World Heritage in Beijing | Peking Autumn Charm

Day 1 Various locations - Beijing★Beijing Assembly Day

All day

The first day is a full day of gathering in Beijing. Tourists from all over the world will meet at designated hotels in Beijing according to their own schedule. After checking in, please submit your "China-TravelNote + Name" form at the hotel front desk. You will then have free time at your own leisure. Please exercise due caution during this free time. When most people think of the Imperial Capital, their first impression is of the palaces of ancient emperors and generals, with their red walls, yellow tiles, painted beams, and carved pillars. It's a fusion of courtyard houses and high-rise buildings, and authentic Beijing snacks like douzhi (soy bean juice), sausage, fried tripe, fried liver, and ma xiao (small snacks). As the heart of China, this seemingly small city on the map not only carries thousands of years of history and culture, but also embodies a vibrant tapestry of modern art. In the Imperial Capital, let's experience the charm of old Beijing's hutongs, where "a pipe illuminates the setting sun"; explore the historical ups and downs of "Prince Gong's Mansion, half the history of the Qing Dynasty"; experience the vibrant artistic atmosphere of 798, a vibrant cultural exchange; and explore the decay of empires and the cultural divides beneath the ruins...

Recommended for tourists with ample time (16:00-20:00) to enjoy a panoramic view of Zhongnanhai, take a rowboat ride on the shores of Shichahai, enjoy afternoon tea, stroll through Houhai Bar Street, and listen to authentic crosstalk.

Note: In Beijing, you can download the "Easy Pass" app and use the QR code to take the subway, which is convenient and affordable. For more travel tips in Beijing, you can add WeChat youxiakebeijingzhan (China-TravelNote Beijing Station spelling) and join the group with the code "Beijing Fun"

Construction began in 1505, the 18th year of the Hongzhi reign of the Ming Dynasty, and took over 80 years to complete. It's the best-preserved and most robust section of the Ming Great Wall. Badaling, situated at the strategic point of Guangou and the northern entrance to Juyongguan, has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times, earning the saying, "The most dangerous part of Juyongguan lies not in the pass but in Badaling." As the core of the ancient defense system, Badaling witnessed numerous significant historical events, including Qi Jiguang's defense of Jizhen and the Battle of Nankou during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Noon: Enjoy a traditional northern iron pot stew at a farmhouse in the suburbs of Beijing. Local river fish and garfish, paired with tofu, vermicelli noodles, and a variety of vegetables, are simmered in a rich broth and are a delicious companion to rice. Day 5 Yuanmingyuan → Summer Palace → Beijing

All day

Morning: 8:00-11:00 After breakfast, we board a bus for a tour of the Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan). Once a renowned imperial summer palace, it was once the Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens. Today, devastated by the British, French, and Eight-Nation Alliance, the Old Summer Palace remains a ruin. Yet, a century later, it retains a surprising tranquility, like a weathered old man, indifferent to time. Here, we receive a patriotic education, ensuring we will never forget this profound history. Early in the morning, with few visitors, the Old Summer Palace is exceptionally tranquil and beautiful.

From 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, we will then proceed to the final UNESCO World Heritage site, the Summer Palace. The Summer Palace is China's largest and most well-preserved imperial garden, one of China's Four Great Gardens (the others being the Chengde Mountain Resort, Suzhou's Humble Administrator's Garden, and Suzhou's Lingering Garden). It is also a well-preserved imperial palace and garden, known as a "Royal Garden Museum." It boasts over 3,000 pavilions, terraces, towers, pavilions, corridors, and terraces, along with over 1,600 ancient and valuable trees. Among its landmarks are the Pavilion of Buddhist Incense, the Long Corridor, the Marble Boat, Suzhou Street, the Seventeen-Arch Bridge, the Garden of Harmonious Fun, and the Grand Theater, all of which have become household names.

Driving distance: 50km, walking distance: about 1.8w steps

Q: Do I need to change hotels during my trip to Beijing?

A: Normally, we stay in the same hotel for five days and four nights, saving you the inconvenience of packing your luggage every day.

Q: Does our itinerary not include meals?

A: Because tourists come from all corners of the world, it's difficult to cater to everyone's tastes. Except for the Great Wall tour days, we don't arrange lunch, but we will recommend restaurants and provide ample time for lunch.

Q: When do the leaves turn red?

A: The red leaves appear when abscisic acid in the leaves breaks down chlorophyll, leading to the coloration of lycopene and anthocyanins. This coloration typically occurs from late September to October, influenced by temperature and species. The specific coloration depends on the temperature of the year. We schedule tours based on our experience, but there's a chance the leaves may not fully display their color. We will adjust our tour dates promptly to ensure everyone enjoys the charm of Beijing's autumn.
