Distance: About 1 km
Time required: Approximately 1.5 hours
Starting point and retreat point: in front of St. Francis English Primary School
Supply point: Shek Kip Mei Street
Historical reasons: The Sham Shui Po Water Reservoir in front of Bishop Hill was demolished in 2020. After protests from local residents and voices from conservation and construction groups, the authorities stopped the project and carried out conservation work. The Antiquities and Monuments Office later listed the service reservoir as a Grade 1 historic building. The Water Supplies Department later set up physical guided tours and self-guided tours, which required quick and convenient registration by presenting the QR Code used for reservation.
Our group of more than 20 people turned left in front of the primary school onto Berwick Street, and walked up the stairs on the right next to Shek Kip Mei Health Center for 10-15 minutes to reach our destination. The water service reservoir was built in the style of Roman civil engineering, which makes it full of beauty. It has concrete ceilings, ventilation shafts, 12-inch diameter water outlet pipes and stilling wells, with more than a hundred granite columns, including exposed vaults and arches. All of them are of great preservation value and are also first-class for checking in.
