2-Day Itinerary to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

📍 Base: Tawang Town (altitude ~10,000 ft)


🗓️ Day 1 – Monasteries, Culture & Local Sights
Morning:
Start your day early with a visit to the Tawang Monastery, the largest in India and second-largest in the world.
Walk through the monastery complex, visit the prayer hall, and enjoy panoramic views of the valley.
Stop by the Buddha Park, featuring a tall statue of Lord Buddha overlooking Tawang town.
Afternoon:
Visit the Tawang War Memorial, dedicated to Indian soldiers who fought in the 1962 Indo-China war.
Have lunch at a local café — try momos, thukpa, or butter tea.
Evening:
Stroll through Old Market and Nechipu Market for local souvenirs and woollens.
End the day with dinner and a warm bonfire at your hotel or homestay.
🗓️ Day 2 – Lakes, Scenic Views & Border Drive
Morning:
Drive towards Madhuri Lake (Sangetsar Lake) — a stunning glacial lake named after actress Madhuri Dixit (from the movie Koyla).
En route, stop at PT Tso Lake (Pankang Teng Tso), surrounded by snow in winter and wildflowers in summer.
Enjoy the breathtaking mountain views and army-run cafés serving tea and Maggi.
Afternoon:
If time permits and the route is open, continue towards Bum La Pass (Indo-China border).
Note: You’ll need a special permit from the DC Office and the Indian Army to visit Bum La.
Return to Tawang by evening.
Evening:
Relax with a local meal and reflect on the serene landscapes before departure.

Altitude: Take it slow and stay hydrated — Tawang is at a high altitude.
Permits: Obtain the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Arunachal Pradesh and Bum La permit in advance.
Best time to visit: March–May and September–November for clear skies and pleasant weather.
