A visit to Busan's most famous culture village, Gamcheon Culture Village, is a must!
Whether it's a scorching summer or a chilly winter, Gamcheon Culture Village is a must-do on your Busan itinerary!
Take a minibus from the subway station and wind your way up the mountain. The scenery outside the window gradually transforms from a grayish-white cityscape into vibrant blocks of color. The moment the bus stops, a mountain of colorful houses comes into view, layered one on top of the other, like a living painting unfolding.
🎨 Colorful Streets and Surprises Around the Corner
Gamcheon-dong was originally a post-war refugee settlement, but artists transformed it into the culture village it is today. Strolling through the alleys, you'll find surprises around every corner—painted paintings on the walls, cat decorations along the staircases, and trees covered with wish cards.
Not far from the iconic Little Prince landmark, the "Stairway to the Stars" is a great photo spot!
📸 Most Popular Photo Spot: The Little Prince and the Fox
One thing you absolutely can't miss while visiting this area is the "Little Prince and the Fox Statue"!
The line was quite long; I waited about 30 minutes to an hour. If you're pressed for time, I recommend walking down the stairs next to it to take a photo directly with the Little Prince, or standing nearby to find an angle and snap a few quick shots, capturing moments without anyone in sight!
After taking your photos, stand on the nearby viewing platform and overlook the entire village. The breeze gently blows, and the colorful rooftops shimmer in the sun—it's an indescribably romantic scene.
☕ Walk and See Slowly
When you're tired of walking, you can find a small cafe to sit down. There are many restaurants and snack bars along the way, so just choose what you like!
I found a cafe to rest for a while. Although not many people were inside, the window seats were all taken, so I had to choose a seat inside. That window view is truly popular!
Over a latte and a plate of dessert, time seems to slow down ☕️
📒 If you have a Visit Busan Pass,
Be sure to use it at participating shops in the Culture Village!
There's a photo booth where you can get a free photo booklet. It's incredibly popular, with average lines of 30 minutes to an hour. If you want to avoid the crowds, arrive early – it gets busier as you get closer to noon!
🌇 Summary: Visiting in the morning or afternoon is possible.
If this is your first stop on your day, I recommend combining it with the nearby Gukje Market and Bupyeong Canned Food Market. You don't need to get off at Toseong Subway Station on the way down the mountain; take the bus a few stops further and you'll arrive directly at the Gukje Market stop!
If you visit in the afternoon, you might find it crowded, but the sunlight will be softer, making for the best photos. After your visit, you can even walk down the hillside to enjoy the night view.
