Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon or the Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory is located
off the city island in the southeastern area of Ayutthaya in present Phai Ling Sub-district.
In the past it bears other names as Wat Pa Kaeo, Wat Chao Phraya Thai and Wat Yai
Chaiya Mongkhon.
This temple is a famous tourist attraction of Ayutthaya. Not only does this temple have spectacular historical constructions, especially the biggest pagoda in the province, but it also has monks residing inside.
Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon is open daily from 8am-5pm. Entry for non-Thais is 20 Baht (free for Thai people). In addition to being an important historical site, this is still an active temple and visitors are asked to dress politely and act respectfully.
