Today we came to Thingvellir National Park (Þingvellir National Park), one of the famous attractions in Iceland's Golden Circle. It is really beautiful here. You can see the Icelandic Conference Site, the Law Stone (Lögberg), the junction of the plates, and the Öxarárfoss waterfall. Please make sure to come here if you have time!
It is more than 40 kilometers away from the capital of Iceland and is one of the three major national parks in Iceland. It was the meeting place of the Icelandic Parliament (Alþingi) from 930 to 1798, which is one of the earliest parliaments in the world.
No tickets are required, but remember to pay the parking fee!
There are also free toilets available, so remember to go to the toilet before leaving (after all, driving distances in Iceland are very long)
We parked at P1 this time, although our main purpose was to see the Öxarárfoss waterfall (P2 parking lot), isn’t it too far?
On the way to the waterfall, you will pass the Legal Stone (P5 parking lot) and the Drowning Pool. There is also a Silfra snorkeling area near the P5 parking lot. This snorkeling area is mainly for seeing the closest cracks between the European and American plates with your own eyes. You can touch the two plates with your hands open.
The weather was too cold this time and I didn't have the courage to go in the water. If anyone has experienced this, please share the photos with me.
We arrived at the national park at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, so it was a pity that we didn't have enough time to complete the whole tour.
