Our route followed the same 22km route as the Maoshan Off-Road Race, with an ascent/descent of 816m/816m, for a total of around 1,200m. Maoshan is located in Jurong City. Its three peaks, the Great Mao Peak, the Second Mao Peak, and the Third Mao Peak, stand in order from south to north. The Great Mao Peak stands at an altitude of 372.5 meters. Maoshan, the birthplace of the Shangqing School of Taoism, was originally named Juqu Mountain. It was named after the three brothers of the Mao family in Shaanxi Province, Mao Ying, Mao Gu, and Mao Zhong, who practiced there during the Western Han Dynasty. Ge Hong of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and Tao Hongjing of the Southern Dynasty also practiced there. Taoist temples abound on the mountain. While ancient, they have been ravaged by wars, and most of what is visible today are modern reconstructions. Among them, the Jiuxiao Wanfu Palace and the Yuanfu Wanning Palace are particularly famous, collectively known as the "Maoshan Taoist Temples."
