The Rainbow Ancient Trail, one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Heshan, was built during the Qing Dynasty and is part of the ancient post roads of Nanyue. The air here is fresh and full of wild charm. According to the Heshan County Chronicles, after the ancient trail was completed, Huang Dapeng climbed to the top of the mountain and gazed out over lush trees, grotesque rocks, birdsong, and the fragrance of flowers. The natural sounds filled his ears, bringing a sense of peace and joy. He also saw the ancient trail, "winding thousands of feet high, like a long rainbow stretching to Shuangqiao." This reminded him of Li Bai's poem, "Two waters embrace a bright mirror, twin bridges cast a rainbow," meaning that the trail was like a rainbow stretching from Hecheng across Shuangqiaodu. He therefore named the surrounding peaks "Rainbow" and personally inscribed the three characters "Rainbow Ridge" on a stone midway along the ancient trail, writing "Record of Rainbow Ridge." From this, the trail became known as the Rainbow Ancient Trail.
