we enjoyed a comfortable, air-conditioned performance of crosstalk, light snacks, and refreshments. Two hours later, please be sure to take your teeth home with you.

Note: If the crosstalk package is included, the ticket price is usually 100 yuan. If you need front row tickets, you can contact customer service and make a note, and then change the price and pay. The first row tickets are 180 yuan.

Note: The crosstalk show starts at 19:30. In winter, it gets dark early, so there is more free time. In summer, it gets dark longer, so there is less free time. If you are having a meal, please pay attention to the time.

Beihai Park is located in the heart of Beijing, west of Jingshan Mountain in the city center and northwest of the Forbidden City. Together with Zhonghai and Nanhai, it is known as the Three Seas. It is an ancient Chinese imperial garden.

Shichahai is a historical and cultural tourist attraction and a Beijing historical and cultural conservation area. Located in Xicheng District, the city's central urban area, it borders Beijing's central axis. With a water area of 336,000 square meters and connected to the waters of Zhongnanhai, it is an open scenic area with extensive waterfront space in Beijing's inner city.
