Wolong boasts unique natural conditions and rich biodiversity. Located at the rapid transition zone between the Chengdu Plain and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it covers an area of 200,000 hectares, with an altitude ranging from 1,100 to 6,250 meters. Spanning six vertical climatic zones, it boasts a unique landscape characterized by "four seasons within one mountain and varying weather within ten miles." It is a biodiversity hotspot in the southwestern mountains and is known as a "precious broad-spectrum gene bank" and a "natural zoo and botanical garden." It is home to approximately 450 species of higher animals, 1,700 species of insects, and nearly 4,000 species of plants, including 81 rare and endangered species, such as the giant panda, snow leopard, green-tailed pheasant, and Davidia involucrata. With a complete giant panda habitat, Wolong accounts for nearly one-ninth of the wild giant panda population in Sichuan. Giant panda research originated here, with scientists from both China and abroad, earning it the nickname "Panda Kingdom."
